Edinburgh is very underrated by most people imo. It's a top uni especially internationally, has a decent nightlife (Glasgow is also a 30-40 min train away) and there's so much to do in the city. It even has a decent beach which is a 15 min cycle on a boris bike from the centre. There's also a really good mix of English, Scottish and international students and lots more Europeans, Americans etc than most UK unis.
There’s boris bikes in edinburgh??
@@hollolhapeelol9987 More commonly referred to by locals as the Just Eat Bikes but aye
i went there on holiday and came back a few days ago. the night view is incredible, you could keep walk around for miles and still be surprised. the thing is, tons of edinburgh uni students are on the streets of the city asking around for cigs and stumbling around drunk. i think i was asked about 5 times. you were just surrounded by them and it felt kinda uncomfortable. however, i dont know much about the actual education in the uni. there's not many international students. 95 percent of the time it was just scottish students. but yes the beach is near and it is all really beautiful for going out.

So thus he's still succumbing to the elitism. University prestige and ranking does not matter and this whole league table BS in the UK needs to be eradicated already - it's so outdated, alongside Oxbridge which needs to just be abolished as an undergraduate university system altogether.
@@_Wakaz_ I agree. People tend to retcon something as "I was just joking" or "being ironic" when they put things like this out in the world and realize how utterly moronic their original content was.

YES
Title of the video should be my friends at different Russell Group Universities 😅
I’m in my final year of Chem at Manchester and completely agree with you about the community, there isn’t really much of one because the Uni is too big!
That's a shame because I was really interested in Manchester due to the Politics and Sociology course and wanted quite a quiet place to study and a small academic community. I guess I'll have to look elsewhere now like St. Andrews or Cambridge, which are universities I am not so confident about but have tight-nit communities and cosy academic space.
I have to disagree, Manchester is smaller than UCL. I’ve found there to be a fantastic community within UoM, everyone’s friendly, and I see a lot of familiar faces. I guess it varies for different people?? I don’t know.
@@_Wakaz_ Manchester is fantastic, best decision of my life honestly. It has a fantastic national and international reputation, the nightlife is amazing, and really easy to make friends. However it is more of a city culture, so perhaps not what you’re looking for. The university itself though is like a peaceful village.
@@alexthompson2087 for me I didn’t have a great time at Manchester, and seemed like a lot of academics don’t really care much and can be difficult to thrive academically. It is one of the best unis in the U.K. but doesn’t feel that way to me when there. There’s a reason it’s scored quite low for student satisfaction this year
@@sophieday-riley230 Interesting. Still, I’ve had a very positive experience, as did most of my classmates/people I’ve spoken to. Obviously, kind of excluding coronavirus because that just drastically impacted everyone’s experience. At university level, it may not always feel like academics “care” so much because of the volume of students, and nature of teaching. University involves being an independent learner. But there should always be people at hand for advice and support. For me lecturers are talented, passionate and make things easy to interpret, although I ask further questions when needed, it’s more so my tutors/support staff that help on a personal level, and that’s the norm.
If you base your University choice on the ranking system and what seems more prestigious, rather than what course you like the most, what courses modules get you excited to do them and what career paths that course can give you then you are missing the point of a good education.
point isnt just a good education mate
Imperial all the way for me. My first job was in an IT company in NY. I stayed there for a year and a half and moved back to London. This work experience allowed me to get a better contract by far compared to some friends that stayed in London after graduation. My next stop and where I would like to settle for good is in Zurich (a great place, lots of opportunities, and closer to my country).
What did you study at imperial?
@@husseinmohamud6506 Mathematics and Computer Science
How did you get the opportunity to do the job in NY?
The emphasis British students put on university prestige and ranking is embarrassing. We live in such a sad country when you think about it - and barely any students call it out, which makes that even sadder; this kind of elitism that permeates our system only makes the mental health crisis stronger, but also creates rampant inequality and lack of oppurtunities for students who don't make it to Oxbridge. In Canada, New Zealand, Australia, China, Japan, and all of Europe outside of the UK, students don't have to worry about their futures based on what university they get into on higher education high school/secondary school results day 😭

