Thanks for all your help these last few months. My daughter was losing weight fast and very thirsty. She was peeing her bed alot lately. At 6 yrs old it was somewhat confusing. Thought maybe it was a funk and also a growth spurt. I instantly thought maybe it's diabetes as my sister's son was diagnosed with diabetes at only 18 months old and almost died. We took her to her doctor and found out she had high ketones. Emergency room confirmed she had type one diabetes. It has been a rough road as we found her in the middle of the night probably around 20mg/dl and was unconscious. things are much more normal after watching your videos and changing our diets and just wanted to say thanks and wish the best.
So glad you found your daughter when you did and also that your nephew was saved. Those were scary instances. I was in a coma too when I was diagnosed at 9 years. I know it must have been difficult for my parents too.
That is how I was diagnosed back in 1976... I was ill.. parents thought it was the flu, and fed me flat pop (with sugar! no died stuff just yet, but to settle the tummy from tossing my cookies), and then I started to hallucinate, so they took me to the hospital in the middle of the night. Hello coma! I had the highest blood sugar in Canada to survive. (at that time) Now.. try to tell me that I could no longer have my grandparents freshly tapped maple syrup *ever again*! Yup, things have changed, so thankfully your daughter has access to much more advanced technology to help maintain a healthy and happy life. I had to test my urine to guess what my blood sugar was. lol It will soon become second nature to her, and make sure you can get her around others going through the same thing. I ended up going to a T1D camp and that helped quite a bit. Cheers!
I was also diagnosed at 6yr. It has been challenging as I am very brittle, and there was nothing modern when I got it. It is a challenging disease, and I am sorry your precious girl has it. It is encouraging though that we have so many wonderful inventions now to help with it. Don't hesitate to get her an insulin pump if she needs it. There is no truth to the rumors about pumps helping you to cheat! It was probably started by a nondiabetic. It simply makes glucose control better and easier. I wish you and your daughter the best of health! Angie Hatt
I have been using Dexcom GCM for a few years now, starting with the G4 and up to the G7. Thank you very much for your very educational, and easy to follow videos. Here is one more secret. If you are a cyclist and use a Garmin bike computer you can get your G7 readings to display on your bike computer’s screen. This is a potentially lifesaving feature. No more fear of going low and “bonking” during a ride. Thank you for your videos, and thank you Dexcom and Garmin!
For anyone having adhesive issues I use Skin Tac Wipes and haven't had any issues with them. I ordered them from Amazon and are relatively inexpensive for a box of 100.
Thank you so much for your video. I just got my Dexcom G7 today. And, needless to say, I was overwhelmed by all of it. However, you helped clear up a lot of my confusion! Thank you!
I am type 2. Would love a 15 day receiver. I have been running around trying to place my receiver without luck until this video. My primary doctor who prescribed it and his staff refused to help me and the machine was delivered by UPS. I am on foot and have to take 4 buses just to get to my primary doc. and back. Thank you from the bottom of my heart❤
TacAway (in the US, I don't know about overseas) - works great for me as a skin prep before putting on an infusion set or Sensor. Just wipe it on your skin, let it dry (drys really fast) and the adhesive sticks great. Way better than alcohol wipes. I only learned this by accident, but now I do it all the time.
When I have had problems with my Dexcm 6 or 7, I call Dexcom and they replace it for free! I love your videos. Thank you! I have had type 1for55yrs. I have learned so much about it. It is great to see others who understand. Thanks again!
competition 😂 When I contacted Dexcom for problems before, they gave me a run around after they found out I was in Canada. They were the only CGM in town. Now, their help support goes above and beyond (follow-up emails or calls, shipped me a free replacement sensor (no s&h fees) last month .... etc) because libre 3 is available.
