Correct. I was learning state capitals in 4th grade, I don’t even need to know that as an adult. You can’t tell me that even comes remotely close to making sense. The bulk majority of my learning came from me attending college. But now that I’ve graduated, I’ve spent the bulk majority of my time learning life skills & lessons that I should of learned as a kid. Whites seemed as though they are millennia ahead sometimes; I truly feel sometimes that they are living ahead of time and we are living behind it! Our respective educations are not equivalent or even compatible in this country.

I used to work with homeless vets and learned that every time a vet moves to a new region they have to register with that local VA hospital to resume their medical care. I could understand having to update addresses and contact info but to have to go through everything from scratch for the same entity? It shouldn't have to be like changing from Blue Cross to Cigna. Makes no sense.

What's awful is that fighting the angry Black woman stereotype is hard when other women love fulfilling that role. I've worked in customer service since I was a teenager (VARIOUS jobs) and I've always been told I'm super nice as an insult, usually by another black woman. I know it's hard to be happy around other miserable colleagues and customers but your attitude can sometimes make people feel better if you're treating them with decency.
The stereotype is built into the racism as well. I got a new driver’s license in March and the lady refused to print any pictures with me smiling. Said something about her system indicating that my eyes were closed. The only picture that she accepted was the one that I took after my other pictures had been rejected several times, the one picture that I looked angry and annoyed in. I can agree with the whole notion that “people do treat you better when you smile at them“ thing because I’ve experienced it. Plus I see people of other races use the tactic to get better treatment. Black men are taught to mean mug each other before we smile so as to not look weak, but all men of all other races understand that that shit is just stupid because how the fuck are we going to agree to work together if we’re both on the defensive? I know it seems petty but I cannot wait until the COVID-19 Restrictions are lifted because I want to visit a new DMV and take another picture of myself smiling. I’ve had people work harder to sell me a car all because I was smiling in my driver’s license photo
This is why I always try and handle as much as I can online when it comes to government services. I know there are times when you have to go into the office, and when that happens, I always make sure I am already fed and mentally prepared. Because its like a full time job with all the waiting and transferring they make you do.

It's GOVERNMENT WORKERS (PERIOD). Not just black government workers. Every time I have to go up there they have attitudes- black, white, asian, male, or female.
Hope Stewart You're right in regards to some governmental agencies. At the end of the day, it's the culture that must change. It has to start from the top. Core values must be reinforced and required to see a change in attitudes.
I think it's just customer service jobs in general. I am still in school so I don't have too many options yet, but as I catch attitudes from customers from the time I clock in to the time I clock out. I try not to be the "black woman with an attitude" and reset my mind with each new person, but people who work customer service are human too.
YES! People don't know how hard it is to be happy and smiling with the next customer after you've just been cussed out by the last one. What customers don't seem to realize is that WE have feelings, too (what they also don't seem to realize is that giving us attitude and cussing us oftentimes causes their eggs to be cracked, their chips to be crushed, their nails, hair, or makeup fucked up, or their loan denied).
TheyHeart Rae it's definitely customer service jobs. I'm in college too so all I can work is customer service jobs or fast food and I refuse to do fast food lol. I've worked customer service for almost 2 years and as much as it's a negative experience to customers to receive bad service, it's also one for us to try to smile and greet everyone and provide great service especially when you're understaffed and a customer is disrespecting you every 5 seconds.

I worked for IL and I can attest that state government technology/filing is usually archaic. There's also a ridiculous amount of red tape that prevents timely change/innovative collaboration. Funding is the biggest issue, but there's much more bureaucracy that ties it up.

I've encountered as a Afro American woman on a daily GOING to Walmart, a bank, government agency when you call to ask questions the rudeness and unprofessional tone. Majority of black women have attitude problems and I'm a black woman saying this because I encounter it or notice it a lot. I take it personal when I see them act nasty towards a individual who comes to them asking questions about something pertaining to their jobs.

