Thank you Kevin Shapiro and Phish!! Some of the best shows of the already-incredible Summer 1998 - cannot wait to hear that 7/17 second set in SBD quality!
Keep up the CD box sets. It’s been so long since St Louis 93! The Dead’s Dave’s Picks series proves you can satisfy both the CD and vinyl collectors. Vinyl isn’t an ideal medium for complete shows and I’m saying this as a guy who owns a record store. Japan, Cypress! You know what the people want!
Never missed a night of Phish at the Gorge. It really is the greatest venue on earth. That summer '98 run changed my life from a HS kid who kind of liked Phish to a full on lifelong devote of this amazing band. It was these shows that altered the course of my life and I cannot wait to own the official release. Thank you so much.
An all-time back-to-back from one of the best venues on the planet. Great to hear soundboard quality. The only thing I miss from the AUD is the guy in the crowd yelling "yeeaaaaah, Mike!" when Cactus takes his solo in tube.
I have an old point and shoot photo of this too with all sorts of sun flares and haze. Pretty much looks how it felt to be there :) Never thought to blow it up though. Good thinking!
The fog and light show on that 2001 was mind blowing swirling over us on the floor. Will never forget this show and that moment and so many others like that ya mar and the gumbo, the fricking mikes second jam trey and page connect on the deepest level and then mike and fish slide in to open this weekapaug and oh goddamn the weekapaug start stop jam has to be the highest level of phish improv ever?!?...7-17-98 is my favorite show every song burns, thank you PHISH
I agree. Best show I've ever seen live. I remember asking around to see if anyone knew the name of the killer new groove..Moma Dance. We were selling tiedye in the 90s and the Shakedown back then was sick!
I rode a bicycle thousands of miles (roughly 5000) to be at the gorge twice. Completely ruined me on indoor music forever. "Wtf are these chairs doing here!?" I also prefer a 3 month warm up bike ride before music now. Thanks phish....
Absolutely phenomenal sound quality! Reliving some wonderful moments in time I considered myself lucky to be alive. Sensational vibrations, and for me these are the sounds of pure happiness. Nothing but good memories. Thank you so very much Phish.
that summer was so incredible if memory serves portland meadows was 7/15/98 what a run, that got released as well too right?...was certainly one of my favorite shows an incredible limb by limb, moma, horn, harry hood, that beautiful ambient jam, and a tweezer with "california love" every show after 97 having gone through so many phases they shot for the moon and they were so sharp in any genre. My dream jukebox with musicians and CK5:) great times last of my teen years but i was a kid and still remember the shows I attended so vividly sound and scenery what amazing art. I remember my crazy/creative friend, we all have them, during slave sayin if aliens landed on the planet and saw this they would be impressed lol 😊🙌👏
What a surprise to wake up to the other morning! I had to read the email twice because I couldn't believe this weekend got the deluxe box set treatment. I was certain that night 2 would eventually get an archive release, but this way better! For me this was the first time at the Gorge. First time at Phish. Hooked forever! Seriously my favorite memory from my 20s and it really did change my life in a good way. I still listen to taped recordings of both shows a couple times or more a year. They sound like a sweet but distant memory and I adore them. This first Slave swept me away back then, so this SBD preview was a welcome treat. Can't wait to hear the whole thing sounding like it was yesterday!
This going to be a fantastic release! I was a couple years too young to make it to the Gorge in 98' so I'm pretty excited to have this one. These samples are ridiculously tight, consistent, energetic and funky!
I was at these shows and it was awesome !! Showed up in a shirt and shorts unprepared for the cold nights. I ended up buying a Phish / Gorge fleece from the gift shop and some awesome patchwork corduroy pants from an awesome lady on the lot. She let me try them on in their school bus, if that was you, Thanks sister !! Saved my ass, literally. I still have the cords, ex girlfriend took the fleece, lol.
Well did I tell you about worst phish Festival? Yeah cause there's no such thing went first 3 and Bonnaroo 1,3,5,7, First 5Lockn and last one was my fare-thee-well at that venue is gorgeous though
Also I couldn't imagine doing another tour as a 1st time I did 1-20 ending at lemonwheel which was my last Phish Festival so means I'm due my last show was last year this time wish they were going to be here again maybe I'll get blessed with '23 NYS or Mexican Cousin hooks me!!
24 years ago. 24 years before "Smells Like Teen Spirit", dropped, the number 1 record in the US was "Ode to Billie Joe" by Bobbie Gentry, which had replaced "All You Need is Love" by the Beatles.
I have to ask a question about Phish that I was asked once. And when I was asked this question I at first was avoiding the simple honesty answer from my heart and sound cool.
Was my first experience at the 2nd or 3rf best outside venue hands down I accidentally sold my tixfor Sat night then I was chilling'on top of RV next door and wham I made a few dollars enough for gas but the experience is legendary
Yessss!!! I was there. I called the Julius night one. That divided sky was so surreal. Holding that note forever till sun went down, then going bananas. Nothing new. Old songs. Yessss, yess, yes!!!!!!

Period.
Dope. 👍 Now we need a Japan 2000 and all of Big Cypress. Did you hear me over there…. I said WE NEED JAPAN 2000 AND BIG CYPRESS BOX SETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“The 2000 Set” 1999>2001
I think they got some of Japan 2000 already but we definitely need the Big Cypress box set

Deer Creek 98 box set
Literally, EVERY Phan’s prayers were answered with this one, thank you!!!!
This tube is the best one ever played by the band and I never say that about any version of any song. It's the best. Period.
Slave is one of the most beautifully written songs of all time.

This is peak Phish IMO
a panoramic photo of this show hangs over my tv... 30 inches long, from a disposable camera... love that you posted this.. so many blessings

This was an incredible weekend at the Gorge. Longest 2001 ever and the crowd was awesome.

WOW! Wish i had seen them back in these days... i need a time machine.
phish at their peak around this time
I think they were the best rock band of the 90s. Lucky enough to see around 40 shows from 93 to 99. Every year was something different.

There is a real intimate nature to the recording. Incredible dynamic depth.
Really enjoyed that run of shows!
That whole tour was the bomb.

My girlfriend/now wife and I were at these shows. Hella fun. She’s not too much into them anymore, but I’m still sharing in the groove.
My girls favorite song is "Weigh"
I'm alive but it's a cloudy day
To me this was pinnacle Phish. Portland, both nights at the Gorge, and Ventura. And that's after seeing a few of the 97 fall shows. Dayton included
This going to be a fantastic release! I was a couple years too young to make it to the Gorge in 98' so I'm pretty excited to have this one. These samples are ridiculously tight, consistent, energetic and funky!
this tube is pure essence

FINALLY. We need like one box set a year of REAL tangible shows you can look at and read about in liner notes.
Agree! Now wish they'd actual give some liner notes in these releases.
