When I saw you were about to cry while nursing Murphy my heart went out to you! Sleep deprivation is so brutal. It's used as a method of torture for a reason! To an outsider it is super obvious that you are a great mom. So much of social media is toxic because it sets up unrealistic expectations for new parents about what having a baby is really like. Guaranteed that while those other moms might look like they have it together (makeup done, hair nice, etc.), there's always something going on behind the scenes that they don't talk about (shitty marriage, are in massive debt, mental health problems, yadda yadda). No one has a perfect life or a perfect baby, no matter what they try to present. You are doing the world a service by keeping it real. I'm certain lots of new parents will watch this video and feel better knowing they are not alone. Anyway, I love your videos and just hang in there!

I’ve been LOVING your content. Reminding me of the newborn stage. I am currently almost in my second trimester and also have a 21 month old & man I forgot about how bad the sleep deprivation is! But it’s so raw & real. Even at 21 months I 80% of the time still wear comfy clothes and just do skincare & minimal makeup.. even when we go to activities bc #momlife. You’re seriously the only YT channel I’ve seen who really shares the real & raw & I am LOVING IT! finally someone I can relate too! Thank you for this. Also, deff don’t feel like you have to entertain your little one 24/7. It’s good for her to learn how to play solo or just chill! As she gets older it’s a great skill to have so you can actually get ready & do house chores. I’m also a SAHM & lemme tell you it’s so helpful just to have SOME time. Keep up the content ❤

It’s great to let her explore the world on her own. You have a safe environment and she’s content so it’s perfectly fine to take a break or get stuff done in those times. Then you’ll be refreshed and give even more when you come back to her. For example you’ll have the energy for a walk or an outing. If it’s full on 100% of the time you’ll naturally conserve energy and just do less, if that makes sense. Also, for her, the world is brand new, so even the sounds of you doing dishes, laundry, vacuuming or listening to something is learning for her. I think you’ll be better off and be able to give more of yourself to her if you take even 30 minutes to just watch a show or enjoy a coffee and let her do her thing while she’s content.

Poor Baby! It’s terrible to do without sleep! Beverly and I watched your delivery blog and this one….she was blown away at your bravery! Love all of them even if I haven’t commented on all.

Hi Shelby! My oldest son is 22 years old now and I will NEVER forget how tough it was during his first year. He only slept 2-3 hours at a time and I remember being so tired that my teeth actually hurt :( The fact that you are thinking about (and questioning) if you are doing enough and doing everything right just shows what a great mom you are and how much you care! I still remind my 2 sons- remember that this is my first time being alive too! Lol. You are doing an amazing job! Hugs!

Don't put so much pressure on yourself! Love you so much!

Everything you're describing was also my reality. I felt so isolated because nobody talks about it and it's not what you see online. I've come to the conclusion that everyone else is lying. 😆 Or maybe they don't want to scare new moms. You're doing great! From one anxious newborn mom to another, I have become much less anxious as time has gone on. Love you!

I so know the sleep struggle now that I have a 5 week old. Idk how yall are doing it all by yourself. We ended up moving in with my parents for help. But my girl sleeps best next to us (which I know, isn’t great) but one thing you can do is get the FDA approved Owlet sock so you can have more peace of mind and get more sleep for yourself. It’s a game changer! Also - I was exactly like you before even having a baby - super anxious, following all the rules, etc. I got help from a psychiatrist for my anxiety and take a super low dose medicine and it’s changed my life. Maybe look into doing that for yourself! It has really made me a better person and so much less stressed.

