why not just tie clinch knot to the fly line loop? loop to loop connections get hung up a lot. Assuming you wont/can't do a nail knot to butt section, seems like a simple clinch knot is smoother, easier, faster. But maybe you have another reason.

Clinch knot to the fly line makes it hard to get off, where as a loop to loop connection makes it easy to remove and use again. you could also cut off the welded loop and tie a nail knot if you're worried about catching, then that is probably your best bet! There is no wrong way, just different ways!

@@FlyFishingBowRiver Strictly speaking- loop to loop is more "reusable".
But I started thinking about it: just how often do I switch out there & how much loss do I have from clipping & retying a clinch knot-- versus how many hundreds of times is there friction from bulky loop to loop connections...And the answer became clear (for me). Then I can use a tippet ring below the butt section for extremely easy, quick, modular changes to rigs. (and you can keep extra rigs on foam disks) Once I thought about it, the utility of the loop to loop connections was a false promise.
I agree there are different ways that work better for certain situations. But that doesn't mean that some ways aren't better than others, at the same time.
