This beat reminds me beats made in the dirty dirty in the early 2000s. I can literally hear other artists and songs in my head with the near exact same beat. So, while it’s a good beat, there’s Nothing new or special about the beat itself… For all intensive purposes, I’ve heard this beat hundreds of times with hundreds of artists.
However, I think the most important part of this beat, which is different, is that it’s produced in a way that’s giving the artist space to showcase his delivery, word play, and cadence and such, while still hitting hard.
Gates is not my guy, not a fan, but “he’s doing his thang” to quote Mr. Knight. He’s definitely got some chops and genuine talent.
This is the best track I’ve heard from Gates, But that R rolling thing is still freaking annoying as hell. Used much less often and more targeted with specific Ls and beat harmonization, it could be a nice feature… but used in this excess amount as a signature to his style is a major put off and one of the reasons I’m not a fan.