Hello, a very good video. I live in Germany, so it may be that the facts here are a little different than in other countries. Here, the statutory health insurance pays for the sensors if they have been prescribed by a specialist (diabetologist). So far (Dexcom G6) I always got a permit for one year. From March 2023, I switched to the Dexcom G7 and immediately got a two-year permit from the health insurance company, as the G7 is significantly cheaper than the G6. I was initially very disappointed by the unreliability of the G7 (Ver. 008, production date August-September 2022). The last quarterly delivery (nine sensors) as well as 2 sensors sent to replace defective sensors were all not operational. Either immediately after trying to pair the sensor, I received the message "Pairing unsuccessful" or "Sensor failed. Replace sensor now". I was convinced that I would return to the G6 and had already asked Dexcom what to do (submit a new prescription from the specialist for the Dexcom G6). Since I had to wait a day for the follow-up delivery and my diabetologist still had a G6 sensor in the practice (I still had a transmitter that was not completely used), I got it as a gift and used it. When the replacement delivery of G7 sensors arrived, this revision was 012 (production date May 2023). I used the G7 in parallel with the G6 and noticed some similarities but also some significant differences: 1. The measured values of the G6 and the G7 matched very well after an initial calibration. I usually calibrate the sensors 8 to 10 hours after setting, but only if the values are stable (not after eating or after an injection) and differ more than 20% from the measured blood glucose value. 2. Where there were deviations, sometimes the G6 and sometimes the G7 was closer to the measured blood glucose level. 3. G/: No gaps in the blood glucose measurement when changing the sensor, G6: No values for two hours. 4. The G7 has much more subtle warning tones than the G6. 5. With the G7, a freely configurable pause can be taken after a warning until the meal (if the values are too low) or the insulin (if the values are too high) are effective, i.e. it is much less annoying. 6. The receiver is more informative, smaller and lighter, and its battery lasts much longer (10 to 12 days for me). 7. The G7 -receiver is readable for me at night without glasses, because it has a higher contrast (white lettering on a black background), the G6-receiver is not readable for me at night without glasses. 8. The G7 app offers more information than the G6 app. 9. The G7 sensor is smaller, so it is less annoying and less noticeable. 10. The sensor patch of the G7 doesn't itch, the G6 patch is itchy for me in summer. 11. The G7 comes in Germany with an extra over-patch that I personally don't need because the G7 holds on my skin even without this extra patch. 12. The G7 reacts faster and more strongly than the G6 to rising or falling values. 13. The sometimes strongly fluctuating measured values (more bouncing dots than a line graph) of the G7 to Rev. 008 has from Rev. 012 largely disappeared. On the other hand, the G6 has a nicely balanced blood glucose curve, which reassures the user, regardless of whether the values are correct or not. After these experiences, it is clear to me that I will stay with the G7, as I also assume that it will be improved further in the future.
Regarding getting Insurance companies to cover my G7 sensors, I have a story to tell... I have United Health Care, and they cover the Dexcom, but not the Libre. However, when I applied for Pre-Authorization, it was denied because I am HypERglycemic, as opposed to HypOglycemic. Apparently, United Healthcare only covers the CGM if your blood sugar runs too LOW, not high, and you're not on insulin. Well, I appealed that decision with the argument that even though I had a HIGH blood sugar problem, I need to get visibility to trends in my blood sugar, not just point-in-time which is all the finger-sticks can do. Bottom line, my appeal was accepted.
Thank you so much for this video. It is very helpful. I just ordered the Lexcam patches and Dexcom also will send me G6 over patches. They said I can cut them to fit the G7. They said they are working on a better patch for the G7. I have to say Dexcom has great customer service.
I'm looking forward to using the G7. Have to wait until it can be used with my Tandem pump. Hopefully soon. I use my thighs quite a bit along with my arms. When I use my thigh I place it in between the top and side and sometimes on the top part. I get very good results. You can get stickers for the G7 and the G6 if you want to dress them up. Can also get over patches with designs. Makes it fun to wear especially for kids.
Wonderful video !. Thank you. Been using DEXCOM G7 for 2 weeks now and I’m very disappointed to identify many incidents where G7 differs by 20% in the its reading from the needle test !. i.e G7 shows 130 needle 170-180 Very confused whether to trust it all. Any advice ?.
I would love to see a placement comparison of the thigh/inner thigh area compared to the 'approved' sites. I've always used the thigh for G6/7 and Freestyle Libre 2 and 3 and it seems to work totally fine. I like having it in that location as it doesn't scrape on walls and its not visible.
Thank you for clarifying the aspects of the Dexcom 7. I was forced to change from Libre 3, which was effortless, to the G7, which takes more attention. Your video helps!
I know here in America, they recommend the back of the arm to place the sensor. But I keep ripping it off. I really want to know if it’s ok to place it on my abdomen.
My doctor and nurse told my the stomach is fine. The nurse, who had gestational diabetes, said wearing it on the stomach was more accurate for her. I found that to be correct. I usually place it slightly on the side of my abdomen to prevent accidental rip-offs.
