I feel like part of My Hero’s success was cause of when it was released. Back in 2016, hero fever was heavy from all the Marvel movies and stuff. I also feel like when it came out it was a nice fresh new shonen in a modern day setting, which isn’t as common as it is now. I’ve been watching this show since season 1 and imma keep watching it. This show really is something though. The flaws are definitely there and valid, but ever since like season 2 this show has got a hold on me. I think it’s due to the cast; I’m not sure exactly how they did it but this show managed to make me truly care about these characters and this show is really good about delivering emotional beats with these characters. I would say Attack on Titan is my favorite anime and it’s better written, but I’ve gotten emotional and teared up more times at My Hero than anything else. Look, with this show, the low points are definitely there but when it peaks, it peaks with some crack in it.
I fell like MHA proves how a basic concept can be turned into a masterpiece. You’d kinda expect villains to be like “Well why didn’t you save me?” But they don’t just leave it at that. They dive into the characters backstories to truly show this society’s flaws. For all it does good there will always be others who will be left behind. But if everyone helps just a bit, maybe we can save that many more people. Even if it’s just telling a kid he can achieve his dreams. It sounds so corny yet it so good god this is my favorite show ever.