I can speak to this from the employee's perspective as I've been in the space where I felt like people in governmental agencies have always had attitudes too. People who work for government agencies are some of the most unappreciated, overworked, abused people in the workforce. Particularly if you're a decent person with a halfway decent work ethic. In most cases, you have people who's thought process is to show up and get a check - no more, no less... so, that puts extra work on the people who ARE there to work because they're forced to pick up the slack because unions prevent half-ass employees from being FORCED to pull their weight... So, there's that frustration from the gate. Additionally, you have to understand that dealing with any social service agency where you give away ANYTHING, you have a certain segment of the population who is in NEED who feels ENTITLED and like you work to SERVE them and not assist them. I worked at an agency that paid people's rent, mortgage and utilities for five months out of the year if you were in need... all you were required to do is sit down and let me interview you for 15 minutes and explain what happened with your income for that month that left you with an eviction/late notice, or a red notice for your utility bill. You can't imagine how many times I've had clients curse me out, tell me what they think of MY effort to help them keep a roof over their heads, etc. I once had a lady tell me, "It don't make no sense to put somebody through all of this just to get their rent paid!" Mind you, she hadn't paid rent in like 4 months and I was about to cut a check for THOUSANDS to save her and all she had to do was tell me a summarized version of what's been going on these last few months... I lost it and asked her if she knew what I had to do in order to get MY rent paid... sit and listen to MF's who complain about a 15 minute interview to get rent money for TEN hours per day for TWO weeks straight!I've had people tell me, "You work for ME... I"M the client!" I had a client come in once and after nearly finishing the interview, I got to the financial piece and said, "OK... so, what happened with your money this month - why weren't you able to pay your rent?" He says, "My rent is paid this month..." Confused, I asked why he was there, "I'm talking about next month's rent!"... (confused some more) "OK, how do you know that you're not going to be able to pay next month's rent already?"... "I'm taking my kids to Disneyland..." OK... so, you're going to take them to Disneyland instead of paying your rent?!?... (With MUCH 'tude) "TF you mean, MF... my kids deserve a vacation!!"... No, TF YOU mean, MF... they also deserve somewhere to live when they come BACK from vacation!"We got cursed out all day every day. People who had NO understanding. People who, no matter how many times and how many different WAYS you explain things, they see things the way THEY want to see it. You ever see that video clip of the lady who says she has 15 kids and, "SOMEBODY needs to make sure that her children have a way to eat and SOMEBODY better make sure her kids are taken care of!"? Try dealing with 15 of those ladies EVERY single day of the work week. You don't go INTO it with an attitude, but I had to get out before I became one of those people you're speaking about. There's a LOT of behind the scenes stuff that you all don't see. They put a lot of pressure on you at governmental agencies behind the scenes as well and they don't care how overworked you are, they consistently add more to your plate. So, it's not always as it seems. Those people are STRESSED and I know because I've been in that seat.

the gag is is that they expect to wait us out so we will get disgusted about the time frame in which we need those services and that we will look somewhere else and let the government keep holding money that our families have put into over years but it's on purpose that these waiting out situations taking you all through the mill situation telling you to get this paperwork situations it's on purpose it's on purpose I believe that same thing with unemployment
I think that's true too but, if it was one of their family members or a friend of a friend asking about it, they would give that person all the shortcuts and possibly fill the application out for them placing code words on it to make sure they get in without the wait.

I went to a session of the state legislature and they purposefully change the application requirement for children's health insurance program to every six month to increase attrition and therefore keep the program within budget. They were counting on people forgetting to renew or missing those appointments every six months. That was an eye-opening experience.
Some of the very people servicing you are on government assistance too. And you do have a point. When I was in law school the heffa told me I did not qualify for food stamps b/c I was working on a second degree! Da fuq!? Why do you think I'm working on getting a 2nd degree!? Funny some of my other friends that went to this white dude in there got them with no problem. But the hating black woman denied me. Go figure l! 😒

