hallo I did a terrible job of proving Weight Lifting Fairy is a great drama but IT'S SO WHOLESOME AND FUNNY AND ADORABLE I LOVE IT!!!!
one of my fave dramas. i weight lift so it is nice to see other asian women lifters, especially since the role model for that character is such an amazing lifter
IT'S A GREAT DRAMA JENN!
I always go back to this drama from time to time! It’s so cute and warm❤️
Weightlifting Fairy is SO GOOD. Sometimes I don't wanna watch amnesia or revenge plots or annoying love triangles with evil, manipulative creeps... and that's okay 🌞🌻
If you want something lighthearted and warm to get you through your dark quarantine days, it is the show to watch.
jen pls watch while you were sleeping 🥺
I'm watching it's ok not to be okay now - the most atypical drama ever and the best ever
Literally my first ever kdrama and I’m dying waiting a week for new episodes😩
I didn't think I would love it as much as I do. It's so different compared to other kdramas
@@khavinhtran I also don't have the patience to wait for the new episodes to air so I wait until all the episodes are uploaded 😂😂😂
I started watching K Dramas with "Korean Odyssey" , I got hooked then. With "It's Okay to Not Be Okay", I find that I re-watch episodes because I missed a the parallels between the animation and the story. I get hung up on the ambiguity of the chapter titles and the episode. I enjoy the director's shout outs to other K dramas and american movies, as well as Korean folklore, the play on words where Psyche can be a beautiful maiden, a butterfly, ones breath or soul -- If you watched the drama you may understand what I am getting at. I have grown to love the characters and the struggle and the definition of what is family. For this series I listen to the vlogs and the various theories on the characters. The only thing I am sad about, if your circle are not a K drama fans - you cant let it out with a good discussion - most guys are not K drama fans. So with work starting again on Monday, I hope to conquer this addiction.
I also watch kdramas because of the fashion. It's immaculate.
YESSSS
yasss the styling in hotel del luna is some of the best i’ve ever seen
@@abigailthomas7691 and IU also pulls everything off so that's a plus :')
@Michelle Hsieh lol ya IU being gorgeous doesn’t hurt 😉
It’s okay not to be okay is so good bruh
we'll be reviewing It's Okay to Not Be Okay, Itaewon Class, and Crash Landing in a bonus episode hehe
@@morewongfu yayyy so exciteddd
!!!!!!
Yes crash landing!!!
Wes should be glad that he doesn't have to wait for episodes every week. We go hard on kdramas by waiting for it to release two episodes and so on. Like Jen said the black hole pull you in deep. Lol
Love how Wes has to give a disclaimer just in case the fans 😂
I'd never heard of "Goblin" described as Asian Wolverine, but now that Wes said it.... idk, he's not wrong
I would really recommend Wes watch Prison Playbook and Signal, those two are my all-time favorite Kdramas.
Yes, SIGNAL!! Oh my life, such cliff-hangers. I can't wait for the next season.
Oh mygod! Same!!!
I highly recommend Age of Youth (Hello My Twenties on Netflix) and Because This is My First Life for anyone who likes slice of life, strong female friendships, and comforting dialogue :)
sky castle is hands down my favorite kdrama. despite being a tv show it actually was really relatable as a student in a competitive school environment. it also came out when all the college scandals were surfacing so it was so trippy to see something in the show and then a week later read a news article about the exact same thing. highly recommend!!
Wes sounded like an encouraging dad when responding to the "pitches" haha
Also, huge k-drama (and wongfu) fan here~ I watched all three:
W gave me heart attacks while Weightlifting Fairy gave me diabetes. Goblin gave me both.
Lots of love from Hong Kong
Suggestion: "Because This is My First Life". I'm sure Wes would enjoy it
Wes!! we wanna see you watching W and reacting to it!
Crash landing was definitely one of my favorite K Dramas.
Yaaaaasss I love Weightlifting fairy and Goblin! I’d also recommend Healer, Good Doctor and Splash Splash Love! They’re all completely different genres but they each have their own charm!!
Ok I was caught off guard by how well Wes articulated his definition of Kdramas.
Although as he is a student and master of film I should not have been surprised by his analysis.
A common trope I've seen in the K-drama's I've watched: there's always a time skip lol. Either in the beginning something traumatic happens, and then the drama really starts like one year later, or something dramatic happens towards the end, and then it time skips a year or two afterwards
When the pitch started I was like "Please recommend W! Please recommend W!" and W popped up and I got so exciteddddd
I was missing Wes's face. And also his interesting humour... But mostly his face 😂
My lunchbreak bias
i reallyyy recommend Crash Landing on You and It's Okay Not to be Okay
I'm almost 40 and still love Kdrama. The 90s were chessy but good. You guys have to see Sandglass. I'll admit that I stopped watching them for a while but got back into it. I finished "The Eternal King" and now watching "It's OKAY Not to be OKAY". Both on Netflix.
