Spy the best way is to make a strip mine. You go down to 2above bedrock then mine out a long tunnel then come back to the start and skip one block to the left or right then dig another long tunnel and it gives you tons of resources. I hope you use this technique.
just for some hints those spiders are called cave spiders and they usually appear in mineshafts and the reason why you found them is because you were in a mineshaft and those are rare! :)
