Thanks for taking the time to make this video and for answering questions in the comments! I have a slightly different setup with the UI16 and hoping you can help me; My goal is to not use the UI16's hotspot, or the LAN options, and instead use the wifi setting where it is connected to my home internet's network and then from any device using my home network's wifi, I can access and control the UI16 from a browser (While still maintaining the internet on that device). Is this possible? I've spent several hours trying to get it to work, but couldn't. I have the Gateway and submask entered which I believe are correct, and I also have the username and password entered for my home internet wifi, wich is correct. The only one I'm not sure of is the IP. I've tried about 5 different IP options by changing the end number and keeping the rest like the gateway IP, then powering off/on the device, but when going to the browser and typing in the IP, it doesn't load the control panel, unfortunately, so I"m stuck and don't know how to resolve it. Any ideas? Will buying an external router as you're setting up in this video solve this issue and allow me to ALSO have internet on the device that's connected to the UI? Or is the entire purpose of the external router that you're sitting up only to extend the wifi signal? Thanks so much!!
Just to note here, the DHCP on the Soundcraft setting that you mentioned do no use at 09:26. The DHCP here is not setting the Soundcraft to be a DHCP server it is setting it to OBTAIN a DHCP address FROM the DHCP server which in this case is the Netgear router.
with the internal wifi fix in the new updated 3.3 film ware has got this fixed now its great i just put a larger antenna on it now no more drops and great signal strength
nice vid. it would be nice if soundcraft just had gear inside that meant you can actually use your ipad without a router and not have drop outs. The unit doesnt work as advertised most the time if you are anywhere near other networks, which is pretty much all the time.
It’s interesting because it seems all the digital mixers out there have pretty inferior routers. Curious if it’s just cheap parts or some issue with interference with equipment.
Very well done! I wish I understood it better. If I’m successful in connecting my iPad via Ethernet, will the other performers still be able to access their monitor mixes? Thanks so much!
I have a router where the mode options are 1. Router, 2. Bridge Mode and 3. Extender. From the options it gives, I think 1. Router is what i should use but is this a common option on many routers and do you know which is most suitable for our application with the UI24R? Thanks for creating this video.

I’m using a TP-Link router but don’t know how to get to the screen as you have for your net gear. What’s the secret? I’ve done everything like you say for the ui side but can’t reach the router. Very confused. Great video.
If you have configured everything properly. a) connect to the external router b) put in the IP address to the soundcraft into the browser window That's all.
8:29 hi, I want to ask you something, can we use the soundcraft ui24r Ethernet cable connected to an internet router and use the UI web from the PC or phone that connected to that internet router? Thanks
Ok, so I got a router like yours, a ui16, cables, and an iPad. I’ve successfully been able to connect with Wi-Fi and hotspot disabled. Now how do I connect wirelessly? I want to be able to use the iPad to control the ui16 from a mic stand wirelessly and not with an Ethernet cable in tow. Thanks so much!
If you configured everything right if you connect your iPad to the external router then all you have to do is put in the address of the soundcraft into the address bar, just as if you were doing it with an ethernet connection.
I got it dude! I kept checking for anything I may have done wrong so I reset the UI and the Netgear and started over. I also kept your video running non stop. I followed your steps and I got it! It was so simple! I even set up the TP-Link router in the same way so now I have a spare. Thanks for your help.
I perform in a rock band, and I was advised that my UI24r would connect to my ipad better if I used a router in between them. Your video is very well done, but after watching it, this seems like an extremely complicated additional step. For most shows I do, the ipad connects just fine to the Soundcraft; but I have had friends who said they thought they needed one. Is the router really necessary for my purposes? Is there some other purpose that the router is used for here, other than the one I am focusing on? Any advice would be welcome, Thanks
I'm in a similar situation to you, rock band using a UI16. If your iPad is connecting and staying connected and you don't intend to connect any other devices to the hotspot then you may not need to use an external router. Mine has been problematic from the outset with connection issues that are likely due to wifi interference but also happen when there is little or no interference so I don't have any faith in the internal router on the UI. It seems to be a pretty common problem and if you're not having that problem count yourself lucky. I'm using a external router so I can (hopefully) have more than one device (tablet or phone) connected to the UI16 through the router (so others can adjust their own monitor level, for instance), to reduce or eliminate the connection dropouts and so I can use 5G to avoid the frequencies (specifically 2.4G) that some of our wireless items (guitar and in-ears) use.
