  • Often called the Mini Tubbataha, the Apo Reef is the second largest contiguous coral reef in the world (next only to the Great Barrier Reef of Australia) and the largest one in the Philippines. It is also in the tentative list of the UNESCO WORLD Heritage Sites.
    It is located in the western waters of Occidental Mindoro province in the Mindoro Strait.
    Sightings include sharks, turtles, moray eels, tuna, blue fin trevally, sweetlips, snappers, wrasse, etc.
    Thank you Nicolas for the aerial footage!

    Good informative post, lots of prices & descriptions. Hope to return to the Philippines later in the year & found your info' very useful, which I'll probably use to put business the way of the companies you mentioned. I'm also puzzled as to what that "telephone" hand signal meant, wasn't in our BSAC manuals back when I was certified in the 1970's!

      Thanks Nigel. We actually did a 7th dive which is a 30 min shipwreck dive. It is also within Apo reef. Will post a video in a while. Enjoy the Philippines and I hope you subscribed!

    Amazing. Thank you for sharing an informative video. Do you recommend having a rental car or just hire drivers every stop if we start in Puerto Galera?

      Unfortunately I do not have info on the option of hiring at every stop. We brought our own cars for convenience, as we have all our dive gears and camera with us. It would be too cumbersome to transfer from one transport to another. Enjoy Puerto Galera and Apo Reef!

    Nice informative dive video.
    This 'gangsta' 'I'm holding a telephone' signal. Is this a real PADI thing? Or have they made it up? I'm BSAC, it's not one of ours!!

      Thanks for the positive comment. Not sure of the certifying agency of our European friends but they were having a great time😁

      I'm hoping to dive the Philippines later in 2024 & being a 1970's trained diver & also wondered what that u/w hand signal meant! Topside "gangsta" signals are meaningless to me!

      @@nigelhaines404 😂😅🤣We're getting old Nigel! I'd love to take my old Spiro twin hose and get them to share on a 20m ascent!? Or give the signal 'I can't pull my reserve'!!

    how deep is the diving there?

    • @scubadad
      @scubadad  8 месяцев назад

      My max depth in one of the dives is 32m. Max depths on the other dives are between 25 to 27m. We had a tech diver in the group who went deeper. A lot of interesting things to see even at shallower depths. The area is literally covered with corals. Hope you enjoyed and subscribed to my channel.

      I am planning on getting open water and advanced open water diver i March of 25. I was thinking of doing it out of Duan, One of the Dive resorts there. Do you think that is a good area for a new diver or could you recommend another place in the Philippines?

    • @scubadad
      @scubadad  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@redroses209 where are you based? Is it Dauin? Dauin is mostly for macro diving with lots of sand and muck. I am from Manila and my closest dive site is anilao. In Anilao expect more corals. Lots of resorts offering dive courses in both areas.

      I was thinking of getting open and advanced open within the first week I am there and then signing up for one of the liveaboards for a whole week. Out of Puerta Princessa. Do you have any recommendations
      for shops to do the dive courses at?@@scubadad

      @@redroses209 Just make sure to keep on diving before your liveaboard. The first 20 dives will be a lot of adjustments in terms of managing your bouyancy, gears, etc. When in the liveaboard, stick close to the DM/ guide. Most importantly, have fun.
