Rescues are way too picky. They complain that their animals aren't being adopted, but they turn down most applicants. I applied to adopt a senior cat and two dogs and all three times I was turned down. One didn't give a reason, one said no because I was renting, and one said no because I said I wouldn't feed him blue buffalo food 🙄 I will never try to go through a rescue agency again.

I'm shocked that she was overlooked for adoption for so long, she's absolutely adorable and her face and meow just melt my heart. I would adopt her in a millisecond.
It may have just been a numbers game. It may be different with dogs, as my experience is with cats. Even though I read we are making progress, there are still just SO MANY unwanted cats looking for a home. Spay and neuter every chance you get!
Unfortunately there are literally thousands and thousands of cats in shelters :/ and older cats aren't as popular

People want the 'perfect cat' / kitten I adopted a 3 legged cat and they wouldnt tell me how long he had been there
The problem is many people say online that they will adopt this cat or that cat or this dog or that dog and yet it is another person who actually does the adopting. Just saying because words are cheap.
And yes, I have rescued cats on the streets and am still feeding some stray cats that I cannot adopt due to having too many pets already--7 dogs and 4 cats (after some cats passed away). So what I do when I have the budget is to spay/neuter some of those strays on our street.
Eight years isn't remotely too old for a cat. Most of my cats lived to between 13-14. This cat seems like a really sweet cat, and one I would adopt.
Most of my adopted cats lived to their early twenties🥰.
Our first cat lived to be 21 if I recall correctly, later we had two beautifull red cats, brothers, the second passed away a year after the older brother, both were 19 years old.
Oh no I’m now hearing this is the average age span. I thought I lost my boys too soon at age 15 and 16. When I first got my cats I assumed they’d live to 18-20 years. It’s been two years since the last one passed away and I’m still not over it. 😢

I live alone and am 70 years old. All my 4 fur babies have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. This kitty makes my heart melt. If you can’t keep her, let me know, I will take her in a heartbeat.😻

Tequila should have a vote, after all, it's her home, too. As kind as it seems as Chau is, if Tequila gets stressed over a new cat, that could be troubling.
@@ThrowItOnTheGrillcats take time to adjust to each other, it looks like real progress is being made! It took our 1st cat about 6 months to adjust to our 2nd cat and now they coexist peacefully and play together sometimes
It's not like Chou is attacking or bullying or endangering Tequila in any way. She is in fact respecting tequila's boundaries. So depriving Chou of a home, rejecting her and returning her to the shelter where she was being bullied, is incredibly unkind and cold-hearted. Chou deserves a home and happiness too, and if we mollycoddled every child or pet that initially wasn't thrilled about a sibling, 90% of children and pets would be an only child.
She definitely got some ragdoll in her. The face and her docile personality. I have three ragdoll babies, and they follow me everywhere. They are like my child . I love them sooooo much .
She's a Snowshoe.
Nope. That's a Snowshoe. She's a mix of Siamese and probably an ordinary domestic shorthair. They have similar markings to Ragdolls, but they usually have darker points and are shorthaired.
She is a snowshoe. I had one for 19 years. He was almost dog like in affection and loyalty. It’s part of that breed that they are extremely sweet. My showshoe Rocky (aka Rockstar) was EVERYONES friend. He slept in my bed every night snuggled right up against me. So affectionate.
Ok this cat wins the internet cat contest. There couldn’t possibly be a more adorable cat. I’d adopt her in an instant.
I had a cat like this. I think this cat is part Siamese like mine due to the head shape. At least, that's what the vet said. They are friendly.

Who would not want this beautiful, sweet cat? they mentioned that she was older, in the video, not sure how old. I adopted a 17 year old cat, it was the best thing I ever did....she lived four more years and once I got her back on her feet from sitting in a shelter for six months, she had four years of great health and happiness, before she got sick at the end...I lost her at age 21. RIP, I love you, Deja. We miss you so much.

