Story :
So, it all begins with the death of Laurens, when Hamilton gets to know that his John died, he change himself. From this moment nothing in particular can make him truely happy. He suffer, but he hides the emotions from people, because he wants to keep the past in the past. When it comes to Hamilton-Burr duel, he is scared for a short time, but then he realises someone is waiting for him. And he's just letting go | yes it's a reference |
As it may be confusing, about the ending, yes, it's John and Alex meeting again after death.

Laurens' death hit Alexander really hard and he shut off some compartment of his emotions and he never reopened it
This is actually true Historically:
After John died, Hamilton actually went 2 days without talking to anybody else, not even with his wife, friends and family after John's death. According to journals written by Hamilton's friends and family, after John's death, Hamilton sort of changed alot, they described him as a shadow of his former self. He had a harder time making new friends and relationships, and alot of historians think that the reason why Hamilton buried himself under alot of work because it coped as a some kind of coping mechanism to deal with his depression. And there is a popular theory believed by historians, that the reasons why Hamilton cheated on Eliza was to try and drown his feelings for John.

Just the thought that Alex cheated on Eliza to try to drown out his feelings for John hits me hard.
And thinking about how 'never enough' in this case means that the attention he got Washington and the counrty and everything he did and made possible just didn't help him drown his feelings.
Even an affair was not enough.
Then (seeing as he provokes Burr and smiles as he gets shot and dies) makes me think he wanted to die but also didn't want to kill himself so he needed a cover. And he knew Burr isn't that hard to provoke and/or bring him to rage so he saw the perfect opportunity. This is just making me tear up and sob violently. It hit me hard in the feels. Fuck.

Alexander was never satisfied! That just makes a good role-model to the country. And Burr,I don’t think he is a bad guy. He waited and waited for his turn but Alexander kept taking(i also don’t think Alexander is a bad guy) Burr couldn’t wait anymore so he went for duel,that was one of his most regretted mistakes that he did.

Actually in real life Burr said that he did not regret killing Hamilton. He went around telling everyone. Hamilton on the other hand was always arrogant. Though he stopped really caring about his life when Laurens died.

This song is PERFECT for Hamilton's life. Nothing was ever enough for him. Maybe he could've done better holding his legacy if he had realized that he didn't have to keep climbing for a goal he'd already achieved. He would dwell on the past and try to perfect his future, spending more time on gaining power for himself than on the happiness of the people around him. Eliza tried to persuade him to just focus on the present, "look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now." He stopped at nothing, but sometimes it might've been better if he *had* stopped. He didn't have enough with Eliza, so in came poor Mariah. He never had enough money, so he made plans to have the government assume state debts. Now, place your bets as to who that benefits. The very seat of government where Hamilton sits. *Clears throat.* Sorry, I got off topic.

Damn it must've been hard not to end things himself. Even as a child, he said it himself he just couldn't seem to die. Everything he did never fully took away all of his feelings towards Laurens, not the opportunities he's recieved to work along side the force that inevitably got the nation really moving, not the Schuyler family, not his own children, not his affairs or anything (though of course were not sure because we werent there) like legit provoking Burr must've been his last moment of actual genius. He was going to die anyway, and once he does he'll finally be reunited with all the people that had passed before him, but of course he'd be leaving a lot behind. Just thinking about it sounds so painful.

The stories behind the people of the musical, are just as touching as the fact that someone made these stories known. And the beauty is shared by an artist who likewise was touched by their stories. And that artist’s work was beautifully captured with a song that perfectly portrayed the emotions. I can’t cry, but I feel like I have to.

I’m late but I love the mindset this gives off. Hamilton is at the bar with everyone in his own mind, when the reality is he’s about to fucking die. I feel like I’d experience the same if I were him; remembering my time with everyone before we either became enemies, lost contact, or the other died. It’s very nice.

This is a great way to dramatically express how Alex always wanted more to do in life and it made me ugly cry
When I first saw the Greatest Showman and listening to this song all I could think of was Hamilton. It fits him so will. The line "It will never be enough" really reminds me of, "He will never be satisfied"