One warning about the G7 receiver: the plastic face of the receiver is very, very prone to scratching. Do not put anything else in your pocket if you carry the receiver in it. A couple of times I put my car keys in my pocket with the receiver. I quickly noticed that the face was scratching badly, and in fact it scratches so much that at first I thought it was “fogged” from dirt or skin oil. It was, in fact, extremely scratched from rubbing against the keys (and I don’t carry a bundle, just a car key, house key, and the fob for my car on one of those circular key doodads). I rarely carry change (coins) but I assume they would scratch the face of the receiver, too. The scratches are permanent, and I can’t imagine why Dexcom designed a pocket-sized receiver made of such easily scratched, soft plastic. From the get go, make sure your receiver doesn’t share a pocket with anything else!
Glad to hear that you can still get the G7 with a receiver. I'm in Canada, where G7 is just being introduced - and I prefer the receiver over using my mobile since the G4 I was gifted in 2015 and now back on G6 with socialised system in my province that I had to fight for as a hypo unaware T1D of 60 years (it's gotten worse with age LOL) . Somehow - Dexcom Canada is being very hush hush about there being a receiver available - but obviously where ever you live - it's available. Psst, the G4/G5 receiver screens were the same - screen protector is a must!
@@FatCatAnna I am in the US … I should have mentioned that, sorry. I also prefer the receiver as I don’t generally carry my iPhone around in my house with me (I’m retired and like many older people don’t feel like I’m joined at the hip to my phone!). Listening to many of the diabetes RUclipsrs, it does seem that availability varies quite a bit from country to country. It probably has something to do with Dexcom’s profits. As I’m sure you know, here in the states our health care is mainly private sector and medical insurance coverage is expensive (even our “socialized” retirement health care - Medicare - is inadequate and requires supplemental private pay add-ons), BUT providers can charge high rates and insurance will generally pay them, so Dexcom probably makes more money charging US health insurance for G-7 systems and the receivers than the Canadian health system is willing to pay them (after all, the app is free so why pay extra for the receiver). I wish I had known about the soft plastic screen before I scratched mine up! Lesson for next time. BTW, I have had two sensor failures in the latest batch sent to me (I get a three month supply). One had no adhesive on the backing and immediately fell off; the other failed as soon as it warmed up. I contacted Dexcom and they quick-shipped me replacements with essentially no questions asked, which tells me they might be encountering a higher failure rate than expected. They also tell me that they can’t supply extra overpatches for G-7 sensors. Sounds like they are overwhelmed. Good luck getting a receiver (perhaps you could get one through a contact in the states??). And is your cat actually overweight? 😊🐈⬛
@@FatCatAnnathat’s such a relief because all the advertisements haven’t included a receiver which is why I’m still using a g6. That freaked me out too much. What if my phone breaks??
URGH!!! I have resisted the receiver but you make a good point about the size/weight. I am having trouble getting used to carrying my phone all the time. You’ve convinced me and even before I finish this video I’m off to charge the stupid receiver. Came back to add that I just came back from watering the plants and deadheading my flowers and OMG that receiver was awesome. So light. I am not used to taking my phone when I go outside to water plants or into the bathroom or just to the other room and this is great for me. Now I just have to make sure I don’t forget about it and wash it😀
I am just starting to use the G7. I previously was on the Libre 3 and switched to Dexcom because I can get a 90-day supply through insurance. I started with the G6 but didn't like it, I felt it was going backward in technology and it was bulky compared to Libre 3. I am on my 3rd G7 now and I really like it, I haven't gotten a low due to compression at night(I use the back of my arm). I have a Samsung phone and have not lost signal unless I get 40 or 50 feet away, so your problem may have to do with using an Apple phone. I want to thank you for your tutorials for using the G6 and the G7.
I have the G6. Signal loss happens occasionally, but it's the first day of starting a new sensor that's fun. The first 12hrs can bounce all over the place. I had one time it was reading under 50 and alerting me, yet I didn't feel like I was having low blood sugar. So, had to do a poke check and found out everything was fine. Not sure if I'm able to get the G7 yet, in the US we are under the rule of insurance companies. It sucks, but not much we can do about it.
Thanks Tom! I’ll be interested to see if there are improvements in the G7 graph stability by the time it integrates with the tandem pump. Currently, I still get some “jittery” graphs with my G6, usually related to placement, but my pump sees those sudden jumps in the graph and will often give me a bolus thinking I’m rising rapidly, even though it is just jumping up but then remaining stable. This is very frustrating, and I usually take it right out of Control IQ mode when it’s doing this, but that negates the point of having a closed loop system. Time will tell I guess. I love the options they have included now for the alerts (hahaha, six hours of zen silence!) and you make a great point about the receiver… thanks for the great content!
