The model movements in cutscenes are so much more advanced in SS4 than SS3 because of the motion capture they used.
They are still a little stiff tho, but in a charming way oddly enough.

I was the only kid in my school/Highschool that talked about serious sam, and I still do in College. Most people forgot or just never played the games. I was a year old when Sam 1 released.

Ariq Ahmad Small team, but with all in-house tech. I mean, the Serious Engine is sometimes underappreciated. The only thing I do miss is directional gravity, which was present in the original The Second Encounter, but was dropped in the later iterations of the engine.

Do you know why you see most Russians? Because for us, this game became very native and was much more popular than Doom. The films Indiana Jones, Lara Croft: tomb raider, mummy - very much contributed to the popularity of SS4 in Russia. Pyramids, tombs, temples, traps - all this attracted, and also in addition there is a game with all this and even with a bunch of monsters and an unrealistically good set of weapons (from a knife to a laser weapon). I'm a big fan from Russia, I'm 35 years old - I've been playing Sam since about 17 years old, I love all the parts. Serious Sam is my favorite game. I am with you from beginning to end. Sorry for google translate and long letter.
I want to tell you something important - I hope it helps make Sam a better person. Most of Sam's fans are ordinary people and they can not always express exactly what they want and as a result, confusion comes out. At one time I was very fond of the level editor Serious Engine 1 and made maps, painted my textures, wrote music for the levels, and therefore I know what it is.
Serious Sam 4 is a great game, I really liked it, but it lacks something to feel completely immersed. There are several things that created a unique atmosphere in the first part of Sam and I think I figured out what these things are:
1) What happened in the Comings and became too much in 2 parts? Cartoons! Where is the line after which there is too much cartoony? In the first part, the TEXTURES WERE DRAWING, which made the characters unreality, BUT THE FIGURES (outlines, polygons) HAVE A FULLY REALISTIC LOOK. In part 2, the figures became too cartoonish with hypertrophied body parts, which somewhat changed the atmosphere of the game and not everyone liked it. I want to note that the architecture in Part 2 of Sam is just beautiful! It can be seen that a titanic work has been done, and if the models were changed to more realistic ones (in proportions), the game would have looked much better.
2) Textures on the walls! What gorgeous textures were in the first parts! The walls were full of ornaments, the bricks ended with frames, patterns and other things. This is so lacking in Part 4! The walls are just brick, and the whole ornament is only 3-dimensional and rather rare. It resembles reality.
3) The atmosphere of unreality of what is happening. While playing the first parts, you were immersed in some special fairy-tale world, in which everything is different than in reality. Fuck realism! To hell with trying to make the architecture as similar as possible! You had your own unique architecture, which is BETTER than in reality! I don't want to return to reality after it! You made your architecture as you saw it and it was wonderful! Why is a boring real Egypt needed? There is a beautiful colorful Egypt from the first part and do not care that this is not in reality! The traps were gorgeous and don't care the architecture was illogical! To hell with logic! This is not about Sam's Universe!
4) There was one more detail that added atmosphere - Sam was completely alone in this huge fairy world and only the chip implanted into his head was his companion. But this is not so important, although ... Many people now feel lonely and this made Sam closer.
Let's sum up: realistic figures with hand-drawn textures, walls with beautiful ornaments, unrealistic architecture, a feeling of loneliness in a huge strange world.
I would like the subsequent parts of Sam to return closer to the origins and plunge into this fabulous world. Don't try to please everyone! The plot is an interesting thing, but you can do without it by simply adding the things that I described above. It took me a long time to figure out what I was missing in the new parts of Sam. Serious Sam 4 has become a little closer to the classics in terms of gameplay, but not enough. Don't think that I don't like parts 2, 3 and 4! They are good, but these are different games.
I want to add an offtopic - in many animated series, the main villains won not a single one, but many times and they returned again and again. You can do the same with the Mind! There are several options: 1) He was expelled, but not destroyed. 2) Mental is an immortal creature and plunged into a deep sleep, from which he will be awakened again (here you can come up with a plot of how the inhabitants of other planets call on Sam to help them destroy Mental, having learned that he had already defeated him once). 3) A new villain from Space will come and attract the same allies in the form of Clears and so on. 4) A relative of Mental will attack.
