I just did my own hair with a 3 down to a 1. I love watching haircut videos whenever I am about to get my hair cut. I rarely cut it myself from scratch though.
Nice job. I think it might be better to take the #2 over the crown, though maybe it looked ok at the crown once he showered. Bruce is lucky to have you to cut his hair. Being a pragmatist, like you say Bruce is, I keep a similar cut and have for decades. I have to pay for a haircut like that every two weeks. When my sons were young, they kept short hair, and I cut it for them (and most of their friends) for years--even in college.
You do a nice job of tapering sides. Looks like he has a good hair texture, but if he grows it out longer it might have to be quite long as his crown might be problematic. Wow, a junior in HS already. Time does fly along.

I agree regardless of age! This is the haircut he wants though. I would rather him have longer hair but he doesn’t want to deal with it. I get that.
