    😂😂😂😂 Hilarious! I am Italian but know some English and your “translation” is just brilliant! This shows how my dad’s generation, who didn’t know English but still enjoyed American music, would only “imitate” the sounds they heard, without knowing the language. My dad, who played in a band in the Seventies, still laughs at it! And as you also said, Celentano had a provocative intent when writing the song. Thank you, very interesting!

    Dirty badass groove this song has... the song was way ahead of its time - it really doesn't sound like something from the 70's. The initial analysis is spot on really, he was trying to sound like how Bob Dylan and other similar artists of the time sounded to him. He has said in the past it's about "universal love". I feel if we all transcribed how the gobbledegook lyrics sound like to us - we'd all come out with something wildly different, there are some pretty funny ones out there. Everyone should hear this song.

    Have you seen the black and white dancing video they also made of this song? The "marching discotheque" vibe of that one really brings that slightly terrifying feeling you mentioned to the forefront.

      i have many times yes!! youre so right, the black and white one is much more unsettling. something about the lipsyncing feels so off too haha. also you should totally use "eyes" - some friends and i have adopted it as a self-contained statement and its sooo good. we also like to swap out similar words (like "eggs") but said in the same way as "eyes" and it really works for us haha

      @@lander-landed Iʻve also been practicing that magnificently extended tongue roll for certain occasions.
      The thing I like about the black and white video (which was how I first heard this song) is the dancing is *so* stiff, so choreographed to within an inch of its life, but everyone on screen is throwing absolutely EVERYTHING they have into that performance. That thing she does with her arms after her solo, in particular.
      If I had not known the age of this video, my first instinct would have been to consider it a commentary on the quality of education in the US currently. He would not be so terribly out of place here talking to students that way, especially in Texas.

    The lyrics of Prisencolinensinainciusol are clearly a meditation on love and loss: whether it's more tragic to slowly grow apart, passion withering in frost as lovers fade into mutually unrecognizable shadows of their former selves, or to suffer a sudden, devastating breakup, but at least know that your beloved is out there, somewhere, living their best life, even if it is with someone else. And like so many other profound works, Prisencolinensinainciusol is framed by the existential angst of being condemned to a tragically brief lifespan in a cold, unfeeling universe.

    Elika Lander, I know this song from the 70's. I am 63 years old and I know this singer from the old times. He is original, unique and one of a kind in the world. I am of italian origin and he is from Italy. He is an activist for animals and nature. Like Greta Thumberg. Plus he is an activist for maltreatments of humans and animals. For years he has been speaking out publicly about this. I love this guy so much. This song tops off the cake. It's for the whole world to understand even if you don't understand his language. The music, and beat says it all. I Never get tired of it. It will never die.

    This was an awesome analysis (yes, I went looking for one)! I have to say that I'm in the US and I heard the song for the first time on the American FX TV series Trust. I did feel like the song was in Italian bc I couldn't discern the English. Very clever ear trickery 😂. The video was icing on the cake.

    Hello Elika! I really enjoyed your analysis. Very nice! About the title, it has always struck me as perfectly understandable English with a meaning in your English version of the lyrics at that. Just swap the last two syllables for a clue: ciusol -> solcius -> Celcius (Centigrade). How about this: "Freezing cold in ninety-nine °Celcius" - which is nearly boiling water. I have seen relationships that could have fit that description at times! =D
    Anyway. That’s my penny’s worth. =) Have a nice day and stay safe!

    Also did you notice his arm mooves in perfect "pre-Tony Manero" style...

    Your analysis sounds logical to me. You reminded me of people "speaking jive" in the movie Airplane, but that got translated for us. Being a native American English speaker myself, I have difficulty understanding the lyrics of most songs in English. Performers are barfing out words in ways my brain just doesn't understand. It's all gibberish to me. At least with Prisencolinensinainciusol, I'm not missing anything while listening to it.

    Well, we sank our shoes in the hillbilly scene
    In a hurry maybe we can color boss time
    Brrrrr, chance in mind, with heat and cold,
    We maybe should stay at New Johou
    When we sank our shoes in the hillbilly scene,
    If we hurry, baby, we can color boss tie
    Whether she stained it with coffee or steam,
    You gotta tell her that Jessica's papers are jammed
    You be comin' up, choose my wife,
    I'm not sure, Oklahoma,
    Just get her undercover no time
    What's the difference to Stan when you
    Choose your cummerband?
    You can just tell them that Carl's afraid of girls...
    Oh, Sunday
    My eyes can't translate, and it hurts the girl with hazel eyes
    And they called and they say they're
    Freezin' cold and dancing their shoes off;
    All right!
    My eyes might translate, and it hurts the girl with hazel eyes
    Freezin' cold and dancing their shoes off;
    All right!
    What else you know, Skipper?
    I been keepin' the scene;
    Got to choose the number golf hole
    Hard to contain where phrases go
    We can see him in the stand, we can shoot the cummerband;
    There's just too many cars and over 400 lives at stake
    My eyes might translate, and it hurts the girl with hazel eyes
    And they called and they say, " We're freezing cold and dancing our shoes off;"
    All right!
    What else you got, girls? "We got Adam and Dawn;
    Let's pay for that action like Britt Guillaume
    My eyes can't translate, and it hurts the girl with hazel eyes
    And they called and they say they're freezin' cold and dancing their shoes off;
    All right!
    What else you got, Curtis? We got Adam and Dawn,
    Let's pay for that action like Britt Guillaume...

    If you listen to the spoken part at the beginning where Celentano is teaching the class - he says "Prisencolinensinainciusol" and the beginning part sounds like "Freezing cold in here". This is surely what Italians learning English think the English would say a lot. There are lots of cold references including the "Brrrr" - so I think the whole song is also poking fun of the English obsession with talking about the weather.