Big let down! Other than the faster set up time, I’ve been so disappointed with the G7. Main issues are as follows; 1.The single loss issues are truly awful. 2.The stability issue is messy. 3.I’ve had a lot more failed sensors with the g7. 4. I’ve had false lows a few times with pressure on the sensor while sleeping. 5. The widget doesn’t work very well. I think that is due to apple but still. I’ll have to try some of these tips but I think this product was released too early, particularly in Europe.
Dexcom does not wnt the sensors to last 15 days because they can sell 50% more sensors! Follow the money trail. I remember the dexcom before the dexcom 6. If you got a good senor it could last 3 weeks and STILL be accurate. So in the Dexcom 6 their 'improvement' was to make it automatically STOP at EXACTLY 10 days - to the hour. They claimed 'accuracy'. I claim they made less money.
Technically, it is not tested on abdomen in the US and best results are achieved on the upper arm. However, many user place it on the belly and it works for them. It is considered an off-label use though. Hope this helps. I appreciate the superthanks!
Hello, How cool that you give such an extensive review with all kinds of helpful tips about the Dexcom G7. I found it particularly interesting to turn off the sound on the Dexcom G7 app. I use the Dexcom G6 Dash instead of a telephone. Unfortunately I can't turn off the sound of low BG alarms on that. Super irritating if, for example, you are at a classical concert or if you think that others do not need to know that you are receiving a BG alarm. Is there a way to completely disable the alarms of the Dexcom G6 reader? I can set the function to vibrate, but in case of danger (low BG) an alarm still goes off. super annoying
I just want to know if u can wear anywhere besides the upper arm I lost 4 sensors taking off tshirts and in the the shower and not to mention it’s summer I sweat very heavily and another came off😢
I am pre diabetic and got my doctor to prescribe me the G7 with the monitor. A lot of my choice was based on your excellent videos. I have a masters in operations management and am using the g7 to get near real time data on how my activity effects my glucose level. It has been very informative. I was very interested in the possibility of using the sensors for longer as I pay for everything myself and am not yet (and hopefully never) taking insulin. Can you point us to how we can get out G7 sensors to last longer? I am tempted to hack the the G7 to get it to run until the battery on the sensor dies. I intend to disassemble a user G7 sensor to see what I can do with it. The other thing is figure out hoe to use the Stelo with the dedicated Dexcom Monitor
WOW…thank you for so much information. ESP. Accuracy after 6 or more hours. I put my first new H 7 sensor on and it reads 88 dcl and my finger stick reads 147!
My sons first G7 work ed great, the second wouldn't even start up went straight to senor failure.. They are 1 for 2, hopefully the 3rd that comes today will actually work.
I place my G7 where I had my G6 , on my upper abdomen to the side slightly where there is enough fat . I did the arm and it was painful and I couldnt get safe and reliable readings. I have the dedicated receiver and the only signal losses I have is if I walk away from the receiver or if im around another RF signal that interferes with the dexcom. As far as putting the sensor on I would say its a good idea from my experience not to have it so the probe is inserted vertically rather to make sure it is horizontal (at least in my case) so that the fine probe doesnt get flexed on heavily if you bend over or sit down and so on .. Other wise it is very accurate with some quirks here and there and i personally havent had much issue with the adhesive yet .
Morning friend, like your informative channel. Need some clarity on dexcom g7 to be inserted on upper chest area. I'm having issues on the inner arm, now using belly area. Good day.
currently I’m waiting to receive my first Dexcom 7 in the mail and want to know if the stomach is an approved site. Thank you for all ur tips they’re very informative
How do you get the receiver? I hate using my Iphone because the G7 app sucks up all of my battery! My insurance covered the G7..is the receiver supposed to come with it?
Thank you for great informative video. A quick question. When I use the Accucheck meter for finger, I noticed readings are variable when you take the reading immediately after waking up vs. washing hands w warm water. Is it relaled to the circulation ? Also , is G& receiver more stable than iphone in terms of maintaining signal ?
Wow! I just started with the Dex 7. I wonder how you can get your averages or projected averages with the same number as you get from the lab. i.e. 8.7 etc....It's probably in the software somewhere. Thanks.
Thanks for the video, have moved from Dexcom One to G7 today! I've managed to get the home screen widget working, but how do we get lock screen one? The dexcom g7 app isn't an option like it was for the home screen widgets
If you do a video on alternative sensor sites, I’d love to see how it works for you using on the upper thigh. I heard that’s a good place to try to use it.
