I disagree with all the hate for this relationship. Rewatching the whole show for the millionth time and it strikes me that although I'm really sad at the ending between Marissa and Ryan, that's all their relationship seemed to be. She was a drama character that never really offered anything more in my eyes. Bit like sticking Ross and Rachel together at the end of Friends - everything in the show tells you it won't work. Ryan and Taylor was a much more positive relationship.

I agree, with Marissa and Ryan they did love each other, but they always let someone break them up. I think it was the drama that kept them interested in each other. A dramatic scene always broke them up and then bring them back together. With Ryan and Taylor it was different. How crazy Taylor would get but Ryan still wanting to be with her it's so cute. And Ryan expressed his feeling more with Taylor.
This was my favorite scene of the season. I love the O.C, and Ryan and Taylor were my favorite couple. The earthquake made me bawl like a baby. I really miss this show.
I used to love Ryan x Marissa and I didn't really like any of the other girls he was with until Taylor came around. Come on Taylor is perfect for him and can make him happy and she is actually cheerful not some melodramatic drama queen like Marissa was.

I mean jus look carefully how tay changed ryan. Marissa was jus yeah umm depressing she always hurt rayen n made him somehow jealous, n then she complained about him not trustin her -.-
No way! Ryan and Taylor did have chemistry. Marissa just seemed to have too many problems. She messed with others feelings (though, yes most were not intentional. I just really loved the fact that Taylor made Ryan happy for once.
I think the writers planned from the beginning that Marissa was never meant to be with Ryan. It's the premise that two opposites attract and Marissa & Ryan always clashed. Marissa wasn't meant to die in the third season but the writers had to take her out so they did it to speed the storyline. This is why season 4 feels so rushed because it was meant to last another two maybe three seasons.
I bawled like a baby when I saw this episode. I was so happy when Ryan told Taylor how he felt, but when the earthquake started I was like "NOOOO!!!!!" :P Thanks for posting, though. I love Ryan and Taylor. Taylor is much better for Ryan then Marissa ever was. Marissa was needy, she couldn't decide what or WHO she wanted, and she always brought drama with her.... She was my least favorite character. Sorry to all the Marissa fans, but that's my opinion.

@africarocks1234 ur right and ur wrong. it really varies. there was a minor earthquake here where i am a couple months ago and it lasted about a minute, not much damage, but in other places example the philippines where my mum is from, there were earthquakes she experienced lasting about 10 mins or less and much more rough, kinda like this, so it is possible. sorry 2 sound like a know it all i just wanted 2 say wat i know.

actually they did break up after ryan started liking johnyz cousin they broke up then she was leavin new port & ryan went 2 take her 2 the airport & well u no wat happens lol but they did break up
Ryan and Taylor were the most random/ridiculous couple on the show. A huge slap in the face to the fans. Josh Schwartz realized he made a huge mistake killing off Marissa and this was his solution. AKA the reason the show lost all of it's viewers & ended.
Al Me maybe in that time frame it was crazy but rewatching now I feel more for taylor & ryan then i ever did for marissa and ryan. Marissa was a toxic character in a way. 90% of the time she always got Ryan into a situation. Taylor although being a bitch and random love interest was better suited for him because their relationship was a positive one.
Al Me if you rewatched season 4, you can see that their relationship wasn’t necessarily “random.” the writers built the relationship up first, it just felt rushed because the season was short, hence your feeling of “randomness.”