First sorry for the long wait on the response. YT is terrible on notifying me. It is an additional step but once it is setup then it's pretty much auto pilot. I need the extended range because of the distances I can be away from the mixer at a wedding. Being closer definitely makes that easier to cope with. I would still say any external router would be more reliable.
Thanks a lot For the info. I will b e getting my new mixer this Saturday. I do have a question about the USB slots. I do know that the USB sticks should be a 3.0 but I do not know what is the largest size that can be use on the mixer. Can you tell me if you know what is the largest size and what is a good brand to use on a USB stick with this mixer?
Actually it can be USB 2.0. Most audio equipment out there does not do USB 3.0. But 3.0 is beneficial on the computer side if you are loading tracks. I've thrown 64GB sticks at it with no issue. I do suggest the fastest stick you can find for recording. SanDisk tends to be the most reliable.
Can you connect multiple devices (iPads phones for AUX control) to the router, with the same IP address that you choose within the routers range of numbers ? Or do you need to give each device its own IP address within the routers range of numbers? And if you can connect the devices with the same IP address will there be a conflict between the devices using the static IP address?
Sorry been at DJ Expo this week and just seeing it. Each device gets its own IP but the beauty is the router also issues them out to devices that connect (that’s called DHCP). The one drawback is the IP can change periodically to those devices. So issuing a static IP to the Soundcraft is important because you need to always get it. 😎
I have tried to follow your video to connect my TP-Link-805C Router to my Soundcraft UI16 and I cannot follow it or get it to work. I can't understand when I have to connect my computer to my actual WI-Fi, or Soundcraft Mixer of the Router. If I sent you the details of my router would you be able to explain to me how to do it?
Sorry I don't always see these comments right away. You connect your computer/tablet/phone to the external router. If you have configured things correctly your router will talk to the soundcraft, and then you just have to put the IP address you assigned to the soundcraft into your browser.
This all looks sound... I initially thought to connect my ipad wirelessly to the UI, then use the LAN port on the UI to hardwire my laptop, as a redundancy. Can I still have the redundancy of the laptop by plugging into one of the remaining sockets on the Router....?

It depends. Not sure what caused the lockup. I've not experienced that with my 24R's (I had that happen with my first-generation 16s). The router will help extend the range.
I have the IP address, Gateway and Subnet settings in the mixer under the LAN settings set to the same as my Router. When I try to connect my ipad to the Router it just stays on "connecting"
So this may be the problem. Your IP address of the router (say 192.168.1.1) must be different than the mixer (say 192.168.1.2) and then your connecting device be it a laptop, phone, etc should be issues yet another address (say 192.168.1.100). Note that these address all have the first three digits the same. This is all part of the same “subnet” or sub network if you will and as long as they are all are on the 255.255.255.0 subnet they can all talk to each other.
I’m able to connect to my external router and to the ui but it locks me out. I can’t change the settings on my channels. When I go back to the hotspot connection, I’m able to use the ui with no problems.
So basically you can use the internal hot spot to make a wireless connection or you can setup an external wi-fi router which will give you a longer range but that is setup using the LAN configuration. What would the Wi-Fi configuration in the Ui24R be used for? What I would like to be able to do is access the Ui24R from my desktop computer pc that doesn't have wi-fi built in but that is hooked up to a wi-fi router with a LAN cable. Is that possible?
This would be some wonky routing to get it to work. There is some pass-through capabilities that in theory you can negotiate with an external router that way, but it's never worked in a stable fashion for me. The best path is Ui to a router cabled.
@@jttama it's there and theoretically supposed to be able to do what you are trying to achieve. But I think it has challenges negotiating with security protocols and just has not been something I can rely on to use.
I'm unsure if I got this right. I changed the IP within the range of the router, switched on LAN switched WiFi off... It's not showing up on the routers browser page, but I can see my PC there which is also plugged into the router... I'm a bit lost
Do you have the Ui cabled properly to the router (LAN port and not the Internet/WAN port)? You can keep the WiFi connected while you are troubleshooting things.