I loved The Eternal King
Wow are you serious that you are 40 em
I have seen all three recommendations: my favorite is Goblin although nods to W: Two Worlds for legit creeping me out more than the ghost dramas I have watched. Both Goblin and Strong Woman Dong Bong Soon are among my favorite dramas ever. Some slice of life dramas that I would recommend are Fight for My Way , Because This Is My First Life, and Romance Is a Bonus Book.
OMG thanks for having me as your +1! Also, the timing with this video is the best because I LOVE K-Dramas so I was SUPER excited to watch this video
The kdramas I've watched from beginning to end are Secret Garden, Reply 1997, Signal! ❤ Others I may have started but didn't finish :( One of my fave things from kdramas are the OSTs 🥰
It's so nice that kdramas with subs are more easily accessible nowadays (i.e. on Netflix)
Watch Itaewon Class! Such a good one, one of the best
I have to admit older OST are better on older Kdramas but they still have a good song here and there on newer ones.
I loved this video so much! I related to so much especially the dubbed videos 😂. My first drama that I remember watching in Korean was Let’s go to school Sangdoo, an early 2000 drama. I remembered sharing a room with my sister and when she watched her dramas, I would secretly watch it with her from the top bunk of our bunk bed. (I was in elementary school when she was in high school). I have watched a ton of great kdramas but my all time favorites are Autumn In My Heart, Oh My Venus, Goblin, and Fated to Love You.
I have lots to recommend but I would also recommend Goblin to Wes! The cinematography and story line is really well done. The chemistry between the actors are also great, and is an overall great drama. The writer is the known for writing the popular dramas, Descendants of the Sun, Mister Sunshine, Heirs, and more.
Gosh! Wes' face when they said the line "Do you like Messi?". hahaha. epic
so excited you guys are doing this topic!! :)
I would recommend:
Itaewon Class, Crash Lansing on you, Moon Lovers, Hotel Del Luna, Memories of Alhambra (W two world and Goblin aswell they are so good)
I LOVE ALL OF THE LADIES' RECOMMENDATIONS. A+ KDRAMAS. I ALSO RECOMMEND THOSE AS WELL.
I have watched dozens of Kdramas and my all time favorite is Healer. It's so good and it breaks every single K drama stereotype! The female lead is an awesome strong character and the male lead is NOT a jerk! Oh and the OST is amazing!
I'm American and I LOVE Kdrama! Obsessed to be honest. My daughter asked me to watch Goblin with her about two years ago and I was completely hooked. One of my all time favorites is Oh My Venus. 💞
Autumn In My Heart was my second drama! So sad! 😭
omg I love oh my Venus!! definitely in my top 5
Omg yes, I agree! There are some kiss scenes that are awkward, especially when they stay in the same position for awhile without moving a joint lol! I recommend moon lovers: scarlet heart ryeo, fight my way, crash landing on you, touch your heart, dr. romantic season 2, and psycho but it’s okay! I’ve watched a lot of kdramas but those are some of my favorites!
Hospital Playlist!!! It’s so wholesome and good
i am extremely happy to see that they put Hotel Del Luna clip in the middle, AHHHHHHH
i never saw Wes talk so much, i love it😍😂
My most recent watch was, The King Eternal Monarch. Absolutely great script, excellent cast, and the overall production is on point😊
Before I watch, I hope they discuss 'It's Okay not to be Okay' just because I'm a chick and that's the only one I've ever watched!!
The reason I've avoided kdramas in general is because, from what I've seen, I really dislike the portrayal of women I've come across often in them (but I'm not saying they're all like that, just clips I've seen), especially when it comes to having autonomy to not be "extremely scared" or "shy" when it comes to romantic/sexual stuff. Like, I understand some women are, but many are not, and that balance doesn't seem to be portrayed on screen which frustrates me and feels a little gross at times.
But, I loved this video and didn't mean to make anything negative, sorry
I still watch Kdrama but I agree that back in the day the women were so shy, quiet and didn't stick up for herself. It annoyed me. However these days there are still some good dramas with strong personality girls! For example, the girls mentioned Strong Girl Bong Soon. Love her!
my first kdrama was dae jang geum in 2003!! i watched it in canto dub on tvb. i feel like that's widely recognized as something that kicked off the hallyu wave in the 2000s.