Hi. Is the University if York a good place to study literature related courses for masters and PhD?
I went to Birmingham and it was good. Student life is easy there. Campus is nice, average rent is fairly cheap, transport is good, lots of nice places to go nearby the student areas, lots of places to eat well, and plenty of housing that's really close to campus (which saves you a LOT of time and money because it's so walkable). I'm going to York for my PhD and my first impressions were that transport was good and the city seems nice. I think the campus is uglier than Birmingham's, but I'll spend most of my time inside the buildings not staring at them, and the insides seemed cushy 😸 hopefully it'll be a nice time!
Edit: after a few months living in York, I can't honestly say I'd recommend it. Pros: safe, reasonably walkable, nice restaurants and cafes, peace and quiet, campus has sweet, beautiful wildlife. Cons: EXPENSIVE AS HELL! I'm paying £30 more per week in rent than I was in Birmingham, more than that actually because bills aren't included. What I'm paying seems to be pretty standard. Rent alone costs nearly half my stipend. I can't imagine how the undergraduates are managing. Lack of superstores: want a decent and affordable range of food? Too bad, the nearest big Sainsbury's is a mile away, depending where you live the Aldi is half an hour away which is not something you want with heavy groceries. The closest supermarket is a Waitrose, because of course it is. Not the greatest range of food on campus. The drivers are genuinely terrible here, I was honestly shocked, especially since I thought Birmingham would be worse. I was wrong. I don't understand because the roads themselves are okay here. People are just extremely impatient and sloppy. City centre on weekends, no, the amount of people makes me feel a bit ill. And last but not least, some old woman decided to call me a bitch because...she didn't like my facial expression???? Never met such rude, horrible people in my life.
Hi .. there .. what was your subject in UoB ?
@@anwesamanna2811 I did biochem

I mean the most stable idea of "best universities" rather than "most fun" universities has to be Big 5 - Ox, Cam, Imperial, UCL, and LSE. I understand how LSE could go into B tier based on nightlife etc (despite best career prospects in UK, surpassing even Ox) but really not how UCL fits into C tier.
I’d personally put Manchester in place of LSE. But it is subjective, and depends which rankings you give most weight to.
the big 5 is mainly by prestige tho, and there is no chance Manchester is more prestigious than LSE. Just look at the international presence of manchester compared to lse or the application to intake ratio
@@alexthompson2087 no offence but that bullcrap, no one in their right mind would put Manchester above LSE.
@@harveypraz7962 agree but LSE are nothing but bunch of broke ass crying for getting a sale side job, what a pity lmao

Cause I'm deciding which university to go to, I got offers from Manchester for Climate Change, Durham for Sociology, Leeds for International Relations, and Global Governance & Diplomacy.

For the sake of the friendlinest people, I prefer UCL but KCL is wow. I find KCL is more grande and based on my experience I had balance life as well. My campus society used to throw drink event every thursday night and sometimes followed by boat parties and formal parties. I went to Bristol's sibling uni, UWE, and had a lovely time. Great academics, good campus, close to Bristol, and absolutely no pretension. It's a good, honest uni with character and charm, and I received a lovely education (Eng lit, 2.1) and was good friends with students and lecturers. UWE recently cracked the world's top 500 unis, and I expect it will crack the top 200 some day, maybe top 100 if it improves its academics. (UWE's law and robotics departments are world-leading, and the teaching with given a Gold by Teaching Excellence Framework.)
I agree with you , I recently applied UWE for robotics since it was highly recommended for robotics. It has so many facilities but sadly according to QS world ranking it was #800. To be honest UWE should be on the top 100s.
@@dulanabandara3769 Shame QS doesn't highly rate UWE. I got my rankings from Wikipedia.
To be fair, sometimes unis can be generally good but have amazing specific degrees. Same goes for amazing unis that have decent degrees. The best British uni for robotics is UWE, so it would be better to go there than say Cambridge or Oxford if they offer said degree.
UWE is a phenomenonal unversity and is one of the best in the country even if it isn't Russel Group. Same with Aberystwyth. Lucky you! I’m going to uni next year and I’m so scared cause literally everything revolves around drinking and I can’t drink cause of a health condition so I’m fucked. Being around drunk people when your sober is the worst thing in the world yet that’s like the only way you make friends in freshers? Not looking forward to it to say the least
Some thoughts in reply to your comment; I've been planning what I'm doing in Freshers week as someone who doesn't drink and there are some events where it's alcohol free or there are mocktails etc. This is for Lancaster Uni however. So I think unis / student unions who plan freshers events are more aware nowadays that not everyone drinks so they'll probably be offering some events. However peer pressure is another thing but it's really no one's business what you can't put in your body for your own health so disregard and keep a safe distance from those who give you shit for it. Besides, who can tell the difference between a lemonade and vodka lemonade? Finally, I think it might differ between unis. A big uni in a big city (think Birmingham, London unis, Manchester) is going to have a lot more clubs etc than a smaller uni in a rural or smaller city, (eg: Lancaster, Aberystwyth). So drinking culture differs between unis.
@@beomgguks970 Thankyou for this reply it’s made me feel better knowing there’s others like me and that there’s options!
@@lottiee964 no problem! besides, when going through the UCAS process and choosing your unis sometimes they display contact information for student union reps who will know better than anyone else about non-alcohol events, and you can always look around on the studentroom and contact universities themselves. :)

