Stuff like this is what I miss about wrestling. This was almost an MMA presentation. Theme music is good and fits him well. His attitude is great, not jumping up and down and hugging people, just business. In the ring it was a short match but he seems to have his basics down. And he's only like 22 years old. Tons of potential.
It wasn't really a short match, It was exactly as long as it needed to be. I've honestly gotten bored of this idea that every single wrestling match has to be 20+ minutes long these days. This is was perfect for what it needed to be.
This was great. Really, really good. I think AEW have something special with hook. My advice is to take it slow, maybe wrestle every two weeks or so and slowly build him up. Very impressed 👍☺️
This was the first and only time I will watch any aew, I loved Taz and had to watch hook. I'm glad I got to see him, he's gonna be solid for a long time.
Can’t imagine the nerves a kid that age had to check before debuting in front of a huge audience on a nationally televised show. Even past the quality of the performance (and credit due to Fuego for being the perfect dance partner) the fact that he didn’t look out of step for more than two seconds during the entire match is REALLY damn impressive.
This is why i loved the choice of him chewing gum. Gum can calm nerves, and it just fits his DGAF attitude he has. But yes, he was very impressive for his first ever tv match.

Hooked looked good AF. But can we also give credit to Fuego helping him get over instantly. He sold every thing Hook did so well. Mad respect to both of them.
Hook was better than expected. Props to Feugo too. I like how AEW allows everybody to develop their own identity in the ring and they don’t force them to learn a specific style. Hook reminded a lot of these old AEW guys with a basic yet explosive ring style that combines grappling and brawling. His overall charisma, it comes out very natural. It’s one match but looks like a good prospect.
I absolutely love how he shows no fanfare. He's there to get things done. He comes out, wins, and leaves. No celebrating his victory or anything. Makes him appear like such a badass.
@@johnberry2678 A lot of MMA and Muay Thai guys are actually built the way he does. But of course I understand your point, especially if he's about to wrestle bigger guys. But he can also play to his strengths, and guys like Darby has proven a lot of naysayers wrong.

I've watched this at least 4 times now. Hook's swagger is incomparable, his style is unique and the smoothness of his moves along with his transitions. This guy is 22 years old and he already has a lot of things most vets don't. Give him a few years and he can the star of the company. You talk about the 4 pillars but hook is the whole damn building. I’m impressed. Especially his punches. Punches now days are a lost art. Everyone has “weak” fake looking punches. Maybe he’s green and he’s potato’ing him 😅 but it’s refreshing to see a new guy throwing good punches.
Man I LOVE Hook's wrestling style, a great hybrid fighter with a judo/wrestling/strong-style fusion that nobody else in AEW uses. The guy carries himself and wrestles like a veteran, I would never think that it was his first professional match. Definitely a future star, seems to have it all. Great work Taz, great work.
@@lubbockrabbac485 Yes, but it's slightly different. Hook's is more brutal and aggressive, while Conti's is more traditional Judo mixed with wrestling. Both great styles, but quite different

