    Just finished a complete kit. No doner parts. It was fun to build but there are a lot of little add ons you will want before you finish it. There are a ton of add ons too. If you run into anything feel free to hit me up or use the forums. It was about 6 months of build time but we had the car in body and paint for almost a year. Took about 1 month to finish it up after that. So we ordered it in Nov 2019 and finished it in May 2021.

    I’m on board with everyone, and I’ll be tuned in.
    I also toss the idea of building one of these kits. I go back and forth between this MK4 and the pickup.
    Good luck

    Curious, what's your budget look like? What are you trying to keep the total cost to? I'm still in the planning stage of my build. Looking forward to your videos👊

    • @jawindustries
      @jawindustries 3 года назад +4

      I’m building this one for a customer. So his budget is going to be slightly different as he’s paying to have it built vs building himself. Car budget wise we’re trying to get it be between $30-$40k. I know this is a spread but there’s still some things up in the air and I’ve never built a Factory Five before so I want to make sure I leave a little for things I don’t know about. Feel free to ask as many questions and I’ll try and give answers the best I can. Unboxing and donor car video coming soon.

    I’m planning to order the complete kit and installing a LS motor with the IRS rear end. Looking forward to your build/s.

    • @jawindustries
      @jawindustries 3 года назад

      I think that sounds like a good combination. I might try an LS at some point. So much smaller compared to the overhead Ford engines. I think for packaging it’s probably much easier to work with.

      Do you know if it’s possible to use a good old fashioned small block Chevy 350?

    • @jnsfrahm
      @jnsfrahm Год назад

      @@spurcrawler249 you can fit just about any engine in this car. The issues with using a SBC is the headers and engine mounts. You will have to source those yourself. This car doesn’t use a factory car header..

    You mention you’ve built some other cars. What were they? I’m looking for “first build” advice. FFR shows up on that shortlist. I’m handy and comfortable with tools. But not a mechanic, and do t have any close friends that are. I’m patient and have budget- what do you think?

    • @jawindustries
      @jawindustries 3 года назад +1

      I’ve built and worked on a bunch of random vehicles. Some examples would be a 1980 Dodge D150 which was my first vehicle and first one I tried to customize. Currently rebuilding it from the ground up as well. Built a 1964 VW Bug into a Class 11 for Baja racing with another team mate of mine. 1993 HD Softail which is another rebuild from the frame up. The FFR is the first kit car I’ve done. I think anybody can do anything they want as long as they take their time and figure it out. Don’t be afraid to get some stuff wrong either.

    I have always wanted a cobra but i am not a mechanic. Would you say it is more affordable to buy the kit and have someone build it for u or should i just buy one?

    • @jawindustries
      @jawindustries 3 года назад

      I think that depends on if you are willing to spend the time and learn how to learn what is necessary to build the car. Usually if you want to save the money, it’s more affordable to build something. If you want to save the time, it’s more affordable to have someone build it.

    • @jnelliott74
      @jnelliott74 3 года назад +1

      If you are considering it. Look into the build class. We did that first and they give a ton of tips. You build one in 3 days and they take you through the whole process. Had to fly out to MI and take the coarse. It was way fun to build it though.

    Can I buy the base kit and then buy a blue print engine transmission package?

    • @jawindustries
      @jawindustries 2 года назад

      You can do that but then you will still need to buy the parts the are required from the donor for the base kit. So at the end it just makes sense to get the complete kit anyway.

    ..how much work has to be done to those bodies for a decent paint job? ...ps,..good luck with the build.

    • @jawindustries
      @jawindustries 3 года назад

      Miller Customs in Temecula, Ca, who specializes in FFRs said it would take 140hrs to do all the bodywork fitting, prep, and paint. I’m not sure how much of that is actual prep work but I would imagine a good deal of it.

      According the Ca DMV it can be registered under a Specially Constructed Vehicle registration with a Statement of Construction Form, receipts for major component parts, brake and light adjustment certificate and a smog certification.