36:21 Girl that’s why I watch your vlogs! You keep it so real. I love that. All my friends who are moms wear sweatpants and a sports bra or t shirt most of the time with their hair in a bun 😂❤ But you guys are getting the job done and nobody can take care of your babies as best as you can! ❤ You are strong and I hope to be as strong and driven as you one day! I am also a really anxious person. Lol Also, I don’t mind the long vlogs at all! Lol

Aww Shelby big hugs 🤗. You are an amazing Mama. It will improve I promise your doing all the right things, never doubt yourself. Yes absolutely it’s fine to let Murphy just sit in her bouncer or lay on her back to entertain herself whilst you fold washing or ironing as long as you can see her. You don’t need to constantly entertain her yourself all the time they will be just happy to play independently obviously not all the time but it encourages independence and help them to figure things out. You are keeping it real girl you really are of what it’s like to be a mom especially a first time parent it’s a learning curve, you will find a way together just hang in there. Try and rest when your little one naps if you possibly can. Sending you lots of love xxx 🥰💗🥰

I’m super anxious and I like to plan everything, best advice is have no expectations when doing stuff with children, that way it always feels like it’s going well and you don’t get frustrated or disappointed. 😅 Also for me it’s easier the older they get 👍🏼 and I enjoy it more and more.

Although I hate to see anyone cry, thank you for sharing the clip at 27:52. I also cried yesterday, with my daughter, as she fought a nap sooo hard. She loves her pacifier to get to sleep but also loves yanking it out of her mouth and trying to get it back in (unsuccessfully)?? It’s hard. We’re just doing the best we can. On a side note, I was recently told by a doula that hosts a local mom’s group that 5.5 hours at night (uninterrupted) is what we need to strive for at the bare minimum. She shared that if we don’t get 5.5 hours on a semi regular basis, the odds of postpartum depression and psychosis skyrocket. I found that interesting and shocking. It makes sense though, because I cry so much more and faster when I don’t have quality sleep. Murphy will get there! I have hope! Hang in there. ❤

I just got to the end of the video regarding entertaining her. I HIGHLY recommend this book: “caring for infants with respect” by Magda Gerber. It changed my perspective! No tummy rime and limited/or no use of restrictive seats (bouncers, swings, etc).

& thank you for sharing THIS! Being a mom is so challenging but we love our babies so much at the same time. They always say it’s only hard if you’re trying to be a good parent 💕💕

The four month sleep regression will pass! My babe is almost the same age as yours and she is having similar sleep stretches. I asked my IBCLC the same questions you had about bottling versus nursing etc. she mentioned that sleeping 6 -8 hours is considered a full stretch for them. We do exactly the same as you for play time. Maybe do a contact nap if that works for your household during this huge developmental leap so that you can have a minute to breathe. Give yourself grace!! You got this mama!

I am an extremely type A/anxious person and your couch monologue is literally me every single day. Also independent play is just as important as everything you do (tummy time, books etc). So her doing it for short periods of time will be good

I always let my baby chill for as long as she’s happy on the floor and don’t push tummy time, they learn to entertain themselves and become very strong. A happy mama is a better mama 😉 you are doing great ❤ you deserve to do things that make you feel good 👍🏼 I never got ready to be home, just showered 😅😂

With your babygirl not sleeping much at night, just give it time ma. It's only temporary. Remember that " only temporary " just take advantage when she takes those long naps, sleep with her. F*uk everything else.

Shelby maybe its time to sleep train her. Here are some signs that your baby is ready for sleep training. Found this online maybe it can help. Not trying to give advice just thought maybe it would help . Shelby when she is content that is your time to do what you need to do don't feel you need to constantly do so much, Now yes if she cries check on her and see to her needs but if she's been taken care of then continue your time and do your things. See it this way Shelby if your not taking care of yourself how will you be there for her if and when she really needs you? You have to make sure to give Shelby good care too.
Signs your baby is ready for sleep training?
    Your baby is 12+ lbs
    Increased night wakings
    Breaking out of the swaddle
    Outgrowing the swaddle
    Starting to suck hands

Thank you so much for leaving this comment! I definitely plan on implementing sleep training once she’s anywhere from 4-6 months & when I can tell she’s ready for it. We’re already getting her set up for it so it won’t be such a huge change when we go full on 🤍🤍
