Something I feel is underrated about Kihyun is how he knows how to switch between different types of voices and when to do so. I think a lot of singers either can’t or don’t know when to switch between having a softer, rougher, smoother, etc. voice, and Kihyun both knows how to and is able to do so. I just feel that’s underrated about him and should be pointed out.

There is something so special about kihyun all over. Not only his voice and technic are amazing but the way he deliver the song. Damn, wonho was right when he said there is no song kihyun can't sing
Vocal appreciation rant!: The thing about Kihyun's voice that a lot of people maybe don't appreciate enough is his technique! We can all hear that he's an amazing singer, but not everyone are just born amazing, it's practice and attention to detail and using your emotions when you sing. An example of technique: Kihyun has extreme control over his vibrato and breathing first of all. That makes his voice very powerful because he sings from his diaphragm rather than from his throat, giving little room for his voice to crack. His vibrato comes in here, because if you are projecting your voice, you have to be careful not to use too much "shaking" because you can damage your vocal chords/larynx over time. But also it makes your voice sound shaky or pitched rather than strong and controlled so vibrato use is a choice not a must. I've always admired Kihyun for this ability, even when he sings softly he perfects it, and that leads me to his ability to quickly change his vocal range and pitch, which sounds easy, but it actually isn't! When you project your voice, as I mentioned, you have to use your abdominal muscles to push air, and not your throat, and because of this you can hold notes longer, but it makes it so you don't have to gasp for breathe between lines. This comes into play especially when you go from a low register and gentle singing, to suddenly projecting your voice and entering a higher range, you don't hear Kihyun catch a breath at the end during the bridge, BECAUSE HE DIDN'T! He took a big breath before the end of the soft part, contained his breathe through the last line, and BELTED the last part flawlessly because he had enough air. I could talk about his technique for ages, but I just want more people to recognise that he actually puts in a lot of effort, even if it comes natural (hehe) to him or not, his technique is perfect.
Guys. Not to be dramatic, but Kihyun's lower register in English and his pronounciations literally just cleared my skin of acne. (Also, he has nice hands, beautiful teeth and is all around one of THE most good looking people I have ever laid eyes on)

I think the problem is that Monsta X's music is not suited to bring out the best in kihyun's voice. Don't get me wrong, kihyun shines as the main vocalist but a different brand of music could have helped him shine even more. That's why I'm so happy everytime he sings solo

There are two reasons why I started stanning Monsta X : first, I heard Livin’ it up once and thought it was incredibly good, and then I saw a Tiktok where Kihyun was reaching a high note like it was nothing, with his amazing voice. Istg Monsta X are one of the most talented group I know
often when kpop idols cover English songs it ends up sounding mushy but when he does it, he does it flawlessly. His voice is literally like warm honey mixed with fierce flames of gold, so powerful yet icy cold. Hands down the best cover by a kpop artist
Korean idols' first language is Korean, and English being hard for Koreans as it a lot of letters or words that aren't pronounced in Korean, unless they've continuously studied English outside of school, it will well tend to sound slurred e.g. "th" sounding words when pronounced by Koreans, is pronounced as "s" as there is no "th" sound used in Korean. I think also the benefit of having fluent English speaking members in groups, they help teach and improve the other members' English, as kpop is now a global phenomenon (BUT I don't expect every single kpop idol in the industry to learn English for fan's sake) I can definitely see that Kihyun has been working on his English, and this amazing and powerful cover DEFINITELY proves it 🌸
i strongly believe that he is one of the best vocalist from this generation but not just as kpop but... in the whole music industry. His voice is so unique, so beautiful, so powerful! and the way he always sings his heart out leaves me speechless

Vocal appreciation rant!:
The thing about Kihyun's voice that a lot of people maybe don't appreciate enough is his technique! We can all hear that he's an amazing singer, but not everyone are just born amazing, it's practice and attention to detail and using your emotions when you sing. An example of technique: Kihyun has extreme control over his vibrato and breathing first of all. That makes his voice very powerful because he sings from his diaphragm rather than from his throat, giving little room for his voice to crack. His vibrato comes in here, because if you are projecting your voice, you have to be careful not to use too much "shaking" because you can damage your vocal chords/larynx over time. But also it makes your voice sound shaky or pitched rather than strong and controlled so vibrato use is a choice not a must. I've always admired Kihyun for this ability, even when he sings softly he perfects it, and that leads me to his ability to quickly change his vocal range and pitch, which sounds easy, but it actually isn't! When you project your voice, as I mentioned, you have to use your abdominal muscles to push air, and not your throat, and because of this you can hold notes longer, but it makes it so you don't have to gasp for breathe between lines. This comes into play especially when you go from a low register and gentle singing, to suddenly projecting your voice and entering a higher range, you don't hear Kihyun catch a breath at the end during the bridge, BECAUSE HE DIDN'T! He took a big breath before the end of the soft part, contained his breathe through the last line, and BELTED the last part flawlessly because he had enough air.
I could talk about his technique for ages, but I just want more people to recognise that he actually puts in a lot of effort, even if it comes natural (hehe) to him or not, his technique is perfect.

Guys. Not to be dramatic, but Kihyun's lower register in English and his pronounciations literally just cleared my skin of acne.

Why isn’t Kihyun more recognised for his talent? The man is literally carrying the entire industry and knows. Ok, everyone in Monsta X is carrying the entire industry. But Kihyun definitely deserves more praise for his amazing vocals
I think the problem is that Monsta X's music is not suited to bring out the best in kihyun's voice. Don't get me wrong, kihyun shines as the main vocalist but a different brand of music could have helped him shine even more. That's why I'm so happy everytime he sings solo

There are two reasons why I started stanning Monsta X : first, I heard Livin’ it up once and thought it was incredibly good, and then I saw a Tiktok where Kihyun was reaching a high note like it was nothing, with his amazing voice. Istg Monsta X are one of the most talented group I know

often when kpop idols cover English songs it ends up sounding mushy but when he does it, he does it flawlessly. His voice is literally like warm honey mixed with fierce flames of gold, so powerful yet icy cold. Hands down the best cover by a kpop artist
Korean idols' first language is Korean, and English being hard for Koreans as it a lot of letters or words that aren't pronounced in Korean, unless they've continuously studied English outside of school, it will well tend to sound slurred e.g. "th" sounding words when pronounced by Koreans, is pronounced as "s" as there is no "th" sound used in Korean.
I think also the benefit of having fluent English speaking members in groups, they help teach and improve the other members' English, as kpop is now a global phenomenon (BUT I don't expect every single kpop idol in the industry to learn English for fan's sake)
I can definitely see that Kihyun has been working on his English, and this amazing and powerful cover DEFINITELY proves it 🌸
