Sourendu Gupta: An emergent symmetry in thermal QCD

Effective long-distance theories of the chiral flavour-dynamics of quarks are known to contain an emergent symmetry. This has no observable consequence for the hadron spectrum, and therefore is not usually recognized as interesting. I show that there are clear implications for the phase structure of QCD, and that, in fact, these have been observed.