When I was in college, I wasn't working at the time, and I was living on my own, I needed food stamps and applied, the lady told me with the meanest attitude," you don't qualify because you're in college" meanwhile she told me to bring all my college paperwork with me, just to shut me down. I used to work with the State. I never fit in with those people. I worked in family assistance and a lot of those girls think very low of the people who would come in for benefits. Like they weren't one job away from being in that situation.
You are right. I am old enough to remember back in the stone age when we were not allowed to work in any office unless it was in a custodial aspect. Now they have us as the gatekeeper and just say no customer service reps. Evidently, the number one qualification is to have a frown and to be unpleasant, or maybe even downright rude. I have always thought they do this because they know how some of us act up when seeking public assistance of any kind, due to the frustrating nature of the process we can be nasty to the folks at the desk who are just biding time until it is time for a break, lunch, and quitting time. It is unfortunate for the folks sitting at the desk, who probably thought they had a job that would allow them to be of service, but all they do is call out numbers and sometimes get cussed out. This is just a point of view from the street committee, by one of the long-time observers of our behavior on both sides of the desk.

Yes! Whenever I need to go to the MVA (DMV) for anything, it's an attitude. Even over the phone. They always look like they don't want to be there. Same goes for the State Assistance/Child Support building. Girl, stop.
I've never had issues with black women workers yes I've ran across the attitude of government office workers but they don't always be black. sometimes the people who walk up to the front desk be having the attitudes and don't nobody wanna be bothered with a woman who's got kids and don't watch them when handling they business

honey , I tried to buy a house through a couple of government programs. needless to say they both had me waiting for years and years taking classes and all that other type of stuff , mind you I was ready to buy the house from day one, had the money for the down payment and they still sent me through the loops and loops and loops okay. to make a long story short I left them alone ,contacted me a realtor and purchased the house within a few months. if I was waiting on the government's programs, I would still be waiting
In Los Angeles, this is common of ALL races, not just Black women. There are plenty of overworked, unappreciated, and jaded people at my job. Many of the people we come in contact have this sense of entitlement when seeking these programs. Please take that into consideration.
I live in NYC in a Jewish community and I can tell you some examples that could piece together the black communities divide. I noticed in the community I live in they do not need to go to must offices like HUD, WIC and so on the have them right here in the community and the office is not clearly labled so only they know about it. I noticed this just last month while waiting for the bus to go to college ( I am getting my MBA) they moved the WIC office across the street so I so the sign. I have noticed of the years this same apoach is done by must communities that are non-black .
Girl I'm from NYC and you are speaking the truth! Williamsburg and Crown Heights...oh let's not forget Borough Park. Their community have everything for tthem...schools, bakery shops,etc..
SCharitysBakery I live in London & I'm currently working with a Jewish family. They live in a home worth about £1.8 mill. The area they live in mostly consists of Jews, & this is the part of suburban London that has some of the largest & most expensive homes. I'm talking average 2-3 million pounds. They mostly shop in their own supermarkets. They are highly skilled people & are mostly lawyers & doctors, so most of the help they need can be found within their communities. Families are extremely close. They are very peaceful placid ppl. You go to a black community it is the opposite, high crime, high unemployment rate & govt funded housing. I've always wondered, how these people with a traumatic background similar to ours, where they were killed for their culture, yet they managed to come out the other side winning?? We need to realise the problem isn't the system. The problem lies with us.
When I tell you I needed this video on today!!! Had to go to the SSI office with my mom and walk through the snow just to get from my spot to the place, get up to the window and the lady is being both rude and condescending while trying to clarify my mother's needs, just to wait and be called back to a pleasant white man that helps us with a smile with some stuff that could've been taken care of over the phone...Girl 😒😒 To go through that and feel the frustration of different people saying different things on the same policy 😠

