In this video I react to Australian comedy from Australian television comedy sketch show Fast Forward and their parody comedy sketch of the Australian television show Sale of the Century.

I back that up. I had 4 Channels. 7, 9, 10 and ABC. We sat together as a family and watched the comedy shows and had a laugh. Aussie culture in the late 80 and 90s was awesome- funny, carefree and cheeky yet somewhat wholesome and family friendly. Everybody at school knew about Eric Banner’s ‘Pwoiter’ character from Full Frontal do the other kids were watching with their parents too.

The original was almost mandatory viewing when I was kid. It was hosted by a bloke called Tony Barber then later on by a bloke called Glenn Ridge. The female co-hosts were Alyce Platt, Delvine Delany and probable some others I can't remember. They're taking the piss out of Jana Wendt who was a hard hitting journalist in the day and Joh Bjelke-Petersen a Queensland politician who spoke in word salads and was about as straight as a dogs hind leg.

YES. This was one of my favourite Fast Forward sketches. Gerry Connelly was a brilliant satirical impersonator and absolutely nailed Joh Bjelke-Petersen, one of the more corrupt windbags/brownbags to enter a parliament building. Jana Wendt's interview with him was the stuff of legends, as was this and another Fast Forward sketch parodying that interview.

His govt was corrupt as all get-out, and it was a delight to vote them out in 1989 😊 Fast Forward was pretty much essential viewing in the late 80s-early 90s. Joh used to refer to press conferences as "feeding the chooks". As the state member for Kingaroy and Premier of Queensland he was hugely polarising - hated by the left and loved by the right. Unashamedly pro-development and anti-unionist he is derided as a corrupt buffoon, yet the state of Queensland prospered massively under his reign. Jana Wendt on the other hand was the pre-eminent female journalist of her era - her mellow, monotone presentation style was often mimicked but not her journalistic integrity or ability - this lady smashed the glass ceiling when it came to women in journalism.

Great parody. Joh Bjelke Peterson was a [questionable!] 'great' politician, who was the Premier of Queensland Australia from 1968 to 1987. He was well known for never answering any question put to him, but just talked a bit of nonsense, and would say all the time "Don't you worry about all that"; meaning, I think, for everyone to just shut up and let him get along with doing his job without questioning him at all. Those years happened to be a time of quite good economic growth for Qld- don't know if we can put all or any of the congratulations for that on his head. The other characters - host Tony Barber was a well known game show host back them, and was a little exuberant, as portrayed. Jana Wendt was a famous reporter who appeared on lots of current political news shows, known for never appearing at all flustered by anything, very smart woman who knew her stuff. Thats my view anyway!

My Mum went on the show, waited for years. Sir Johannes Bjelke-Petersen just known as ‘Jo’ was a Christian nut job conservative QLD premier who, just like Bob Katter (a current MP up in my nick of the woods, Cairns), he’d do some good things for Qld and some really stupid things. I remember in the 90’s I was in high school and condom vending machines were well established post Aids campaigns. Jo had them banned for a period..
Jana Bohumila Wendt (pronounced Yana Vent in Ausie), is actually a relative of mine. She’s a famous journalist and reporter for some of us. She was well known on tv from 1982 to 2006 and oddly hot, many of us at school would comment on how disturbingly sexy she was but you couldn’t put your finger on it. So many parodies of her because of her dry expressionless emotionless style of interviewing.
This was funny at the time but honestly when Aussies recommend stuff for your channel it’s not always timeless.
This skit was not really at all. Jo was only really well known to Qlders my Dad’s age and Jana wasn’t funny. As for the host
    Australian TV host
Anthony Ferraro Louis Barber (aka Tony Barber) he wasn’t that hyped up I thought his rendition was over the top although yes he put out about 10 Albums, the best made it to 39th in the charts in 92.

Jana Wendt I remember well; she was on TV more-or-less daily hosting a current affairs program. Very prim and proper serious journalist and interviewer. Joh Bjelke-Petersen has some reputation as a lunatic politician who held office over the State of Queensland for decades, but I only ever really learned about him decades later. Party-room drama and political controversy surrounded him always, and maybe there was some suggestion he was gaming the electoral system to stay in power as long as he did? But I'm not well-informed.

Classic take on the Premier of Qld at the time (a corrupt right-wing National Party politican) who was able to hold onto government by a massive gerrymander. His party rarely got more than 20% of the popular vote but somehow managed to get the majority of seats every election. This went on for decades. His downfall happened mid 1980s when the Fitzgerald inquiry into state corruption revealed Jo Bjelke Petersen to be heavily involved and apparently received regular donations (brown paper bags full of cash) from his developer mates etc. Unbelievable but true!

Yes, Tony Barber, the host, would come bouncing out. Obviously the skit was a gross exaggeration. The first person was an audience member. The second was a parody of Jana Wendt, who had a current affai show and was very self-contolled and carefully-spoken and quietly glamorous. The guy was supposed to be a former Premier of Queensland, Sir Joe Bjelke Petersen, who spoke exactly like that and was an appalling man. All the roads around his country property in the middle of nowere were beautifully-paved and cared for while most of the roads in Qld were terrible. He was a crook and far right wing. When he said the "great Temptation game", he was referring to the predecessor which had been sponsored by Coles supermarkets, and was called "Coles Great Temptation". About Joe - ruclips.net/video/yyzUaocj4_0/видео.html (only 2 minutes long) and this just shows very briefly the bounce in Tony Barber's step, and there are whole episodes on You Tube - ruclips.net/video/WLpnsjMivXM/видео.html (19 seconds)