@@denitrozner9299 Is that you in the video? If so, can you PLEASE let us know how it worked out, did you adopt Chou. I totally agree with the above comment and said the same, it was very commendable of (you?) the owner to take the first cat's feelings into consideration, no one will judge your decision one way or another, we just get emotionally invested in stories like this and it feels like we were left hanging, not knowing how it was resolved. If you know about precious Chou's fate, please let us know.
FYI if you are still fostering and haven't made up your mind, just know, while you're the only one who knows what's best for your cat, just take into consideration that they are very resilient creatures and they will learn to live with each other in all but the most extreme cases.
My cats were initially upset at any feral cat I ever brought in, but not wanting to leave them out in the frigid NY winter, I brought them in and hoped for the best, and it always worked out...sometimes better than other times lol, but I don't see ANY behavior coming from Tequila that shows any great anxiety or distress at Chou being around (trust me, between the growling, hissing and fighting...you'd know). If you are the one from the video...good luck in whatever decision you make, again, only *you* would know what's best for your cat, . Just Let Us Know! 😹

@@denitrozner9299I had the same situation. I tried to introduce a cat to my resident cat, who I knew didn’t get along with other cats. After 2 years I gave up.

Aww, how could anyone not want adorable, blue-eyed, communicative Chou? I hope 13 y.o. Tequila gives her a chance. Her person’s translations of Chou’s vocalizations are priceless! Both these cats have amazingly beautiful eyes. Hard to believe it took so long for someone to want to adopt Chou. 8 years is not that old for a cat.
Exactly - my last 3 sisters all lived into their 20's, with my oldest living to 23! I know she's not even close to a record - there've been kitties who've lived much longer. 8 to me is just beginning adulthood! Chou is an absolutely wonderful kitty.

I hope tequila accepts Chou so she can finally have a great life and keep you company when tequila is gone. She’s very sweet and is normal for the original cat to avoid the competition on the beginning but they can get very close once she senses no threat on the newcomer. If you can get them on the sofa with you at the same time that would solidify the deal! Once you’re able to pet both simultaneously, then they understand you’re there for both. Good luck!
My 12 yr old cat still hates the two new 1 yr old babies. It’s been a year. She tolerates them but if they get near yikes. She’s been alone for 11 yrs so I guess just 1 yr won’t make a difference

This is a rare cat, keep her. I had a similar adoption and it took time but they adjusted. The new arrival became my constant companion. She was delightful, smart, funny, and played fetch like a dog.
She's a beauty, I love her language abilities! And 8 yrs old is young! Our kitty is now 22 yrs and 2 & 1/2 months and still going strong.
Older cats are some of the sweetest, most loving souls you will ever have the fortune to meet on this planet we all share. I adopted a 15 year old cat from my local shelter. Had this same issue with our older cat when I brought home my new shelter kitty last month. Had to keep them gated and slowly introduce a little at a time and make sure each one has their own "home base" in the house, but eventually they got along. Now the older one makes space for her to sit on the window sills and even eats next to her! Acclimatizing cats to new things just takes time and patience. :)
You should look at Jackson Galaxy's advice on how to introduce a new cat into a home where there's already another cat. He is absolutely amazing. Really hope you can keep her!
I did! Unfortunately by the second night Chou would meow her little lungs out, freaking tequila out, and eventually also figured out how to open the door (at night too cos she’s clever like that!) which made it pretty hard to keep them separated 😸

Would have been helpful if you had done a gradual introduction of the 2 cats with Chou in a separate room to start. Oh well, I'm sure things will improve. I am in a similar situation & our 2 cats are now pretty good together. The older one always makes sure she puts the younger cat in her place though with a hiss now & again :)
Yes I agree with that advice. Also i would recommend the calming pheromone room diffuser or spray. Ive used it to introduce new cats and it seems to work.
She can still re-introduce them using those techniques!

You could (should?) try some "introduction" tricks. One of the best is to swap the items they sleep on. That way each one will get used to the scent of the other one, which is really important to cats.
And, of course, keep Chou! 🙏❤️🥰😻

Snowshoe cat!
Ma'am, you made a mistake introducing your cats! You don't put them together right away; you introduce them gradually. Keep Chou in an extra room for at least a week. Give her her own food, water, litter box, toys, and scratching post. Chou and Tequila will go to the door, and they'll be able to smell one another. Then, put like a baby gate in that door, so they can see each other, but not be together. If that goes well, then you can let them be together. But yeah, you put them together WAY too soon!

I would love to adopt her. Several years ago we adopted a young female cat from our favorite animal shelter. She had two big casts on her front legs,so terrified she was under my bed the first few weeks,her voice box was destroyed due to abuse. Now she's a different cat. Happy, bubbly, meows even if it's scratchy sounding, she's in charge of the two dogs and the house.
I'm in love with Chou! I hope you were able to keep her! It is difficult (especially for an older cat) for established cats to accept another one! But I do hope it works out!
