    Glossy any day of the week. The comparison made by Rtings makes it clear how bad matte coating is. S90D is bright, colorful enough and looks more premium. Great content as always KG

      I’ll take glossy finishes primarily as well if I got lights involved (unless it’s sunlight) and I see why most prefer it but light controlling the room eliminates any detrimental effects for me so I’ll just take the more capable TV, in this case it’s the S95D.

    KG always killing it with the TV comparisons. I just went with 77G4. The matte screen on the S95D and the issues you mentioned on the S90D just isn’t it this year. Also the extreme thermal throttling is ridiculous. Besides this year the G4 has fixed all issues that was present on the G3. I think the G4 is the best TV till now + brighter and way less agressieve abl in gaming mode than my 65A95L

      @TechWithKG  15 дней назад +4

      I just want to note that this throttling thing is not an issue I ran into nor will it ever likely impact viewers. Highlights are meant to be shown in bursts they aren’t likely to sustain brightness on any TV. I’m guessing the TV just detects testing patterns left on the screen and then protects the panel. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

    • @TechWithKG
      @TechWithKG  15 дней назад +2

      Yes depending on the content if you use professional mode on the G4 though (even just at default values) you will retain much more color than the default out of the box way.

      @@TechWithKG Rtings says: Unfortunately, large bright scenes are significantly dimmer than smaller specular highlights due to the TV's aggressive Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL). After a minute or so with a sustained 10% window on screen, the TV gets very hot and starts thermal throttling, so it becomes drastically dimmer. Strangely
      Anyway the matte screen alone is a deal breaker for me. I loved the S95B when it came out. It was just ground breaking. Now LG has played catch-up. To be fair, i think MLA wouldn’t exist if Samsung didn’t invent qd-oled

      It's the camera. Digital sensors have difficulty particularly capturing the color red. And the brighter the red, the more difficult it is to capture properly. Oftentimes this will lead to reds looking washed out or looking more orange than red. Part of the reason why it's VERY important to not form an opinion based off of what you see in videos like this. Cameras cannot capture at all what these things actually look like.

    Matte finish is the break factor for S95D, the ligh dispersion by Matte finish makes the display content dull and flat which is not acceptable to any OLED user to see.
    Gloss finish cant be beaten by matte finish and for the reflections on gloss finish I would say that
    lighting can be controlled , put heavy curtains on windows , switch off the light and enjoy the content on Gloss finish .
    Matte is flop!

    • @TechWithKG
      @TechWithKG  15 дней назад +1

      That may be the case for matte monitor vs glossy monitor but it’s certainly not the case with this finish. If you light control the room you get no issues. In a dark room there is no difference to how the TVs look in regards to shine / sheen / that glossy look whatever you want to call it and it’s far from flat I can say with confidence that the S95D has more depth overall based on its capability it doesn’t have to tone map as much therefore will give you a deeper look than the S90D.

    @kineahora8736 14 дней назад

    Wait, is it established that the S 90 D definitely uses second generation QOLED panels?
    I don’t believe that has been documented …
    R*Tings already did this comparison and concluded the S95D was probably not overall better than the S90D, though there are areas where each one was better. You can see their reviews and comparison.
    For instance the S95D can get better peak brightness for a short time, but overheats so quickly that it gets “thermal throttled” and then is less bright than the S90D until it can cool off.
    Actually for this reason I will probably get a LG G4 that is much more power efficient (like 50% better than the S95D) and gets a whole lot less hot, and therefore can be brighter longer-though you do sacrifice some color gamut and color volume…

    • @TechWithKG

      @@TechWithKG that’s fair I suppose. However, there are lots of people that watch hockey with large amounts of white on the screen for a long periods…
      Also, in general, my room has a TON of trouble with heat deposition… and I think consumers really ought to be informed how much power TV uses and how much heat it throws…
      In any event , the S 90 D, the S 95D, and the LG G4 are all fantastic TVs. Most of the big reviewers I have watched and many consumers favor the LG G4. Again it has decreased color gamut and color volume, but probably better overall brightness. It seems the S 95D is relatively poorly accurate with its colors out of the box being quite tilted towards blues, and really needs calibration. The S 90 D is better with out-of-box accuracy, and the LG G4 apparently doesn’t really need to be calibrated at all-It’s quite accurate out of the box.
      The G4 is 1 inch thick, whereas the S 90 D is 3/16” thick through most of its panel, but over 1.5 inch thick for a significant portion at the bottom, and the S 95D is 3/8” thick over its entire panel- making it the thinnest overall-these dimensions will be important to some people depending on mounting options (turns out this is a major factor for me as well).
      Then there’s the whole matte screen thing on the S 95D, which I would say the majority of consumers don’t like. And it is debatable whether it matters that much but the point is most consumers don’t like it.

    • @TechWithKG
      @TechWithKG  13 дней назад

      Hockey is not full HDR brightness though that’s the difference and the screen will already dim down enough to protect itself and most won’t even notice it, all OLED TVs do this btw it’s called ASBL.
      Btw the general feedback on the S95D screen coating I see from replies is mixed and I get a lot of enthusiasts. Your forgetting a lot of people buying it aren’t that, and I’d venture to guess with how successful the frame with a similar coating I wouldn’t be shocked if most people like it. All non TV people I showed personally love it.

    It's undeniable that the matte coating diminishes picture quality.
    You can't diffuse light without changing its quality.
    It's the New Coke of televisions.

      I disagree to a certain extent but I think it’s a justified complaint if your room isn’t great for the coating ambient lights could be an issue , but in a dark room like I was viewing them the coating never hindered the TV. That said I see why people don’t like it once I start to get some light bulbs near the TVs

      @@TechWithKG I see the use case in a very bright, sunlit room. I have a bright living room during the day and it has zero effect on my A95L.
      My serious viewing, however, comes at night when it's dark outside and I can turn off all the lights in my living room.
      If your serious viewing is during the day, get a job.... :)

    That matt screen on the S95D is awful, very bad design choice by Samsung.

      @@travellearnrepeat571 No I mean vibrance. Thanks to the quantum dots colors leap off the screen, particularly in movies with bt2020 colors. My fiancée who knows nothing about any of this stuff even noticed it. I was checking out Across The Spiderverse on 4K blu ray after I got this TV set up. She was just passing by heading to the kitchen and she stopped and her exact words were "Is this TV more vibrant than the last one?" The last one being a Samsung mini LED. QD-OLED is definitely more vibrant. Because it has the high color volume that QLED panels have but it's not held back by backlighting systems dumbing the color down a bit in actual content

    Doesn't offer much differences when people buy these TVs just to watch some crap streaming videos.

    At 07:30 the S90D looks MUCH better than the S95D... The S95D a lot of times in these side by sides looks fuzzy, more unclear and the color looks much less rich and more inaccurate... The color in the S90D looks much more deep, rich, and correct in almost every scene... I'd rather have better color and full hdmi bandwidth vs brightness for the sake of brightness and the coated screen with grayish blacks. The S95D looks surprisingly worse to me in most examples
