This beats the pants off of the western digital drives that rely on Wifi to connect to iPad. How is this device not ALL OVER RUclips? This is exactly what I need to edit videos on my iPad. Perfect.

Using the app can you rename files that are on the copilot? I want to be able to transfer or edit video files directly on my iPad but the iPad won't see video files unless you rename them first.
I was reading on B&H that you can only transfer DJI drone footage. In other words, using my iPhone XS to film, and then transfer the footage to my iPad Pro would not be possible. Could you confirm this? thanks for your time.
I don't think so. How can the device know you have "drone" footage? BTW, to transfer video from iPhone XS to ipad, please use airdrop :) It's design just for that. No hardware needed.
@@JeromeDemers agreed on the footage type. And as far as video file transfer is concerned, Airdrop seems to compress the footage before sending (lowering the quality) plus it takes a long time for Airdrop to send the footage - so I have been looking for alternatives.
I just got this and it transfers iPhone Xr, Fuji X-T2, and Panasonic G85 files perfectly. Jpegs, RAW files, and 4k video - they all work. The Fuji RAW files don't show an image preview on the app but they transfer over from SD card and I can import them into Lightroom mobile where they function normally. Works with my iPhone, iPad Pro and older iPad.
I bought it but seems is goof for photos only, I don’t know how to save my pdf, documents, word, etc from Iphone or iPad on Lacie copilot boss! Any help please?
I tried one of those and it was REALLY slow! You need to pass by their sofware to manage file. This with the build in files system of the ipad is greatr because all the other app can access them. But yes it's good point.
What a shame they did not engineer a viewable capability (aka: Photos/video) into the device in addition to connecting it to another interface to view them.
No. Does the screen on the back of a camera (for instance) make it a laptop? Of course not. Screen's (especially small 1.5-2.0") cost very little and would only serve to enhance user experience.
I understand that, but to be able to actually view the files on the screen, you need some kind of player software that has to be support a lot of file types. And that needs to be managed by some kind of an os. That's beginning to sound like a small computer. Or tablet. Call it what you want. If you need a tablet to view the files from the drive and want to bypass that tablet, then the drive becomes...
DJI are a large android user so the OS is not a problem. They also make numerous remotes with in-built screens - also driven by embedded code/software which allows the video and stills to be viewed as you use it. So in effect, DJI have the "sum of" capabilities all there already ...just not in one highly usable device. Cheers

I do have one of those the only bad thing is you still cant put your iTunes movie library on it and watch it from their
Only 349 to be able to use a browser on an iPad?
A steal.
The thing can backup your cards WITHOUT using a tablet or phone.

can you charge it from a powerbank?
yes
yes you can
Will this work on pixel 2?
suppose to work with android too, so yes
it comes with 2 cable for android. Micro USB cable and USB-C cable for Android
Yeah the pixel 2 have a weird relationship with external drives and need to make sure did this will work
Thanks
Just buy multiple SD cards and a USB SD card reader - which you can use on your tablet with a USB down size cable or adapter.
if you have android that have USB OTG ok. But this is for the iPad/iOS ecosystem.
You're wrong Jerome: it also works on Android.
What’s the catch? Pictures and video only (from ipad)? Apple will find a way to make this disappointing or cumbersome.
You can manage any type of file like on a PC
what if I use a card reader to copy photos from my XQD card, will it work? Anybody has tried it?
Can the App see RAW files like cr2
Tim Mark sorry, that is something I can not answer. Did a quick search and did not find any info on this.
Yes: it can copy raw photos.
Or you just save everything to your ipad via sd to ipad for $25 usd

Well, if they did put a viewer, it would pretty much become a laptop, wouldn't it ? And the price would climb.

You are totally right: they have the "sum of" capabilities to make it a more expensive... portable computer. Cheers !
What a fucking rip off
