Hooks debut has to be one of the best in recent memory. Has his old man's moveset but instead of having the "Survive if I let you" mantra he's more laid back and quietly confident

As a father, I can hear and feel the emotion in Taz's voice. He's ready to burst with pride. He's got more to learn, but great debut. First Rick Steiner's boy, and now Tazz. My favorites are giving me a new generation to look forward to.

I noticed this, too. He didn't let on about anything, but you could tell that Taz was so proud here. Excited at the start, naming off every single move. It was really cool. Kid has a bright future.

Stuff like this is what I miss about wrestling. This was almost an MMA presentation. Theme music is good and fits him well. His attitude is great, not jumping up and down and hugging people, just business. In the ring it was a short match but he seems to have his basics down. And he's only like 22 years old. Tons of potential.
It wasn't really a short match, It was exactly as long as it needed to be. I've honestly gotten bored of this idea that every single wrestling match has to be 20+ minutes long these days. This is was perfect for what it needed to be.

Can we just enjoy the fact that his dad got to call his son’s debut match? That’s special. Also, this kid has a future. He’s 22 and already has the athleticism and demeanor down. Taz must have been on top of the world watching this, especially because he knows how good his son is. So many parallels between them, plus you give him a great dance partner in Fuego and Excalibur putting him over in all the right ways.

I always love when wrestlers use real grappling disciplines into their wrestling arsenals? It makes the matches look more realistic and makes everything looks so fluid! I love it!

He’ll go no farther than multi-time mid-card champion for a major promotion. Let’s be real, whether he stays Elite or goes elsewhere… he’s not going to be World Champion. Not to say he won’t be great, but compared to the Jerichos, Moxleys, Omegas, Flairs, Austins, Rocks and Hogans… he’s more along the lines of your Billy Gunns, Scott Halls, Curt Hennigs…

Hell, look at all the champions in the past from various promotions… they could actually talk. This kid has been on tv for the last year or so and hasn’t talked more than 15 words in the entire time.

There could be 100,000 active male wrestlers in the world right now and 12 World Championships across 10 promotions. Why do all 100,000 need to be World Champion? Professional wrestling is a scripted competition. If everybody gets a participation trophy (I.E. everybody becoming World Champ to appease you pions) then what’s the point in watching anymore? Is Brandon Cutler gonna be World Champ? Michael Nakazawa? Peter Avalon? Fuego Del Sol? Griff Garrison? Luther? Serpentico? Sonny Kiss?

This was a perfect debut. Hook looked outstanding in his presentation and in-ring work. And Fuego played his role perfectly and made Hook look tremendous. This is genuinely one of my favorite matches of 2021. Hook is going to be a big star in AEW.
Funny that Hook been on TV for over a year, yet his in-ring debut wasn't rushed. Once people actually WANTED to see him in the ring, thats when AEW pulled the trigger.

Taz’s voice was quivering with excitement and emotion. He was obviously trying to pick his words carefully while also trying to stay in control and not lose it. Totally understandable.

I know people have been memeing this kid into godhood, but I don't think anyone figured out what we were supposed to do if he was actually this good!
deadass. he was the Brian Scalabrine or the James Ellsworth of sorts. but then all of a sudden he got in the ring and put on a Ja Morant or a John Cena level rookie showing. he's got a huge fanbase behind him in the meme community, which is pretty much the majority of AEW's audience, and he'll get tons of eyes on him since when 2nd/3rd gen guys debut they never look THAT cool and confident. he's got a chance to be that companies Lesnar, Goldberg, or even Taz haha. and at the same time he is small enough and well versed enough in the biz already that he can adapt and pick up to the moves and the match pacing and hell even whatever style he's gonna wanna have, pretty fucking quickly.

Can’t imagine the nerves a kid that age had to check before debuting in front of a huge audience on a nationally televised show.
Even past the quality of the performance (and credit due to Fuego for being the perfect dance partner) the fact that he didn’t look out of step for more than two seconds during the entire match is REALLY damn impressive.

Hook combines charisma, bright appearance, lively ring skill, and at the same time calm as a lion! In a few years he will be the main champion!

Hook was better than expected. Props to Feugo too. I like how AEW allows everybody to develop their own identity in the ring and they don’t force them to learn a specific style. Hook reminded a lot of these old AEW guys with a basic yet explosive ring style that combines grappling and brawling. His overall charisma, it comes out very natural. It’s one match but looks like a good prospect.
If he’s going to has that kind of style, I’d like to see him bulk up to help sell the presentation.
I absolutely love how he shows no fanfare. He's there to get things done. He comes out, wins, and leaves. No celebrating his victory or anything. Makes him appear like such a badass.
@@johnberry2678 A lot of MMA and Muay Thai guys are actually built the way he does. But of course I understand your point, especially if he's about to wrestle bigger guys. But he can also play to his strengths, and guys like Darby has proven a lot of naysayers wrong.

Loved listening to tazz call this match. Can’t imagine what a thrill that must’ve been for him. Hook looked really good
This was great. Really, really good. I think AEW have something special with hook. My advice is to take it slow, maybe wrestle every two weeks or so and slowly build him up. Very impressed 👍☺️

@@willh2261 He sold things well, but he made things look like a real match that he has a sense of urgency. The crossfaces needs some work, but it's not bad. He wrestles way better than a lot of the guys on Dark tbh.
Gotta say, I haven't watched AEW in a long time but Hook is going to be a star. He is smooth as hell with his moves .

Man I LOVE Hook's wrestling style, a great hybrid fighter with a judo/wrestling/strong-style fusion that nobody else in AEW uses. The guy carries himself and wrestles like a veteran, I would never think that it was his first professional match. Definitely a future star, seems to have it all. Great work Taz, great work.

@@lubbockrabbac485 Yes, but it's slightly different. Hook's is more brutal and aggressive, while Conti's is more traditional Judo mixed with wrestling. Both great styles, but quite different

Guy definitely has something. There were a few mis steps and soft looking bits in there but 100% a great debut match.
He has future star written on him. Carrie's himself like a bigger star for sure

@@CVHFitness I agree, there was a decent flow but the few moments that looked a touch off looked like he was trying to remember the exact match layout they had. If he just went with the swagger and aggression he has, and ad-libbed a bit instead, it would have been twice the debut.
Again though, super positive on him, better than half the roster already.

This is the first AEW match I have watched. Pretty much gave up on modern wrestling but then I heard Taz had a son in AEW. This was great.
I've watched this at least 4 times now. Hook's swagger is incomparable, his style is unique and the smoothness of his moves along with his transitions. This guy is 22 years old and he already has a lot of things most vets don't. Give him a few years and he can the star of the company. You talk about the 4 pillars but hook is the whole damn building. HOOK HAS BEEN SENT EVERYONE.

This needs to be the slowest and greatest push in AEW. I was sold just off the entrance and back turn alone. Please don't rush this. This is a gem no pressure needed.

Hook needs to have 15 month build that makes sense, elevate him to Team Taz's leader and go from there. It's all about the storytelling. Talent is there, the move set is poetry in motion and will grow. How does he become IT?

Love his cool-headed viciousness in this match. It's like a character straight out of Grappler Baki or something. He may have the face of a TikTok influencer, but he's straight up sizzling with charisma on this one.

Hook stands out to me by just being so simple in character. On one hand, he's a heel and a f*ckboy with a bag of chips, but on the other, you are genuinely rooting for his development and rise in the wrestling business. HOOK WAS SENT.