Concerning tip #10. Presoaking the sensor. When you insert the new sensor, does it automatically start its 10.5 day lifespan? So if you presoak for 10 hours before starting the new sensor and stopping the old sensor, then you only have 10 days and 2 hours of life left in the new sensor?
@10:27 I don’t have any problems with dexterity but I have to ask someone else to apply the G7 lately. I just cannot trigger the button and i never had a problem applying the G6?!
My 5y/o granddaughter just diagnosed T1D, hope they are able to connect to Apple Watch soon as she starts kindergarten…has to have phone in Fanny pack😳 Dexcom 7 is soooo much better than finger sticks all the time… all new to us as of 7/23
We’re in the same boat. My 5yo just got diagnosed at the end of June. Can’t wait to be able to send her with just a watch rather than a phone. It’ll be so much easier to ensure she has it close enough.
Love your videos! My 12 year old son switched to the g7 a few months ago. We do some some issues but it's overall more accurate than the g6. One question, where did you get your clock looking thing thats on your shelf? Would be perfect for my son's room so he can see exactly what he's at while hanging out. Thanks again!
Thank you so much! The CGM clock/display I have on my shelf is this one. You can get it here for both Libre and Dexcom customtypeone.com/?ref=typeonetalks
Thank you for the video. I live in Sweden and waiting for Omnipod5 and possibly DexcomG7. I hope so that DexcomG7 will integrate with the Omnipod 5 System. Otherwise I will continue with Libre3.
I have a serious medical issue with my arm so can't use a G7 sensor there, but Dexcom won't recommend any other locations. I listened carefully to the alternate locations some U.S. customers are using. I'd appreciate any feedback in how successful these alternate locations are. Abdomen better than thigh? Calf or chest even better? I'm unhappy my supplier is switching me to G7. What if someone has severe arthritis and can't attach the sensors on the back of the upper arm? Or has had an accident & now has an injured arm? In some ways, G6 was preferable. That being said, sincere thanks for your helpful video. I have learned some important strategies in transitioning to the G7.
im a little late to the video, but Ive spoken to the dexcom providers on call about my sensor peeling off too easily, and as a result theyve now modified my recurring quartlery package to include the stickers to put around my dexcom sensor. (im on G6 right now, dont know if this is available for other versions)
The adhesive is not a problem for me. Its acutely better and i live in hot ass Florida in the USA. Yes the watch reading in Android would be great. Also it would great if they could figure out a 15 day wear for us insulin folks.
Thank you for all that information. Getting a CMG is hard when you are not diabetic (Latvia). I bought the dexcom One, only to find out that my phone is not compatible. Is my only option strips and needles?
I had to switch from freestyle libre 3 to dexcom g7 because of my health insurance. But with freestyle the back of arm never worked for me because I am a side sleeper and it would stop signal and the alarm would go on all night so I moved it to my upper chest region and viole THAT WAS AN AMAZING LOCATION... CAN I USE MY UPPER CHEST FOR MY DEXCOM G7
We never calibrate our daughters GCM because our doctors are against it and say it can cause more issues. We’ve had some that go out of range but eventually they always find their way back into range. Atleast that has been our experience with the GCM so far
Regarding BT signal loss, I've tested a G7 REV 10 (it's written on the box) and yes, the BT signal was very weak. However, I've tested 2 sensors REV 11 and I had no single issue with BT. It was staying connected even at a distance of 12.5m/40ft.. I believe the BT has been fixed since REV 11. Maybe other users can confirm here in the comments.
@@lorenzobroccoli748 REV 3 seems to be quite 'old.' I'm living in Switzerland, and here I have received REV 11 directly, as Switzerland received it later than the rest of Europe. The REV 10 I used first, with continuous signal loss, was from the USA. In Italy, it seems they started distributing REV 8 and REV 9. Look for the 'Rev' on the green side of the box where the QR code is located. It's not a secret that Dexcom is continuously improving the sensors through small changes, and whenever they make a change, it appears that they increase the REV number. This is my assumption; otherwise, I cannot explain why I noticed such an impressive improvement in the BT signal from REV 10 to REV 11.
@@florinbv78 Thank you very much for the reply, I will try to talk to customer support about it. You're right on the green back side (the one with the qr code) it says Rev 009. Before I read the white side with the info, there it says REV 003, small in gray along with other codes. I am experiencing continuous signal losses in the last 2/3 days of life of the sensor. I am very disappointed as I received a 6 month supply... Anyway, I think you're right with assumption, thanks again for the very useful info.
