    I wish all older people videoed or recorded different tips on how to do things on all sorts all things. All the knowledge that gets lost when a older person dies 😔 its shame not to be passed on to benefit us all. Great video! Thanks for the sharing! 👍

    Great tip. I recently took out an old engine 45 years and left it over night in boat and a small black discharge came out of the intake pipe. I ran it in salt water the cooler water was running. best wishes .

    No matter how much technology they put into things these days, nothing still beats simplicity! Especially when it comes to engines, the less electronics the better, a real delight to work on. Whats why I love my old beetle! Glad to hear from you again POC! All the best!

    I've been clearing out my garages trying to make some room and every time I put something aside for chucking out I kept thinking, would POC keep that?' Most of the time the answer was yes, so thanks a lot POC, I haven't got very far! Nice to see you back though.

    Glad to see you back! While the only Seagulls around here have feathers, not props, the general concept should apply to any outboard I expect.
    Stay well and I hope you are enjoying the summer weather.

    Welcome back POC. I was worried that the sharks had eaten you or some such dire thing. Very interesting information on your motor and how you back flush the salt water out of it. Since I do not have the knack to catch a fish I don't mess with boat motors. I had a boat once and it was just like a big pit to throw money into. Thanks for the video.

    Just acquired a nice seagull motor. Also new to outboards.
    Thanks for your input.
    Question. IF you were to put the motor in a tub of water and ran it after a salt water run would that flush out the salt water just the same? thanks

      Thinking the same acquired a seagull today for £100. I assume it does.

    Good to see you back POC, we've missed you. Another interesting video. I wish you lived next door to me, I've got a 50cc scooter that's driving me mad. I'm sure you'd have it sorted in next to no time.

    Having just bought a dinghy complete with two seagulls, one working with the other running but not pumping water; i found this vid insightful. Before getting out the spanners a flush seems to be the order of the day. Off to watch more of your vids on seagulls ;-)

    Words of wisdom form sure... I was under the impression it was best practice to flush the outboards with fresh water each time they've been out (in use), this was the process all the local fishermen use regardless of the outboard type...

    • @poroldchap
      @poroldchap  9 лет назад +1

      Indeed its good practice to flush all outboards in fresh water but its Seagulls that have a rotor not impeller (pump) that makes them especially beneficial to a "back" flushing prehaps I didn`t make this clear ?

    What if the back flushing does not clear the blockage. Is there a chemical available that can be left overnight after " turning the outboard upside down" so that the water jacket gets a good old soak. I have tried carb cleaner and kettle descaler . Yet when I take the outboard to the lake, no water from the tell tail and it starts to overheat.
    I am tempted to use drain cleaner but I guess that would damage the aluminium head .?
    Any ideas ?

    • @poroldchap
      @poroldchap  9 лет назад

      If water go`s "in" outlet and "out inlet" then theirs no blockage but rotor may struggle to pump if cylinder barrel galleries are rusted up, in this case "then" its advized to remove the head, four bolts don`t strip them (((you have been warned ))) you will find four galleries all "identical" shape round the liner at 12 oc 3 oc 6 oc 9 oc. I have found sometimes they are *so* chocker its hard to know whats metal or not ! use a small screwdriver and a small hammer and tap where you think a gallery should be (this will make sence when you do it ) poke and pugle whith screwdrivers a bits of wire and blow out all the rust with compressed air.
      99% of the time it will fix water flow . the head itself doesn`t have water ways !

    • @poroldchap
      @poroldchap  9 лет назад

      ***** Prehaps I should explaine the reason it saids "dont remove" on the head is in its day thier was no need but "now" because the bolts 5/16 BSF go through into the water ways so after many years they rust solid and you will likely ring them off .. you have bean warned !
