    The guys from down under are simply the best at what they do and is so good at helping others understand how to execute a particular skillful task. I learned Snappa from an Aussie; I learned Video intro from an Aussie, I learned Conva from an Aussie, by the way the company is run by an Aussie, and now I have just learnt one of the most important skill for a recording artist to learn, as you know, all we do as recording artist is just go to the studio and laydown vocal tracks, but as a result of you, Mike Russell, the best in the business, I am now able to sing my own songs, mix and master my own songs and create my own instrumental and mix and master it within a song. My gosh; this is a skill that I was always wishing I had; now, I do. I will upload the song that I made as a result of Mike Russell's amazing video tutorial. May the good heavens provide you with everlasting fortunes; Thanks for a life-changing Audacity video tutorial, Mikel.

    Hmm, I was waiting for you to 'play' the differences in loudness between the two versions, but you never did. So once you finished mastering the second one, which one was in fact the louder of the two? Or did you not master it to be louder volume wise? Just curious.

    Great video. You mention these settings are suitable for uploads to podcast etc. What about if you wanted an actual dance track that was suitable for radio play alongside or say a master copy thst you wanted to be pressed onto vinyl. Are there any more suitable settings to use so my music sounds comparable with other similar dance tracks? For years I've always had issues with my music never sounding close to other finished tracks I hear. I can never seem to match them up in terms of eq etc. I have been using soundforge for some years but recently downloaded audacity.

      There are some videos on the channel on processing your voice to give a generic idea but every voice is different and it also depends on what the voice is being processed for.

    Hi, Mike, you say this is good for podcasting, right? Does the same apply to narrating audiobooks (including but not limited to dialogues)? Thanks!

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell 8 месяцев назад

      Yes, the techniques I demonstrate in this tutorial can also be applied when producing audiobooks and voiceovers. Just make sure to watch your noise floor levels and average RMS as those are important especially as it relates to ACX standards.

    Mike thank you for this, I always, work in audacity to do everything even jingles, station IDs you name it.
    The one thing that I want to ask you, how do you keep everything quantised, because what happens with me, I do the same thing that you were doing the mixing, but the problem is, it will start off in sync, and then go out of sync later as the track is going on, how do I keep everything in sync if the music bed, and the vocals were not recorded in audacity?

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell 2 года назад

      The files used in this example were not recorded in Audacity and remain in sync. It could be that they're different sample rates or could be as simple as they're shifting in the edits.

    there’s this other thing, that you always do too, the last time I saw you do it in Adobe addition, it was last year, it’s where you actually beat sink, three songs all together.
    My question is can you do the same thing in audacity, and make a jingle out of it, if possible can you please do a video on it?

    With your extensive knowledge of audio engineering, you might want to offer a tutorial on professional mixing-down of multitracks. As far as I can see, no one has offered an advanced tutorial. The challenge for me is to control the loudness of track parts as the song builds: for instance, as more instruments are added, fills/riffs tend to become buried. Those who work with simple projects where all the tracks are constant in volume require little skill in mixing down to stereo. But mixing down tracks where, say, a crescendo in a string section is added to harmonize with a synth brass line, the vocal can suffer. LUFS metering is unreliable to craft a balance between the lead voices and accompaniment, so that instruments remain audible when the production is played on a sound system with and without a subwoofer (or phone). I think some tips to expediently control volume, separation and especially unwanted "swelling" caused by compression to sustaining notes when mixing would be of interest to many.

    Hello!
    I'm a visually impaired user trying to work with Audacity and another application as well. Due to my eyesight problems, I can't see the screen and what you showed. It seems pretty easy to master an audio file but sometimes I wasn't able to follow you. So please could you write to me in a nutshell how I should mix and master music? What tracks should I get rid of?
    I'm looking forward to your reply,
    Árpád

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell 5 месяцев назад +1

      Mastering software like Audition or Pro Tools often has more advanced features and tools specifically designed for professional audio mastering, so it's expected to produce louder and more beefy results compared to the free version of Audacity.