@@lorenzobroccoli748 If you're using an iPhone, check if you have updated the Dex app to the latest version 1.7. Some people state that Rev 09 works better since the update of Dex app to 1.7. I'm if this works for you too.
Thank you for the great content in all your videos. Do you happen to know if Dexcom 7 has a "Take back" program like Freestyle Libre does? This is one of the things I dislike about dexcom...
Regarding putting anything directly below your deltoid- there is a nerve that runs close to the surface right through there. That might be why you have pain there.
How close can you put the new sensor to the old sensor during the grace period? Will having them too close to each other cause interference? My mother prefers to have the sensor on her abdomen (she has plenty of fat there). Mom's phone has a crappy battery so we use the receiver that came with the dexcom. Can the calibration be done with that thing? Also, can you pair a phone AND the receiver at the same time? I wish they had a longer range transmitter for caregivers so we can get alerts. Or maybe have the receiver also be able to transmit/connect to wifi or something, to send info to an app on another device so I could get alerts when her sugar gets too high or too low. The sensor not coming out happened with the very first one my mother ever got. But it was being used properly, it was just defective. It was being pressed against the skin very firmly and the little plastic thing receded into the applicator, but the receiver would not come out. The application was being done by the specialist who does this all the time and never had a problem before. Dexcom is sending us a new sensor to replace it though. Lexcom is the name of the adhesive strips? My mother wants to disable the rising fast alert. She just wants to know if her sugar is too low or too high so she can do something about it-- mostly if it gets too low so she can eat something. Hmm. Did they ever implement the direct to phone or other device as well? I'd love to get something direct to my phone. I couldn't seem to pair my phone with the transmitter though. it wouldn't read the barcode and never could detect the sensor even with bluetooth on. It took us MONTHS for Medicare to approve the G7. Mom finally got her Dexcom last Friday. Looks like since this video was posted that Tandem has made one of their pumps compatible with the G7. Thank you for this info!
Isn't an over patch included with each Dexcom G7 sensor package? I found that the free over patches provided by Dexcom for the G6 are very good especially when used with a skin tac prep. The Lexcam over patches for the G6 are just as good except that the top liner is slightly more difficult to remove.
There are free patches included with the G7, but they are very thin and small. The edges start peeling almost immediately. My first G7 sensor came off in 2 days because the patch was too flimsy to do any good. I found some clear ones on Amazon that work much better and haven’t had any more come off.
@HeatherDillard-wz1iz I have absolutely no problems with the G7 overpatches. I am on the 4th sensor and I have no lifting edges after 10 days when I replace the sensor: 1. Clean the area with alcohol and let dry. 2. Insert the G7 sensor. 3. Use a SkinTac pad around the sensor on the patch and on the skin then let dry 1 minute. 4. Apply the overpatch. While showering I protect the sensor from the water stream and soap or lotion. At the end of 10 days the overpatch may look a little wrinkled but I have to pick at the edge to lift it off.
What failure rates have users seen for the G7? If I take a trip that lasts three months, I will use 9 sensors for the 90 days I am gone. Assume that getting a replacement while I am gone is impractical. Based on user experience, how many extra sensors should I take on my trip? 0, 1, 2, or more?
Cough, cough, I just did a 3 months sail - where getting supplies would be difficult. I work in the diabetes field - and we always tell our patients - 3X what you need. Yuppers, I had to shlog almost 3 months extra with me - pain in the ass - as flight charged me for my medical bag (low cost airline) - otherwise - usually I fly with carry on and meds bag into aircraft with no problems. And yes, all those medical supplies were stuffed in my carry on with clothing underneath aircraft!
I’ve noticed, on occasion, that if I get dehydrated (like with cold medications), my G7 will give very low readings. I’m asymptomatic and after drinking water, the readings come back into range. This does make sense, since the G7 is measuring interstitial fluid, rather than blood directly. Thought I’d share this, let me know if I’m wrong.
Sounds like you are staying on top of things. If I have a high or low with my G7, I test with a strip for comparison. Of course I'm comparing actual blood to interstitial fluid that the G7 tests. Best wishes to you.
august 2024 There is no widget for android yet and the g7 now works with the omni pod 5 but you have to have the newest omni pod version says g6/g7 on top right of box I am currently using the G7 with the omni pod 5 and its fine.
