Though I’ve only recently (okay, yesterday) became aware of Ponant , I’m so glad to see your tour. What a wonderful opportunity to be the loud obnoxious American that is despised. But seriously, it longs like they have many cultural-themed cruises that are very intriguing. Thanks for the overview!

Very interesting. Thank you very much for the tour. I will have to research this cruise line for cost and itineraries. So I would call that a very successful video. You never fail. Thanks, again!

Thank you so much Patrick. This cruise line is certainly one to consider if you like small ship cruising. We can't wait to try them ourselves. :)

Beautiful ship! Many fond memories - stayed on the L'Austral in my trip to Antarctica back in 2016.

Oh wow! How did she cope with the Drake Passage?

@@visitwithus Everything in my room ended up on the floor! I remember seeing waves wash over by balcony and I genuinely thought we were going to sink. One of the scariest moments of my life as I've never been in such rough seas before.
The ship itself handled the passage just fine. The passengers - not so much!
Everyone got seasick on the way to Antarctica and the nurse gave each of us a magic pill that stopped the world from spinning. The ocean was a lot rougher on the way back and we tried to sleep through it.
Heh was 16 at the time and I remember trading some Indomie instant noodles with the barkeeper lad for Pina Coladas! We never got caught LOL.
My mother and I tagged along with a mainland Chinese group (we're from Hong Kong) that booked out the entire ship for the Antarctica trip. Everyone was so nice. I recall acting as an ad-hoc interpreter between the ship crew and Chinese guests. Will never forget the night we wrapped and cooked dumplings at the fancy restaurant for the entire staff.
I was so surprised by the amount of wildlife and nature I saw at Antarctica. So beautiful and serene...though penguins absolutely smell horrible.
Hands down the best trip I've ever been on by a long shot!

Fantastic video. Loved the stateroom. Somewhat ambivalent over the public rooms and lounges. They looked a bit like what the 1970's thought the 21st century was supposed to look like.

Haha! Love your analogy of the public areas! I think we didn't see them at their best to be honest. We were on board on changeover day and some of the areas weren't fully ready for the new guests. I guess we'll have to sail on Ponant to give you the more accurate assessment. :)

Helloooo! So good to hear from you and thank you for the compliment. :) It's not our best unfortunately as we didn't really have enough time on board to capture everything, but we were still pleased with what we managed to put together (so were Ponant - phew)! Hopefully see you soon on a future ship visit. Got any lined up? :) Oh, and please subscribe to our channel - we'd be really pleased if you did. :D

Thanks for watching! Yes, you're right. These were all handheld and it takes a big of core strength to keep it shake free lol! :D Ooh, thank you for your email BTW, sorry I've not responded, I've been MAD busy but I will soon. :)

I understand that now the line is not French but was bought by a European consortium.

  • @derekt7606

Looks rather compact. Too much French for my taste.

    • @visitwithus
      @visitwithus  5 лет назад +1

You're right, it is compact. Only the one small pool at the rear because the middle section houses the Zodiacs (it's geared up to be an expedition ship, rather than a Med cruiser). And yep, it's as French as Gerard Depardieu driving a Renault van full of large baguettes.

Derek T I checked the size of cabins, and compared to mass market ones, they were generous, over 200 sq ft compared to 160-170 sq ft for basic cabins. So I do not think they are small.

On larger ships, you get more people, and the space ratio is higher on luxury ships anyway.

If say one's French is truly atrocious, speaking and reading English a problem?
