"You elevate your own product and bury the other company"----and in the process kill every town in that territory. Shane Douglas said the first NWA/UWF show that he worked was in New Orleans & Dusty booked every Crockett guy over every UWF guy. Said the local UWF crowd starting booing non-stop around the 3rd match. Came back around in a few weeks and the place was empty. Bill Watts said he just assumed Crockett would start a NWA vs UWF feud after he left because inter-promotional rivalries when done right were always huge money---and he owned both territories anyway
Yeah, if Crockett had a really good money guy and a really good marketing guy, like Vince had, I think they could have really lasted as JCP well into the 90s. They just outran their supply lines, and Vince was bringing in revenue from all these non wrestling sources that JCP didn't. Also killing off the local talent with your own is just idiotic. Why buy a company just to bury them.
From what I have heard, Central States died a slow death. Cornette said it was where people went to start or end their career. He and the Midnight Express went there for a few matches and it was sad. Some of the wrestlers didn't even own boots.
@@oldschoolfan420 that may have been because that was more the style they did when he entered the business and also he was getting older and didn't have the energy to go pedal to the floor for a match.
They bought these companies for the tv stations for their national network that never took off. Invasion angles wouldnt have worked because nobody in Georgia knew these guys. Key was to find guys like Sting to elevate into stars. DiBiase and Duggan choosing WWF was big. Dusty wouldve absolutely built them up
Jim Crockett did exactly what Vince did but with lesser stars gained. He bought 2 territories on top of the one he had himself to run and he could keep up with the amount of talent on the roster.
I thought he only bought UWF & FCW. I didn't know he bought other wrestling organizations too. Crockett definitely screwed up The UWF angle he could have had.
he's right about that. all of them were very short sighted, including vince. maybe vince wouldn't have had to resort to human sex trafficking to keep his business afloat if he hadn't killed the grass roots
seems like it should've been fairly obvious that buying a territory and then sending your guys in to crush the territory's talent wasn't the right gameplan.

It would have helped central states if bulldog bob brown wouldn't have someone in a side headlock for 20 minutes putting fans to sleep.
@@oldschoolfan420 it looked like all their main wrestlers were way past their prime. It went the way of the AWA and Gulas in the Chattanooga area.

No jet flying for you baby...
Crockett was the first modern day McMahon. He would have been the prick everyone would have loathed. Funny how timing works.
Crockett was doing it because Vince started it.
What…? This was years after mac mahon jr began doing the same thing. Crockett was copying him

I still don't get why he disappeared from AEW tv
AEW didn't offer to renew his contract.