11:20 truth! Dineva I closed on a house 11/28 last year. I worked with a buying agent, because I had no clue about owning property. She told me about USDA loan, which is a first time home buying program. Even though the loan is through dept of agriculture and was originally for farmers and rural home buyers, things have changed. Now, about 90% of cities in US qualify for USDA. I make $24k as a flight attendant and wasn't sure if I was being too ambitious for wanting to own a home. Credit score in 700s, but nowhere near perfec. Look into USDA to see if where you are in ATL qualifies. I'm in Jacksonville, FL paying $776/mortgage on 3/2 house built in 2002...30 year fixed 3.25% interest rate..no money down. I avoided the whole HUD thing and dealing with the government. USDA is guaranteed loan, but it has to first go through a traditional bank's underwriting. Once it goes through the bank, USDA then takes your file and approves it. When buying a home, this program is rarely brought up, probably because it's so beneficial to the buyer and less so for the banks. All the best. This video was to real!
I'm an early 1970's kid and I remember when my mom used to go to the government buildings to handle business and had to drag me along. At, that time most of the people were white me. And a few women. As times moved on and changes occurred their became more black woman were applying for those positions because now they are available to blacks and black women were the ones that needed and want those jobs other than being a maid. With this came the impossibility to move up so many have been stuck in those positions or offices for 30+ years with now breeds a down trotted employee and bad attitude and when you have people coming in day after day with maybe similar attitudes it is not a pretty scene. So now you have the white men and few women that have moved up but now those same jobs require a degree to get it and now these people who once thought that they could move up eventuality like their predecessors it will not happen unless they go back to school or obtain some kind of higher learning. So not they are almost trapped there. This system is so deep and a lot of the comments hit on some of the things that come along with crap of it all.
I think sometime it is a matter of frustration for the workers. As a minority you are already seen a certain way in the workforce, especially a predominantly white place of work, then to have to deal with the "stereotypical" black person all day is frustrating and frankly embarrassing. In this society white people are allowed to be ignorant AND educated, whereas in our culture ONE ignorant Black person represents ALL Black people. That is how some see it anyway and it makes it hard so folks want to separate themselves from that stereotype. it's way deeper then "Black women with attitudes."
Also to your point about not seeing any other ethnicity or race working these jobs, maybe that is frustrating to. Maybe these women have been there 10+ years and have seen people with less experience and education move past them professionally. These are not excuses for bad customer service of course because we all have options. But to say you hope the government privatizes certain programs I hope you understand that includes the program you are seeking to assist you with buying a house.
Where I live in Maryland the people serving you were once in your shoes. Assistance programs make job training mandatory, and the jobs they are training for are those of the unemployment agency and DSS. They would rather pay them to sit on the opposite side of the counter and perform a remedial service than pay them to sit at home and do nothing. These people have grown accustomed to the attitudes that come in the door because they have often displayed those same attitudes. Now the only difference is they feel a since of accomplishment and arrogance because they were "given" a position, because they definitely didn't earn it, and have decided to forget all the bs that comes with sitting in those lobbies for hours only to be turned away. "Work ain't honest but it pays the bills"

That is true, now my mother retired from the department of public aid office in Illinois and she loved it and I would run into so many people that would say how kind she was. Omg, truth!! and the process and flow is no different throughout the nation. I've noticed in my state (NC) depending on city, the front desk workers and even majority behind the scenes workers often use attitude, rudeness, and overwhelming guidelines to discourage people from moving further with various goals/process. It is very sad. They create depression and anxiety within others so very easily.

One of the best things to do, is if you find a Non-Profit organization that specializes in Housing Counseling. Often there is only one counselor over the Housing Counseling services, as they have to be certified and certification, of course costs. One of the best things you can do is find a non-profit, preferably one that has been certified with a program called NieghborWorks. They're not only HUD compliant and will will offer the same amount of government "services" but with out the government experience. I worked in one of Houston's wards as a grantwriter and found that the government's wheels do grind slowly, and most certainly attitudes do flair up from time to time from both sides of the window. Just stay positive, I know it can be hard, but that's what you got to do.
I concur 100%. I'm new to Atlanta and i went to DFAC and i had to report security to his bosses boss for being disrespectful. These people really hate their jobs. I brother like me would be happy to make that lil piece of change.