Considering that I plan to pursue a master's degree in the UK and currently have offers in Computational Science from the University of Glasgow and Software Engineering from the University of Southampton, how should I choose? Do you have any friends who can provide feedback? I am more concerned about the learning experience and employment opportunities
a little disappointed on Leeds uni not being included, because it's the reason I watched the video so I assume it's the one missing. Anyone know where they would rank it?
As someone who grew up in Bristol, I can comfirm that The University of Bristol is very clique-y and UWE is a far better place to go for good people, and the education is great too.
Same as in Northern Ireland: QUB is a bit snobby in some subjects. Ulster University is an overall better place to go most of the time (I went to both).
LOL the way I logged out as soon as he put UCL in the “C” category 😂. UCL literally has the BEST balance of academics and nightlife/fun! Student loans help with the higher cost of living (the same as any London Uni). I had the BEST TIME OF MY LIFE there and everyone that went there says the same. Dude if none of your friends go there, better yet, if you’ve never been there then I’m really confused... C?? Loool. When else in your life will you ever be able to pay cheaper rent from normal (as students it’s highly subsidised), living in the CENTRE OF LONDON?? UCL is the reason that LONDON will always be my favourite City in the World. Even the location is bomb! Like literally Oxford Street (if you’re like me and love fashion) is on your doorstep. When I was at UCL it was the 4th best Uni in the World and every London nightclub is literally spitting distance away if you’re into that. Our societies and our balls for example are AMAZING, like seriously! It really was the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS! U-C-L!
you’ve given me hope i just want you to know😭🙏🏾💕
You are just being biased because that's your school. We all do that, understable. But maybe it's really a C school.
Whatever Anakin. Go play with some sand. 😂
so many people who went there say it's the best uni ever!
@@user-si3jr3nn7o it issssss!!! 🙈 it was one of the best times of my life to be honest (aside from having my baby boy 😊)
Is no one gonna talk about the painting on the wall that’s practically falling off-?
good insight thanks
Better to go to a uni which isn't elitist and cares more about the student than their ranking
I also went to York. Graduated in 2017. Derwent ftw! Also went to Manchester for my masters and felt York was a better university better in almost every way. Though the masters experience was very different so can't compare 1:1.
hey! what did you do your masters in?
Im considering master at Man. May i ask what were the things you dont like?
Derwent scum 😭
I got into both Kings and Birmingham but UoB seems more pleasant ngl.
Does anyone know which UCL accommodation is the most fun and popular? I neeeed advise!
Man really put Manchester below Exeter
Calling Manchester a “town” says it all… this ‘ranking’ is ass🤣
Can anyone suggest me a good and affordable uni for public health. Please.
😂 Alright for real, how is Uni Glasgow? Anyone have any suggestions?
what about Leeds uni?
Dylan’s reasons for ranking Russell group unis:
Pros : “A lot of girls that my mates fancy on tinder go to this uni”
Cons : “Not a fan of the logo”
😂😂😂😂😂
Ngl you’ve done a lot of unis dirty here. Great vid nonetheless 👍
LMAOOOO, dw i shall rectify this on tuesday at 7pm!
Guys My sister got an offer From Warwick, Manchester Alliance, Bath, Lancaster, Cranfield, Durham which one shud she join for MIM so that she get good job oppurtunity after her graduation
Not me thinking this was gonna be based purely on academics
Where's the University of Leeds?
Ayy I just know Dylan will get abused in the comments from uni students and their rankings😂
you was right bro....
If you were planning to do MBA Finance to get on to a banking and finance career, and you had to select from Anglia Ruskin, Coventry, and Nottingham Trent University, Which one would you go for?
Aru
Can someone give me an opinion on whether to choose Manchester or Warwick for international students, I’llstudy MSc Management. I am interested in teaching quality (is exam hard?), career support, and the reputation in the international market. Thanks in advance!
Warwick is better
University of Birmingham 👍🏼🇬🇧
Lol Imperial is basically like MIT but in the UK... why C
Someone please suggest a uni to go for, got an admit from Queens Belfast, York, Liverpool, Surrey and Glasgow...
I'm at Liverpool rn and loving it
How about the university of Brighton? Is it good for foreign students??
Putting Bristol as a C is criminal mate
I'm currently studying at York. Would rate it a B or C.
What is it like in the context of being Muslim there? (Assuming you're from your name no offense)
@@greenprofile5755 ye i study there too, barely any muslims and the people there arent as knowledged on islam and other cultures as i thought so. its a good uni tho
@@suzanneghadban564 I’m hoping to start my freshman there next year but I’m from America. Do you have any advice?
@@greenprofile5755 what part of their name suggested to you that they had a specific religion?
in my opinion: cambridge, oxford, imperial, LSE, UCL, king's, edinburgh, manchester, warwick, the first 9 unis are denifitely in this ranking in my opinion, and i don't know about other unis but... if you got offer from any of these 9 , you probably won't think about other unis. i dont mean other unis are not good
Facts I agree
Can somebody please explain me how collegiate work and why it is good ?