@@djlouparis I *think* it's ok now, I connected to my router on my phone and typed the Mixers new IP in the browser and got a "more me" page turn up. So I assume this must mean the mixer is using the routers WiFi?
Man could you answer a question for me please once you wire an external router up to you i-24r can you connect wirelessly and wired I'm having problems I can get into it wired but I cannot using the same router get it to connect with a tablet
I am still running into connectivity issues. I am following your steps : I set the gateway on the UI to match the Netgear router's IP address. The subnet is the same as well. I assigned a unique IP address on the UI with 1 digit less than the gateway address (like you did). I then fired up my ipad and select either the Soundcraft's or the NetGear wifi and Safari says it cant find internet hence NOT loading the UI interface. What am I doing wrong ?
Be sure when you go into Safari (chrome is best according to Soundcraft Ui) to input the routers IP address not the UI’s. Unless, of course, you have it set up for Wi-Fi, as well. And that is what I do and it enables me to have 10 iPads and the band members mixing their own monitors. I have also experimented with connecting the wan port to my ethernet jack on my computer. So far, it has extended and the Soundman is able to go at least 40 yards into the audience. I also have a dedicated extender so that it could go even further. I am using the Apple extreme by the computer and an apple express towards the back of the room to extend it. Just remember you are not dealing with the Internet, you are dealing with a webpage in the UI mixer. It will always say “no Internet” because you are simply locating the page sent out by the UI mixer. When the UI is connected to the router using the routers address, that is why you use the routers address in the web browser because it’s like you’re all then in one house with the same address and you will be able to see and utilize the page that’s in the UI mixer. The router allows multiple devices to enter the address and communicate with the UI mixer. Hence, you can have up to 10 iPads, maybe more. That is something that I will have to work on and put on my RUclips channel someday. I hope this helps!
It seems all the digital mixers have inferior routers. I am starting to wonder if there is some RF interferences from having a higher power router inside the electronics.
Hi, I would like to connect my sound craft ui16 to the internet Wirelessly, I already have an external router to enhance the Wifi range to control the mixer, but in the WIFI section even though I wrote the "existing WIFI" info it does let me connect to internet, just to the mixer. Do you know how to ?
You would need to do a bit of different configuration to get something like this to work. It's a bit more complex and unfortunately it's just a lot to put down here and I'd have to experiment to figure all the particulars. You would be better off directly connecting it to your main internet-connected router which would save a lot of steps. But unless this is a permanent installation you are not gaining much doing this.
When you set your other UI to 101 rather than 102 how do you know what to set your subnet mask set to? Another scenario, if I run the external router via Ethernet cable to UI and then run Ethernet from the external router to a laptop can I still operate the global settings of the unit wirelessly with an iPad and all aux users wirelessly as well. Laptop is meant to be redundant just in case issues with the wifi. Is there anything that needs to be done with the settings of the laptop? By hooking up a laptop to a router would that cause it to just be recognized as another device just like the UI where wireless users could potentially hook into Laptop rather than being what I want it to be as the interface to the UI? If that’s the case would it make more sense to run Ethernet from the second Ethernet port direct to the laptop and use the first Ethernet port for Ethernet hook up to the router for wireless?
Subnets are generally straight forward. Putting it simply a 255.255.255.0 address says "control these IP addresses from .1 - .254". If I did 255.255.252.0 that means control a block of 4 IPs addresses which gives me 1016 IP addresses on that network", and so on. 255.255.255.0 is the most common subnet to apply and requires no math other than "the entire range" of that IP address block.
I am unfamiliar with how that is setup. That being said the basic networking rules still apply. Setting any device with a static IP (e.g. 10.10.0.x) and setting the router to that same network (10.10.0.x) would make it reachable.
Thanks for the video. I have two questions 1. Once configured how do you actually connect? Do you access the Soundcraft UI hotspot access point on your iPad and then type the new routers IP address in the browser? This is the only way it seems to work for me. 2 I found a video on UIs site where they choose a IP address for the UI outside the start and end IP range, not within like you demonstrate. Will this still work?