I live in Charlotte and the government services up here is ridiculous. I went to one building because on the website it listed that address as the location. Got to the location and walked in just to see a table with flyers saying the social security office moved. So I get to the new location of the social security office and there was NO WHERE to park. I waited almost 2 hours at the social security place to sign one form and get a new social security card just so I could apply for my passport. Then had to go to another building for the passport. I was over it lol
I agree. Anytime I have to take care of that type of business I tries my best to do via phone or internet. However, if I do have to do in person baby I am well fed, bladder empty, snacks, good reading material, sweater, etc......Good luck to ya!
It's really not a black woman thing. It's a state/gov't employee thing. Yes most state and government employees have great benefits but most of them are also vastly underpaid & overworked. I worked for the state and most people really do start off wanting to help people but when you're barely surviving on a weak ass salary sometimes that shit carries over & effects your ability to provide customer service with a smile. I still work in social services but I moved my talents to a company whose coin matches my passion

I think people forget government jobs are like any other workplace, they have budget constraints as well AND their money comes from the people, they may not pay as much because of this. On the flip side the benefits make up for it in most cases. While the pay maybe lower, you save on benefits. For some, they may find another job in the private sector that pays more but, the benefits will costs more in many cases.
I had to deal with that wage shit.I sent in a form that was from the Soc.Sec Office that had my Disability Benefits.It was full benefits that shows it’s not partial Soc.so you know I’m not working.They tell me I need proof of no income for this particular program that I’m applying for.Im Disabled and have issues walking and I don’t drive.How am I suppose to get that and why do I need it when I’m on full disability? I think it’s Atlanta because I’m fro PA and the business gets handled completely different.

I'm a property manager that assigns rental assistance and no we don't get paid enough but almost all our supervisors are white. it's like we don't get promoted either. but everyone deserves to be treated with respect and courtesy

My mentality in reference to applying and receiving public assistance is that it is temporary. I would use it to save as much as I possibly can so that when it comes time to renew I won't have to. Folks get on assistance and become complacent. It could be that the black folks behind these government agencies that deal with the public think that "all you black ppl are the same." They may end up feeding into the believing the stereotypes about their own ppl and not using their own position to bring ppl over. Enlighten & encourage others. There could be some resentment at the fact that they're not in the same position as you are. I do agree it is systemic. Unfortunately our community is already divided. Things like this just keeps it going.

What's awful is that fighting the angry Black woman stereotype is hard when other women love fulfilling that role. I've worked in customer service since I was a teenager (VARIOUS jobs) and I've always been told I'm super nice as an insult, usually by another black woman. I know it's hard to be happy around other miserable colleagues and customers but your attitude can sometimes make people feel better if you're treating them with decency.

The stereotype is built into the racism as well. I got a new driver’s license in March and the lady refused to print any pictures with me smiling. Said something about her system indicating that my eyes were closed. The only picture that she accepted was the one that I took after my other pictures had been rejected several times, the one picture that I looked angry and annoyed in.
I can agree with the whole notion that “people do treat you better when you smile at them“ thing because I’ve experienced it. Plus I see people of other races use the tactic to get better treatment. Black men are taught to mean mug each other before we smile so as to not look weak, but all men of all other races understand that that shit is just stupid because how the fuck are we going to agree to work together if we’re both on the defensive? This is why I always try and handle as much as I can online when it comes to government services. I know there are times when you have to go into the office, and when that happens, I always make sure I am already fed and mentally prepared. Because its like a full time job with all the waiting and transferring they make you do.

I think it's just customer service jobs in general. I am still in school so I don't have too many options yet, but as I catch attitudes from customers from the time I clock in to the time I clock out. I try not to be the "black woman with an attitude" and reset my mind with each new person, but people who work customer service are human too.
YES! People don't know how hard it is to be happy and smiling with the next customer after you've just been cussed out by the last one. What customers don't seem to realize is that WE have feelings, too (what they also don't seem to realize is that giving us attitude and cussing us oftentimes causes their eggs to be cracked, their chips to be crushed, their nails, hair, or makeup fucked up, or their loan denied).
TheyHeart Rae it's definitely customer service jobs. I'm in college too so all I can work is customer service jobs or fast food and I refuse to do fast food lol. I've worked customer service for almost 2 years and as much as it's a negative experience to customers to receive bad service, it's also one for us to try to smile and greet everyone and provide great service especially when you're understaffed and a customer is disrespecting you every 5 seconds.