THAT THUMBNAIL! You got me with that one. Park Seo Joon *HEART EYESSSSSS
hello this video might have gotten me a teeny tiny crush on wes,, he's so passionate about kdramas lmao truly a king
It's okay to not be okay is da BEST DRAMA ever !!!! bite me
Just gonna say this rn, *Itaewon Class.*
Thank you 😂😂
Crash landing on you got my hooooooked on kdramas... Hyun bin ❤️❤️
I’ve never watched a kdrama before but I’m intrigued to start trying some!!! I just don’t know which one to start with
The girls mentioned Strong Girl Bong Soon. It's so good! Love the character and a bit of comedy too.
"Hotel del luna" is really good
Omg if you can and are in for the deeper end please try Dae Jang Geum which is like more historial and definitely a classic! Everyone in South Korea (and i dare say most of east asia) knows about this show xD
I've been watching kdramas since 2008. And yeah the typical is rich guy meets poor girl but now I don't watch those kind. But there are still so many that are not typical.
ie. Fight for my way, when camellia blooms, reply series, my mister, misaeng, signal, sky castle, it's okay not to be okay
Yes I agree with you and Fight my way was so good, I still love that drama!! Definitely a gem!
also K2!!! Holyyyy so much political goodness
Crash landing on you!!!!!
Okay but when she said W two worlds was her favorite kdrama, I was screaming!!! I love that kdrama and automatically thought of that drama to that question! I didnt expect anyone to bring up that drama
You will not be disappointed, W is so so so so so so so great!
Healer is my favorite! 10/10 recommend. More action and thriller, but there’s also romance 🔥
Brings back memories of my first Kdrama...Coffee Prince lol
You guys, Queen for Seven Days!
brooo i think wes would really enjoy While You Were Sleeping right?!
girlll yes! watching it now and it's SOOOOO GOOOOD!
su-ting tan YESSS i watched it 6 times since it came out 😭 first by myself, then with my sister, then again with my other sister, then again by myself, then AGAIN BY MYSELF AHAHA, and then again last semester at school bc i was showing my friends 🥺🤧🤧
Kristy Nguyen love that movie!!
Bae suzy!!!
omg i just finished today sooooo goodd! ugh now i need something else to watch :00
I was introduced to dramas at the age of like 6? Autumn to my Heart was also my first drama!! Second drama was Full House. ❤ Throughout middle school I watched A LOT of Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean dramas. My absolute favorite is............
I just can't pick!
My dad and I just finished Deserving of the Name and The Heirs! He introduced me to k-dramas this summer :)
It was interesting to listen to your conversation about seeing yourself on screen. As a half-Korean, I remember watching my first K-Drama, Life is Beautiful (2010, first drama with gay main characters I think) and thinking about identifying closely with how family members interacted with each other. I felt at home. Watching American dramas/sitcoms, I'd always feel, but this isn't how my family thinks or feels, am I missing something about what families should be. I felt like a visitor in my own country's culture. After watching Life is Beautiful I realized why I felt that way and found representation in how I might think or feel.
like they briefly mentioned, not all kdramas are romance-based!! maybe that's not everyone's cup of tea so i'd like to recommend some others:
- school 2013 - it's about FRIENDSHIP and the hardships that come with being a teenager, coming of age/slice of life type of story. tears will be shed.
- suits - based on the american show, which i never watched but if you like stories about law and suspense/plot twists, this one's for you!
- my mister - this is a real heartwrenching story with an MC who is just trying to live a day at a time. don't be deterred by the ML and FL age difference bc their relationship is not what you think
Lol!!! my mom also made me watch autumn in my heart when I was a kid 😂
I really like suspense/thriller KDramas with a side of romance so City Hunter, K2 and Suspicious Partners
Hotel Del Luna 🌙
It's a little different from other kdramas.
I thought about how valuable life while watching it. Forgiveness is so important and living the life you want is something we should all strive for!
Also IU is the leading female!!! That power woman boss!!!
I loved ya'll talked about Kdramas. I was also impressed onWes input about kdramas, I think he definitely has a little better understanding of Kdramas than most people in general but Stairway to heaven is such an emotional sadistic roller coaster, lol. I have to say as a kdrama enthusiast there is much more to kdramas than romance and there is so many very strong and fierce female characters. Also not all dramas have happy endings.
this was a video I didnt know I needed XD
Wes would like Iris and City Hunter. High action and great story lines. Rooftop Prince is also a good and funny show. Also Running Man 😂
i cant wait for the Crash landing, Itaewon class, and its okay to not be okay review :)))
Omg, I just finished the "Goblin" episodes from 2016 kdrama.. and this weekend ofcourse " it's ok not to be okay"
Watching this three weeks late but when I saw the topic I knew I wanted to give it the attention it deserves.