So if configured right, you would reach the Ui from the new router, but via a static IP (like in my case I use 192.168.101.2 for my ceremony rig and 192.168.102.2 for my reception rig. The .1 address would be accessing the new router directly. The other video you are seeing (I am just guessing) it sounds like they setup a DHCP range in the router. But unless you are setting in the router a dedicated IP in the table you would potentially be left with guessing which IP the router is assigning the Ui. That's why I set a IP so I know where to go.
Thanks for the video! I'm still confused though, or at least not getting the info I think I want. Is it true that this video is for configuring a router hardwired to a computer? I want to mix my Ui with a iPad, using a wireless signal, but still wish to avoid the built-in hotspot, or local available wifi signals. So if I want to hookup and configure an exsternal WIFI router, does this workflow you've shared still apply? Thanks for your consideration!
Sorry just seeing this. YT did not alert me to all my comments of the past few weeks. No this is to configure a wireless router so you can control with any wireless device. This extends the range of the fairly-poor output of the built-in router of the Soundcraft. Also, with the Ui24R you can also do a HDMI out to a touch-capacative screen and also control that.
A guy at the store where I bought mine from said if you buy a router you dont need an expensive unit either but buy it NEW and all you have to do is plug and play. NO CONFIGURING NEEDED

The first procedure in portugese, if you do that, Will reset network config. The second, wrote with my bad english, should reset log in password, then your device should be unlocked. Set a new password if you want to lock the acess again.
Regards.
That sounds very odd. Not sure what may be causing these issues.
Thanks. What is the wi-fi configuration used for then?
@@jttama it's there and theoretically supposed to be able to do what you are trying to achieve. But I think it has challenges negotiating with security protocols and just has not been something I can rely on to use.
@@djlouparis thats what I thought it was for. Thanks for replying. I will do what you recommended in your video.
@@greasybumpkin1661 I would assume so. It will largely depend on what IP/subnet you are on and the like.
Man could you answer a question for me please once you wire an external router up to you i-24r can you connect wirelessly and wired I'm having problems I can get into it wired but I cannot using the same router get it to connect with a tablet
Sorry I am just seeing this. It sounds like the external router may not be set up for DHCP (something needed to assign an IP address to your devices).
I will say my gateway is different then the internal routers default gateway. But not sure what worse might be at issue.
Soundcraft should get with Netgear or some other company and have them build an internet router for them. Add a hundred bucks and everyone is happy.
@@djlouparis Oh I see, that helps me make some decisions. thanks!
Do these saettings work in the UK?
There shouldn’t be any difference.
If I did 255.255.252.0 that means
control a block of 4 IPs addresses which gives me 1016 IP addresses on that network", and so on.
255.255.255.0 is the most common subnet to apply and requires no math other than "the entire range" of that IP address block.
Hai sir can use same setup process for si impact mixer please help me sir
I am unfamiliar with how that is setup. That being said the basic networking rules still apply. Setting any device with a static IP (e.g. 10.10.0.x) and setting the router to that same network (10.10.0.x) would make it reachable.
how to connect the router to soundcraft ui?
I thought I mentioned in the video, but you wanna connect a regular port on your router, not the Internet/WAN port.
Can i use my ipod earphones to monitor my mixing? Is that posible?
You would need a 1/8 > 1/4 converter but there is a headphones/monitor out on the unit (actually 2)
I setup identical to yours settings and did not work.
If you’d like I can try to help troubleshoot some.
I did this 3 thimes right and it worked and now it just dont work any more please help me
I’m not sure if I can quite help. It worked before and then it stopped? Any info could help to troubleshoot.
totally lost .. cant i just substitute a stronger antenna?
You can, however it would only provide a minimal gain in distance/stability. I have found external routers are far better performers.

Apparently someone does not like the intro. ;)
12 minute video.......12
. Yes 12. Trying to explain the "whys" of it all so people have a better understanding. :)
Not helpful at all. Ill never get the 12 minutes back.
Sorry, this is about as simple as it gets.
talk about taking the long way, dude just get to the fckg point
I mean if you think there is a better video to figure this out…
@@djlouparis found a few that got right to the point without explaining in ridiculous pointless detail about how every single network protocol works ..my god this was painful
@guitarplayer5932 and yet you’re here 🤷
too much talking
And? I mean if you know how to configure a router for the Ui-series then you don't need to watch. :)
What did you expect? Dancing as well?