I worked for IL and I can attest that state government technology/filing is usually archaic. There's also a ridiculous amount of red tape that prevents timely change/innovative collaboration. Funding is the biggest issue, but there's much more bureaucracy that ties it up.

I can speak to this from the employee's perspective as I've been in the space where I felt like people in governmental agencies have always had attitudes too. People who work for government agencies are some of the most unappreciated, overworked, abused people in the workforce. Particularly if you're a decent person with a halfway decent work ethic. In most cases, you have people who's thought process is to show up and get a check - no more, no less... so, that puts extra work on the people who ARE there to work because they're forced to pick up the slack because unions prevent half-ass employees from being FORCED to pull their weight... So, there's that frustration from the gate. Additionally, you have to understand that dealing with any social service agency where you give away ANYTHING, you have a certain segment of the population who is in NEED who feels ENTITLED and like you work to SERVE them and not assist them. I worked at an agency that paid people's rent, mortgage and utilities for five months out of the year if you were in need... all you were required to do is sit down and let me interview you for 15 minutes and explain what happened with your income for that month that left you with an eviction/late notice, or a red notice for your utility bill. You can't imagine how many times I've had clients curse me out, tell me what they think of MY effort to help them keep a roof over their heads, etc. I once had a lady tell me, "It don't make no sense to put somebody through all of this just to get their rent paid!" Mind you, she hadn't paid rent in like 4 months and I was about to cut a check for THOUSANDS to save her and all she had to do was tell me a summarized version of what's been going on these last few months... I lost it and asked her if she knew what I had to do in order to get MY rent paid... sit and listen to MF's who complain about a 15 minute interview to get rent money for TEN hours per day for TWO weeks straight!I've had people tell me, "You work for ME... I"M the client!" I had a client come in once and after nearly finishing the interview, I got to the financial piece and said, "OK... so, what happened with your money this month - why weren't you able to pay your rent?" He says, "My rent is paid this month..." Confused, I asked why he was there, "I'm talking about next month's rent!"... (confused some more) "OK, how do you know that you're not going to be able to pay next month's rent already?"... "I'm taking my kids to Disneyland..." OK... so, you're going to take them to Disneyland instead of paying your rent?!?... (With MUCH 'tude) "TF you mean, MF... my kids deserve a vacation!!"... No, TF YOU mean, MF... they also deserve somewhere to live when they come BACK from vacation!"We got cursed out all day every day. People who had NO understanding. People who, no matter how many times and how many different WAYS you explain things, they see things the way THEY want to see it. You ever see that video clip of the lady who says she has 15 kids and, "SOMEBODY needs to make sure that her children have a way to eat and SOMEBODY better make sure her kids are taken care of!"? Try dealing with 15 of those ladies EVERY single day of the work week. You don't go INTO it with an attitude, but I had to get out before I became one of those people you're speaking about. There's a LOT of behind the scenes stuff that you all don't see. They put a lot of pressure on you at governmental agencies behind the scenes as well and they don't care how overworked you are, they consistently add more to your plate. So, it's not always as it seems. Those people are STRESSED and I know because I've been in that seat.

I think that's true too but, if it was one of their family members or a friend of a friend asking about it, they would give that person all the shortcuts and possibly fill the application out for them placing code words on it to make sure they get in without the wait.

I went to a session of the state legislature and they purposefully change the application requirement for children's health insurance program to every six month to increase attrition and therefore keep the program within budget. They were counting on people forgetting to renew or missing those appointments every six months. That was an eye-opening experience.

