Many years ago I walked into our local wine shop. I had never bought a bottle of wine so I asked the store manager to help me find a Cabernet Sauvignon. He asked me why a Cab. I explained because I don't know much about wine and that seemed to be what I always heard someone mention when talking about wine. He asked me if I would consider a different grape and began to explain the Beaujolais villages to me. I was intrigued by his explanation of the wines from each village and ended up starting with a Cru from Moulin a Vent the king of the villages. From there on to the Queen which was Flurie and so on. I had an absolute blast compairing each village and trying to understand wine and the terms associated with the wine wolrd. I still like to try the new wine in November as it reminds me of where my roots started many years ago.
Great video! Great information. I am enjoying a bottle of the Georges Duboeuf Beaujolaas Nouveau. I am not able to taste the Beaujolais Villages Nouveau nor the Rose where I live. I wish I could!
It's a shame. They're not that different though. The rosé is a fun and interesting experience, but it's not like you're missing out on a huge thing. Hope you get next year :-) THanks for stopping by J.
@@jeffpike8523 Cool. Hope you enjoy it. It's nothing extremely special, but i think something a little different. Let me know what you thought when you get to taste it. Cheers :-)
I'm glad that you corrected your English because a "retchly" flavored wine is not as desirable a "richly" flavored one. thanks for your informative videos.
@@RUclipsJulien sadly, it means to try to vomit. Definitely not how a wine should taste. I'm sure this was accidental. FYI I couldn't even form a sentence in French, so you're doing great. And, again, thanks for your videos, I learned a lot about nouveau Beaujolais this time.
@@georgeb.wolffsohn30 merci. Well, English might be a little easier to learn than French. Or is it? Maybe i demonstrated it isn't. Anyways. Glad we share the same will to understand wine 😀🥂 Santé
Yay! Just got my stock...and I am ready! Stopped at the wine store on my way home from work. It is so fun!🍷🍷🍷 Did not know about the rose either...I have not seen it...but I am in a small town Btw...the label in the us is different! I love the one you have! The villages was not available...I have had it before and I liked it very much
I thought the label was a US thing. I've asked Duboeuf for confirmation but I suspect that's what it is... Yes, it's a fun celebration for wine lovers. Enjoy your Beaujolais. What did you think of the rosé?
HI there. I see what you're saying. They're simple wines. Fun to have something a little different and celebrate the new wine, but nothing outstanding in terms of flavors and things. See answers from and to Christopher in another comment here. In short, you can have BN up until New Years to get the whole freshness of the fruity character, but all winter will be fine too, and it won't turn sour after that either, just won't be as fruity and more like a normal affordable Beaujolais.
If you can find a wine shop that has what we use to call a "closeout bin", in other words they had a basket in which they are selling wines that nobody bought and they are still hanging around the store and being sold cheap, see if you can find a bottle of last years Nouveau. Buy it and cool it off in the fridge. Not fridge temperature, just cool, and try it. If you can't find a bottle that's a year old, buy a bottle and cellar it for a year. It will be just fine to drink and it certainly will not have "turned to vinegar".
I had a fun little Nouveau party. We poured a great flight of Beaujolais from the nouveau all the way up through a villages and ended with a Morgon Cru.
Excellent Kurt! There are certainly loads of excellent red wines in Beaujolais beyond the Nouveau too, enough be enjoyed all year round for sure. Glad you enjoyed. Tx for stopping by 👍🍷😀
I enjoyed the 2019 Nouveau I had with our Thanksgiving Dinner but it unexpectedly lacked the typical Nouveau "Banana" nose. Not a bad thing. Maybe a good thing. Slight hint of menthol but not banana.
I suspect Beaujolais Nouveau producers, at least some of them, may have moved away from certain selected yeast strains that produce a lot of isoamyl acetate (the banana smell/flavor). They were using some of those strains that produce a lot of esters, but because sales have gone down and their trying to premiumize the beaujolais Nouveau a little, they probably favor strains that are a little less impacting on the wine, less obviously fruity. That's probably why they don't smell of banana much anymore. Everyone expects that strong banana and kind of mocked BN a little for that, so I suspect they're trying to correct that image a little. Does that sound plausible?
Good thinking Andrew. Being French I hadn't really thought of it, but i can see how it'd work perfectly. It's a pretty versa3wine as well, and one that pleases most palates as it's approachable and fruity. Enjoy 🍷

aren't BN wines meant to be drunk immediately? up to how many months before it turns to vinegar? tried it several years ago and not my cup of tea

Beaujolais Nouveau! Tastes absolutely GREAT!!!
Agreed 👌🍷 cheers John
Not much info on how long can be drunk everywhere says as young as possible but actually how long can be kept?
I'd say a year or two, it might lose a little freshness and fruit, but should be fine 2-3years, around there
Thanks Julien ! More questions answered.
