Thanks for the video on this - exactly what I needed! (Have to shorten 4 chains from 56 to 55....a one-time deal and didn't want the extra spinner and breaker tools lying around thereafter). A resourceful solution with what I already have at hand.
A good idea is to make sure the cutters are on the outside of the loop! If a grinder isn't available A few strokes with a file will make punching out easier. A breaker bar is easy to make with small pieces of steel and small bolts. I like peening on a rounded surface.
Thank you for making a video on making chain where it can be seen as to how to do it. Amazing how many have vids up and you can't much see what they are doing and what one needs to do. So thank you very much
I cut the head off a small ball pen and weld a piece of square stock to it, makes it easier to hammer with that. Stens did make a field tool called Break-N-Mend, not sure if it's still produced.
A friend just gave me a roll of 3/8 he's had for years that doesn't fit his saw. I'm about to make up some spares for my little Stihl 211 thanks for your guidance mate.
Where do you take out a riot specifically, IF you have a 68 drive link store bought chain, and want to make it one less , to make it 67 drive links. This confuses me , because wouldn't removing and even number of links to an odd number of links throw off how the every other cutter is opposite of an another? Any help on where to specifically pop rivets out.
Most chains have an unbalanced "left to right" cutter configuration anyway. If your chain has a double left or right cutter, take it out there. If not, take it out anywhere. Doesn't matter either way. No worries. The main concern with any chain is keeping the drags set consistently. I have chains with 10 teeth missing that cut great. Any time I rip off a disproportionate amount on one side, I'll cut off some on the other side if I feel "weird" about it. Granted, I'm dealing with big ass chains doing this, but it really will not affect use ability...
I'm not a "videographer" and this isn't about "production". STFU or go make your own video.. Go watch some Kpop... Do you actually believe that I give one single shit what "you" think?
Thanks for sharing this. I really appreciate all the things you share, you explain things in a way it's easy to understand.

Good job, making up some chains and don't have a spinner anymore, job looks great.
Thanks from Australia

Thanks man, saved me a lot of time and cash.
Nice job
Thank you William i like it simple
Great to be able to do things with the tools you already have. Thanks for the insperation. Have a happy new day
Have several spare chains from a previous saw a few links too long for present saw! will be shortening these now

So thank you very much
You're welcome Bob.
Great Video Brother.
Many thanks to you sir !
Cheers bud👍
Turn off the cheap air compressor please, bye
You don't need to announce you leaving. Beat it.
Do you have to buy a new link?
Where do you get that?
@kevincarpenter8141 go on ebay and you can buy "link packs." If you buy rolls of chain to make up, the link packs come with them.
Great video thank you for sharing 🙏
Great video on making loops without having to buy more crap for my work shop👌
Thanks bud...
I'm surprised no one makes a rivet forming tool that can be hammered on directly.

Great vid, great craftsmanship! Thank you sir!
I do it like this too, you can also recycle the links.
That's how I do it!
terrible production , why don't you have everything ready to go at the start.