I can see Wes as a "K-Drama" guy😍😊
It’s okay not to be okay; Mr. sunshine and when camellia blooms top 3
Mr. Sunshine!!! It’s so good 🤩🤩
I'm Caucasian and I LOVE Kdramas and Jdramas.
I started watching in my first year of uni (2005) when my friends introduced them to me (we watched dramas while everyone else got smashed at parties 😅).
My first J drama was Nobuto Wo Produce and my first K drama was Coffee Prince, but it was my 2nd kdrama that got me sucked in to kdramas which was Dong Yi!
I prefer C-dramas the plots are way better in my opinion but my favorite drama ever is Oh My Venus!! 10/10 top tier K-drama. Also recommend 99 Points Girlfriend, a Cdrama.
oh my Venus is soooo good!! where can u watch cdramas?
My top ones are Goblin (Gong Yoo forever ❤️❤️❤️), Full House (stairway to heaven levels 😄) and Reply 1988 (now this is a slice of life! I think Wes and the Wong Fu team will love this too!!!)
if y'all haven't watched The World of the Married yet, it's a MUST!!! SO good!!
I continue to watch because of the character development and the overall storytelling😊
Wes please watch crash landing on you (: great cinematography, great music and everything
Oh girl 11:44 I recommend you to watch it's okay to not be okay the kiss their is just👌
YES😄....YES😄...GOBLIN IS A MUST WATCH😍😍 (the all caps reflect my excitement)
W is my favorite K-drama! It is what brought me to K-dramas! You need to do a video of Wes at least reporting back to have watched it and his reaction! And see if he is still going to continue! W has a really good villain!
I haven’t even watched the video yet, but I know it’ll be good because of the thumbnail
chinese dramas now on netflix are also great
Wes u can watch "are you human too?" Its romcom but with scifi 👀? Yeah? Yeah? LOL
That’s what I like about kdrama is that the story ends..but the bad thing don’t get enough time to develop every character. I think American shows are really good at ensembles
Hotel de luna is an amazing drama as well
Never clicked so fast in my life
I like the fact that Wes is in this lunch break lol
Hi guys, thank you for another beautiful episode! Love this topic about Kdramas 😍👍 My recommendation would be My Mister and Hospital Playlist that I recently watched on Netflix. Both of them are like healing shows but in a very opposite ways, totally can see myself rewatch them both. Check it out!! 🥰
Do you mean medical instead of healing? (I know nothing about kdramas but I'm interested now, so many recs)
lol "WAIT FOR IT" but loved this vid ^^ THANKS GUYS
should get the Wong Fu guys and girls to share their view on K-drama stars !
I love this episode 😆
This is probably my fav episode now😆😆😆
yall need an all ladies episode!!! please!!! :)
filmed 👀
First kdrama was Iris which is an action packed drama about Korea's spy agency!! Which hooked me in and then the song was great which was by Taeyeon which then introduced me to kpop. The rest is history.
My first drama was in 2011, Coffee Prince because Hulu recommended it on a day I was home sick with the flu. That became a life changing few days of binge watching as many dramas as I could before I got well- lol it may have delayed my recovery from the flu. Anyways, kdrama led to kpop, Korean cooking, and trying to learn to speak Korean, but it also opened me up to Cdramas and Jdramas, and many other cultures I was never curious about before. Broadened my whole mind about the world and made me so much more curious.
And my all time Favorite kdrama is Faith/The Great Doctor.
goblin and W are literally my all-time #1 and 2, #3 is sky castle -- totally diff genre but just as amazing
My top 3 favorite KDramas are Angel Eyes, Ugly Alert, and My Love from the Stars, based solely on the number of times I've cried, laughed, and swooned while watching it and how great the soundtrack is. Goblin would be in my top 5 because of the leads and its awesome soundtrack.
Netflix is good! I recommend "Mr. Sunshine". Best Korean TV drama!
WE WANT AN EPISODE of Wes review!!!! 😍😍😍😪
wes, please provide commentary as you watch W!!!
Coming back to this after just finishing weightlifting fairy Kim bok Joo and I remembered this video after the first episode with Do you like Messi? Hahaha btw it's one of my fave Kdramas now!
So happy Goblin was mentioned!!! My fiance and his friend love this show. I really enjoyed it. But I am more biased with Strong Girl Bong Soon. The cheese factor was strong.
I haven't watched too many K-Dramas (too formulaic imo) but I did love Reply 1997.
You should watch 'Designated Survivor: 60 Days'!!! It's on Netflix
You should watch Reply 1988!! It is a little slower than 1997 but it focuses more on family and friends aspect but also has the who's the husband mystery
I loved Reply 1997!
Watch reply 1998!