@@mrfluffywuffy6847 well yeah I went a bit far with that, but what I meant is that his match flowed, one thing to the next and was relatively confident. Maybe not veteran, but most certainly not ‘green’ like most people his age.
@@CVHFitness I agree, there was a decent flow but the few moments that looked a touch off looked like he was trying to remember the exact match layout they had. At least his match made sense.
deadass. he was the Brian Scalabrine or the James Ellsworth of sorts. but then all of a sudden he got in the ring and put on a Ja Morant or a John Cena level rookie showing. he's got a huge fanbase behind him in the meme community, which is pretty much the majority of AEW's audience, and he'll get tons of eyes on him since when 2nd/3rd gen guys debut they never look THAT cool and confident. he's got a chance to be that companies Lesnar, Goldberg, or even Taz haha. and at the same time he is small enough and well versed enough in the biz already that he can adapt and pick up to the moves and the match pacing and hell even whatever style he's gonna wanna have, pretty fucking quickly.
Love his cool-headed viciousness in this match. It's like a character straight out of Grappler Baki or something. He may have the face of a TikTok influencer, but he's straight up sizzling with charisma on this one.
In addition to a perfect debut from Hook and a perfect partner in Fuego, I'd like to also shout out that AEW was smart in having Excalibur and TAZ focus on the technical aspects of the match, calling the moves perfectly at every turn. So instead of a match based on emotion, it was all business which helped sell Hook's acumen even more. Hell, TAZ didn't even bad mouth Fuego, which is smart to present it as a real competition not a debut of a legacy. Very smart. AEW gets it.
Even when a Team Taz wrestler is in the ring, Taz is normally pretty good about giving credit where credit is due - even if it can be a little begrudgingly. Best way for heel commentators to work, in my book.
I don't watch AEW more often like others do. This just appears to my recommendation and then tried to watch it. Man, that HOOK gave me that "lightning in the bottle" vibe. I felt his charisma while walking that aisle, then his in-ring performance was the cherry on top.
Only time will tell how far he goes but I’m definitely a fan. He’s got the look, one of the toughest entrance songs and even as a “heel” has the crowd eating out the palm of his hands 🙌🏾.
Waited a year for this. Young Hook didn’t disappoint. Love how he has his own style but mixes it with his dad’s style. Future champ in a couple of years.

His pop is pretty good at cutting promos and with Ricky Starks on the team this kid all the tools he needs to learn the promo craft and become a huge star.
Although Taz will no doubt teach his boy some excellent promo work and ring psychology, Hook could also benefit from something like Dean Malenko's "Silent Violence" gimmick. Certainly AEW's style of product and fanbase would be receptive to a stone silent killer presentation.
It's better if Hook doesn't talk. A few words here and there are fine. But not everyone needs to be jabbering. Team Taz is a faction of strong talkers already, having silent assassins is always good.

What people fail to recognize is how a person’s momentum and centrifugal force can make all the difference in a fight, no matter the size of the fighters. Hook is very impressive and sky’s the limit for him. He will put on a little more mass within the next few months and years.
I saw so much of Taz in Hook. The way he carried himself he walked in that ring like he's been wrestling for 10 plus years and this was his first match. His intensity when he had Fuego in the corner he was flat out vicious. He executed his moves with precision there was no nerves at least on the outside. Even the charisma when he stopped and posed his confidence was off the charts. The only thing he doesn't have at least not at the moment is mic skills only because he hasn't uttered a word yet but this kid has everything else. AEW is sitting on a damn goldmine with this kid they should keep doing what they are doing and give him more time to develop because once he does he's going to be a force to be reckoned with. No pun intended, but he had me hooked. My boy, Hook twisted up FDS like a pretzel and wrapped him up like a Christmas present.
We so close we finna get Hook over 1 mil
As a Judoka, I really love Hooks move set. The thing I love about Judo as it applies to Pro Wrestling is that its all technique. All the opponent has to do is land properly, but the one applying the move HAS to KNOW how to apply it properly. Also S/O to Fuego for helping to make Hook look like a million bucks.
Really appreciate the information.
What people fail to recognize is how a person’s momentum and centrifugal force can make all the difference in a fight, no matter the size of the fighters. Hook is very impressive and sky’s the limit for him. He will put on a little more mass within the next few months and years.
@@djjasonalan8 Yep, he only needs to lose a bit of the babyface and bulk up a touch more and he would look like a decent top carder eventually.
The same things that made his father special make him special. AEW is sitting on a damn goldmine with this kid they should keep doing what they are doing and give him more time to develop because once he does he's going to be a force to be reckoned with. He was so impressive.
I mean half of the wrestlers these days are only popular with what they do in the ring or there inRing personalities and don't know how to cut a promo if he is green on the mic I am fine with that he would need some work sure but other than that his character and his inRing skills are top notch
He really put on a show I was definitely impressed,I hope they use him right.
Hook would totally kill Dominik Mysterio in a fight lmao
Taz even mentions he learned judo before wrestling so yes
