  • Two radios that are about the same type and no SSB is a good compare

I have both and enjoy both. The D-109 does have bluetooth which comes in handy when I want to stream a podcast from my phone. But you are correct. The DX-286 blows it away for radio reception and advanced features. It's worth the price difference which is more than twice that of the XHData

Cannot get Quodosen here in India. Had written to Quodosen. They say their current shopping platform does not support the Indian region. Promised to inform me when they had a new shopping platform to sell in India

Granted: AM/FM/SW radio is better on the Qodosen. But - the 'advantage' with the XHDATA is the Bluetooth and TF/USB card feature which the Qodosen doesn't have either feature - and, it's considerably cheaper. So for me personally, I love having those two features on the XHDATA.

Cheaper with really bad performance on all bands..not much of a winner

Elimination of FM bleed & overloading are the 2 key benefits of the Qodosen DX-286! Thanks, Gilles...

So hi Giles: Tucsun 330 or 286 (SSB aside)? Or Skywave?

Let's be realistic : who is going to connect an external antenna to these portable radios ? Almost nobody I guess. I'm a hardcore radio lover and I have my ham licence. Although I never connect a wire to these radios. These are "gadgets" (a very nice one in the case of the dx286) that are intended to be brought on holidays or moved though the house.
If I wanted to do real shortwave listening, I'd do it with way more advanced hardware. My Kenwood TS-400S/AT would be a better choice, probably.
In these conditions, the d109 will not suffer overload. And I still believe it offers a better quality / price ratio than the qodosen (in normal use cases, that is, without connecting it to an external antenna).
Also, I knew it before buying the qodosen but the very short battery life is a big (I mean huge) negative point. Ok, I can keep some ready to be used and fully loaded batteries but I just don't like it and I don't like opening the battery case every day to place a new battery.
This being said, the qodosen is a very good radio, but it has to be enhanced in a number of ways to be the best one : way better battery life, more filter bandwidths and probably SSB. If they can achieve this, yeah, I agree, it will be the ultimate handheld radio.
You can argue this is just my opinion and not "technical facts", and I'd agree (somehow) :)
But then, your opinion is also that, most people will probably end up connecting an external antenna to these radios :)

      1. we all do put external antennas on these, 2. you are very ignorant for a ham since you do not even realise these radios today kick the butt of a lot of modern transceivers, these are DX capable and far from toys. you talk of a D109 that is the cheapest radio. my reviews are based on real life listening and most of the ones sold today. I have am a ham and I can tell you I got enough of most know it all hams out there that actually know a lot less then I do.

Well guess what you are Soo far from being right. Are you joking to be fair I have around 7 different external antennas that I use regularly with my radios some passive some active.. but to sit there and act like who does that. WE ALL DO IT if they say they don't there lying😅😅😅