You are right. I am old enough to remember back in the stone age when we were not allowed to work in any office unless it was in a custodial aspect. Now they have us as the gatekeeper and just say no customer service reps. Evidently, the number one qualification is to have a frown and to be unpleasant, or maybe even downright rude. I have always thought they do this because they know how some of us act up when seeking public assistance of any kind, due to the frustrating nature of the process we can be nasty to the folks at the desk who are just biding time until it is time for a break, lunch, and quitting time. It is unfortunate for the folks sitting at the desk, who probably thought they had a job that would allow them to be of service, but all they do is call out numbers and sometimes get cussed out. This is just a point of view from the street committee, by one of the long-time observers of our behavior on both sides of the desk.

honey , I tried to buy a house through a couple of government programs. needless to say they both had me waiting for years and years taking classes and all that other type of stuff , mind you I was ready to buy the house from day one, had the money for the down payment and they still sent me through the loops and loops and loops okay. to make a long story short I left them alone ,contacted me a realtor and purchased the house within a few months. if I was waiting on the government's programs, I would still be waiting

In Los Angeles, this is common of ALL races, not just Black women. There are plenty of overworked, unappreciated, and jaded people at my job. Many of the people we come in contact have this sense of entitlement when seeking these programs. Please take that into consideration.

I live in NYC in a Jewish community and I can tell you some examples that could piece together the black communities divide. I noticed in the community I live in they do not need to go to must offices like HUD, WIC and so on the have them right here in the community and the office is not clearly labled so only they know about it. I noticed this just last month while waiting for the bus to go to college ( I am getting my MBA) they moved the WIC office across the street so I so the sign. I have noticed of the years this same apoach is done by must communities that are non-black .

The area they live in mostly consists of Jews, & this is the part of suburban London that has some of the largest & most expensive homes. I'm talking average 2-3 million pounds. They mostly shop in their own supermarkets. They are highly skilled people & are mostly lawyers & doctors, so most of the help they need can be found within their communities. Families are extremely close. They are very peaceful placid ppl. You go to a black community it is the opposite, high crime, high unemployment rate & govt funded housing. I've always wondered, how these people with a traumatic background similar to ours, where they were killed for their culture, yet they managed to come out the other side winning?? We need to realise the problem isn't the system. The problem lies with us.

11:20 truth! Dineva I closed on a house 11/28 last year. I worked with a buying agent, because I had no clue about owning property. She told me about USDA loan, which is a first time home buying program. Even though the loan is through dept of agriculture and was originally for farmers and rural home buyers, things have changed. Now, about 90% of cities in US qualify for USDA. I make $24k as a flight attendant and wasn't sure if I was being too ambitious for wanting to own a home. Credit score in 700s, but nowhere near perfec. Look into USDA to see if where you are in ATL qualifies. I'm in Jacksonville, FL paying $776/mortgage on 3/2 house built in 2002...30 year fixed 3.25% interest rate..no money down. I avoided the whole HUD thing and dealing with the government. USDA is guaranteed loan, but it has to first go through a traditional bank's underwriting. Once it goes through the bank, USDA then takes your file and approves it. When buying a home, this program is rarely brought up, probably because it's so beneficial to the buyer and less so for the banks. All the best. This video was to real!
I'm an early 1970's kid and I remember when my mom used to go to the government buildings to handle business and had to drag me along. At, that time most of the people were white me. And a few women. As times moved on and changes occurred their became more black woman were applying for those positions because now they are available to blacks and black women were the ones that needed and want those jobs other than being a maid. With this came the impossibility to move up so many have been stuck in those positions or offices for 30+ years with now breeds a down trotted employee and bad attitude and when you have people coming in day after day with maybe similar attitudes it is not a pretty scene. So now you have the white men and few women that have moved up but now those same jobs require a degree to get it and now these people who once thought that they could move up eventuality like their predecessors it will not happen unless they go back to school or obtain some kind of higher learning. So not they are almost trapped there. This system is so deep and a lot of the comments hit on some of the things that come along with crap of it all.
If you underpaid, get a new job. Don't slack on the dam job! lol
I think sometime it is a matter of frustration for the workers. As a minority you are already seen a certain way in the workforce, especially a predominantly white place of work, then to have to deal with the "stereotypical" black person all day is frustrating and frankly embarrassing. In this society white people are allowed to be ignorant AND educated, whereas in our culture ONE ignorant Black person represents ALL Black people. That is how some see it anyway and it makes it hard so folks want to separate themselves from that stereotype. it's way deeper then "Black women with attitudes."
Also to your point about not seeing any other ethnicity or race working these jobs, maybe that is frustrating to. Maybe these women have been there 10+ years and have seen people with less experience and education move past them professionally. These are not excuses for bad customer service of course because we all have options. But to say you hope the government privatizes certain programs I hope you understand that includes the program you are seeking to assist you with buying a house.

