  • Bruce Roberts Memorial Gig - the 1865 Club
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Thursday the 24th of March 2016, friends family and fellow musicians gathered to celebrate the life and music of Mr. Bruce Roberts.
The evening was organised by Johnnie Wands, Emma & Lucy Roberts and the great people of the 1865 club, and a line up of local musicians was assembled to send Brucey off in style.
This video features the fantastic photography of Helen Trimarco Ransome and some great live video action captured by Pat "Yum" Othen, mixed together with a live recording of Bruce Roberts & "The Love Pumps" at the Brook Southampton from around 1998.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The video footage shows performances from :
Rick & Gerry Hearn (Bass & Guitar)
    Mark Angel (Drums)
    Rob Gorman (Bass)
    Wally Phillips (Vocals)
    Chris Shakespeare (Vocals)
    Nettle (Vocals)
    Ronnie Taylor (Saxophone)
    Roger Chantler (Drums)
    *(please help me to complete)

Oh my, moved to Cyprus in 2006, Bruce played at 3 gigs to wish me farewell, but due to holdups, I could not go. On the last one, he said and I quote "Now are you going to fuck off"?? Loved you fella, you remember I travelled all over to see you. God rest your soul.

Bruce played in a group called White lightning with an old mate Jerry hearn. Probably got the spelling wrong but also festa and the vomits. I remember them playing in the mucky duck and London Arms in Woolston Southampton UK 🇬🇧

That's Jerry playing in most of the video there. He could have made the effort to learn some of Brucies originals for this gig, Just sayin' :-). And I moved to Southampton in 84 or so, caught the end of his residency at Mado's wine bar with Fester & the vomits. Fester was their drummer. What a venue. Shame it got raided as dealers took the piss by doing it too openly. Shut down after that.

Is it in that band Gordon Haskell and Martin Smith (former & original Gentle Giant drummer) played in early 1995?