Thank you for answering a question Dexcom couldn't - does the G7 connect directly to the pump or via a phone. You said it connects directly to the pump meaning if the phone is out of range, the pump is still able to receive readings from the G7 to dose/not dose accurately. The only thing I'm not loving about the Guardian sensors is the fact that they last for 10 days. I would love for them to be 7 days so that I can change on the weekends. I realise I could cut the sensor short, but in Australia, we are only given the exact amount of CGMs at the discounted rate in 12 months. If I'm cutting the G7 short by three days so I can change it on the weekend (like I do with Medtronic's Guardian 4) then it is going to get very expensive when my 'script' runs out for the G7 sensors. Why don't developers think of things like that? 7 and 14 are great for management like that. 10 days just doesn't make any sense. Neither does 15.
This video includes all Dexcom G7 tips I learned throughout my "career". Let me know what you think and feel free to share your favorite tips! I always want to improve so I would love to hear your feedback to see whether there is anything I can do better in my future review videos. Please let me know! Love you all! Have you ever used the "Skin Tac" liquid adhesive? I have always used it with the G6. It worked great. I don't know why it wouldn't work with the G7.
Is it best to put the sensor in a fatty area? @typeonetalks

Dexcom g7 was a gamechanger
I ordered them from Amazon and are relatively inexpensive for a box of 100.
are they for removing the adhesive or is it a better than the one supplied to hold the cgm on?
@@timlist4173-- The Skin Tac adds additional adhesive. It works great. Tac-Away wipes can be used to remove adhesive.
Thank you so much for your video. I just got my Dexcom G7 today. And, needless to say, I was overwhelmed by all of it. However, you helped clear up a lot of my confusion! Thank you!
Yes! Please I would love to see a G7 site comparison. Really hoping for this.
Thank you!!! I take care of my dad and we just got the Dexcom 7. I have no idea what I am doing and this helped so much!
When I have had problems with my Dexcm
6 or 7, I call Dexcom and they replace it for free! I love your videos. Thank you! I have had type 1for55yrs. I have learned so much about it. It is great to see others who understand. Thanks again!
competition 😂
When I contacted Dexcom for problems before, they gave me a run around after they found out I was in Canada.
I used the G7 in parallel with the G6 and noticed some similarities but also some significant differences:
I love that Dexcom provides an extra adhesive patch in the recent versions. This was very informative thanks so much
Thank you so much for this video. It is very helpful. I just ordered the Lexcam patches and Dexcom also will send me G6 over patches. They said I can cut them to fit the G7. They said they are working on a better patch for the G7. I have to say Dexcom has great customer service.
Can it work if i mess up the overpatch
@@rizzymay450-- I messed up my G7 overarching. I asked if they could send me another overpatch and they just sent me a whole new sensor pack.
This is a great video, thanks for your time and information and please keep it up.
Wonderful video !. Thank you.
Been using DEXCOM G7 for 2 weeks now and I’m very disappointed to identify many incidents where G7 differs by 20% in the its reading from the needle test !.
i.e G7 shows 130 needle 170-180
Very confused whether to trust it all.
Works better for me
Thank you for clarifying the aspects of the Dexcom 7. I was forced to change from Libre 3, which was effortless, to the G7, which takes more attention. Your video helps!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
I’ve always used the THIGH as it’s more discreet even in shorts and swimming. Seems to be quite accurate am curious what you come up with
I know here in America, they recommend the back of the arm to place the sensor. But I keep ripping it off. I really want to know if it’s ok to place it on my abdomen.
I need to know the same.. My very first sensor (now, on the back of my arm) hurts. My G6 worked just fine, on my belly..😢
A nurse friend of mine places hers on her abdomen! You should be totally fine. :)
My doctor and nurse told my the stomach is fine. The nurse, who had gestational diabetes, said wearing it on the stomach was more accurate for her. I found that to be correct. I usually place it slightly on the side of my abdomen to prevent accidental rip-offs.
Abdomen is fine, but it must be
at least two inches away from your belly button.
What about the upper inner thigh?
Genius idea while switching! Thanks for the videos!
I want to know how the G7 works on abdomen attachment. Thank You
Thank you for this video, it helped me a lot to understand what all the alerts were for.
Thank you ! You break everthing down so well ! awesome job!!!
Loved the tip about the G7 widget on my phone's home screen.
same!
Thank you for all your research it really helps me setup things for my mom.
Now I just have to make sure I don’t forget about it and wash it😀
I bought a cover and hang it from my neck. Prob purchase a waterproof one so I case u forget and shower with it. Lots of accessories..
Thanks for the great video!! I just got the G7, I will start with the G7 as soon as my last G6 sensor expires.
Thank you. Great information, especially about calibration.