Where I live in Maryland the people serving you were once in your shoes. Assistance programs make job training mandatory, and the jobs they are training for are those of the unemployment agency and DSS. They would rather pay them to sit on the opposite side of the counter and perform a remedial service than pay them to sit at home and do nothing. These people have grown accustomed to the attitudes that come in the door because they have often displayed those same attitudes. Now the only difference is they feel a since of accomplishment and arrogance because they were "given" a position, because they definitely didn't earn it, and have decided to forget all the bs that comes with sitting in those lobbies for hours only to be turned away. I've noticed in my state (NC) depending on city, the front desk workers and even majority behind the scenes workers often use attitude, rudeness, and overwhelming guidelines to discourage people from moving further with various goals/process. It is very sad. They create depression and anxiety within others so very easily.

One of the best things to do, is if you find a Non-Profit organization that specializes in Housing Counseling. Often there is only one counselor over the Housing Counseling services, as they have to be certified and certification, of course costs. One of the best things you can do is find a non-profit, preferably one that has been certified with a program called NieghborWorks. They're not only HUD compliant and will will offer the same amount of government "services" but with out the government experience. I worked in one of Houston's wards as a grantwriter and found that the government's wheels do grind slowly, and most certainly attitudes do flair up from time to time from both sides of the window. Just stay positive, I know it can be hard, but that's what you got to do.

I live in Charlotte and the government services up here is ridiculous. I went to one building because on the website it listed that address as the location. Got to the location and walked in just to see a table with flyers saying the social security office moved. So I get to the new location of the social security office and there was NO WHERE to park. I waited almost 2 hours at the social security place to sign one form and get a new social security card just so I could apply for my passport. Then had to go to another building for the passport. I was over it lol
I agree. Anytime I have to take care of that type of business I tries my best to do via phone or internet. However, if I do have to do in person baby I am well fed, bladder empty, snacks, good reading material, sweater, etc......Good luck to ya!
It's really not a black woman thing. It's a state/gov't employee thing. Yes most state and government employees have great benefits but most of them are also vastly underpaid & overworked. I worked for the state and most people really do start off wanting to help people but when you're barely surviving on a weak ass salary sometimes that shit carries over & effects your ability to provide customer service with a smile.
I still work in social services but I moved my talents to a company whose coin matches my passion

I think people forget government jobs are like any other workplace, they have budget constraints as well AND their money comes from the people, they may not pay as much because of this. On the flip side the benefits make up for it in most cases. While the pay maybe lower, you save on benefits. For some, they may find another job in the private sector that pays more but, the benefits will costs more in many cases.

I had to deal with that wage shit.I sent in a form that was from the Soc.Sec Office that had my Disability Benefits.It was full benefits that shows it’s not partial Soc.so you know I’m not working.They tell me I need proof of no income for this particular program that I’m applying for.Im Disabled and have issues walking and I don’t drive.How am I suppose to get that and why do I need it when I’m on full disability? I think it’s Atlanta because I’m fro PA and the business gets handled completely different.

I'm a property manager that assigns rental assistance and no we don't get paid enough but almost all our supervisors are white. it's like we don't get promoted either. but everyone deserves to be treated with respect and courtesy

My mentality in reference to applying and receiving public assistance is that it is temporary. I would use it to save as much as I possibly can so that when it comes time to renew I won't have to. Folks get on assistance and become complacent.
It could be that the black folks behind these government agencies that deal with the public think that "all you black ppl are the same." They may end up feeding into the believing the stereotypes about their own ppl and not using their own position to bring ppl over. Enlighten & encourage others. There could be some resentment at the fact that they're not in the same position as you are. I do agree it is systemic. Unfortunately our community is already divided. Things like this just keeps it going.
