The Stieglitz Museum of Decorative and Applied Arts is one of the most significant museums in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
In 1878 Baron Alexander von Stieglitz (1814-84), a millionaire philanthropist, donated funds to build a museum to accommodate Stieglitz's private collection of rare glassware, porcelains, tapestries, furniture, and tiled stoves.
Baron von Stieglitz wanted this museum to benefit studies of students of the Central School of Engineering Design, which he had established earlier.
The Stieglitz Museum of Decorative and Applied Arts was constructed between 1885 and 1896.
The museum’s building is an example of Neo-Renaissance.
Interiors of some of the halls are styled so as to conform with items exhibited therein.