Big let down! Other than the faster set up time, I’ve been so disappointed with the G7. Main issues are as follows;
1.The single loss issues are truly awful.
Great info. Thank you for your detailed video.
Well, I am going to be switching to the G7 from the G6, so this is been very helpful to me and I so appreciate it
Dexcom does not wnt the sensors to last 15 days because they can sell 50% more sensors!
I wear my g7 on my belly. I live in the US. Can you try using it on your belly?
Technically, it is not tested on abdomen in the US and best results are achieved on the upper arm. However, many user place it on the belly and it works for them. It is considered an off-label use though. Hope this helps. I appreciate the superthanks!
Thanks Tom, as always, a beautifully produced vid!
In Ontario Canada cgm is not covered by any insurance
Wow! As always, excellent video. Thank you, thank you!!!
Can you show how to restart the G7 sensor?
Making me think twice about transferring from G6 to G7.
Thank you brother!
Very helpful information!
Appreciated you are doing that !
Hello,
How cool that you give such an extensive review with all kinds of helpful tips about the Dexcom G7.
Excellent question!
I just want to know if u can wear anywhere besides the upper arm I lost 4 sensors taking off tshirts and in the the shower and not to mention it’s summer I sweat very heavily and another came off😢
Dr. put mine back on stomach.
Hopefully that Dexcom will come in Rwanda and I will know how to use it as well. Keep letting us know more❤
Excellent tips, thank you
I place my G7 where I had my G6 , on my upper abdomen to the side slightly where there is enough fat .
Good day.
Would love for you to test the G7 on your thigh and abdomen! I was so used of using my abdomen with Medtronic sensor! Much appreciated!!
currently I’m waiting to receive my first Dexcom 7 in the mail and want to know if the stomach is an approved site. Thank you for all ur tips they’re very informative
How do you get the receiver? I hate using my Iphone because the G7 app sucks up all of my battery! My insurance covered the G7..is the receiver supposed to come with it?
Mine did
Yea I literally have to move my phone to the other side of me, or pocket sometimes.
EXCELENT - YOUR THE BEST - Thank You for all your work and knowledge.
Voice Alerts would be awesome.
Yes. That is correct!
Question: having problems pairing a new sensor. Should I cancel search and then start a new search ?
@10:27 I don’t have any problems with dexterity but I have to ask someone else to apply the G7 lately. I just cannot trigger the button and i never had a problem applying the G6?!
You have to press it hard or it will not release.😊
My diabetes Nurse Practitioner recommended to me to use my upper leg as im a paraplegic and it’s more fatty
TY for the 10% off on the over patches
Can u use both iPhone and sensor at same time with dexcom g7?
Yes .
Thank you for the video. I live in Sweden and waiting for Omnipod5 and possibly DexcomG7.
I hope so that DexcomG7 will integrate with the Omnipod 5 System. Otherwise I will continue with Libre3.
haha i cracked up laughing when he went into his No-ALARM MODE for 6 hours lol. I can certainly relate to that LOL😁
The Home Screen tip was great! No Lock Screen widget available on g6. Maybe they added this to the app for G7?
Question. Steps in pairing 2 devices with g7 sensor. Icant see any videos that discuss that.
I wonder when will they include delta values, to know how fast is rising or lowering..
im a little late to the video, but Ive spoken to the dexcom providers on call about my sensor peeling off too easily, and as a result theyve now modified my recurring quartlery package to include the stickers to put around my dexcom sensor.
Can you get the data off the receiver? If so, what is the process?
I’m still on the G6 but I usually calibrate once if it’s still off by a lot after 24 hours, and then that usually fixes it for the rest of the sensor
You never calibrate if the difference is below 20 so you are correct.
Thanks for sharing. This is very helpful!
hi can you explain better? mine is REV 3, so far I've tried 2 of them and both lose signal continuously in the last 2 days
Excellent video! I learned a lot about the G7 and why it does what it does. Great work as usual from you!
@5:43 Front of thigh… ! I’d like to try that but i sleep on my front a lot…
move it from straight front toward inner thigh - works fine for me
Regarding putting anything directly below your deltoid- there is a nerve that runs close to the surface right through there.
Is there a way to connect the sensor to a new transmitter I took off as in hospital with a drip of insulin?
I am on the 4th sensor and I have no lifting edges after 10 days when I replace the sensor:
Hi,
I am having trouble with G6 (and soon G7): when showering, i have not found water protector to cover the sensor. What do you use?
Thanks for this informative video 🙂 (probably it's time to change your mobile phone screen protector)
