Totally Mike!! "You just need to take it easy and not do this!" Mike floors it! "Yeah don't do that!" LOL!! We have zero miles left of gas, but we have a tunnel! Floors it!! Love the sound of this car! Autovlog's trademarks, cold starts and tunnel runs! Great video!!
The emergency handle is supposed to be pulled towards the back of the car and you, not towards the left. I had a mechanic show me this once when I had a problem with an older Audi doing that once and a while.
Yup Had that myself It’s very common on Audi You need 2 people One to pull the emergency lead (but not too hard) and other to keep pressing the fuel cap and thumping cover and it will pop open It’s imperative you keep the fuel cap/ plunger extremely clean and use wd40 to ensure plunger doesn’t stick
Very common problem. Either buy a new lock/actuator for like $25 or just simply pull out the part that "locks" into the latch/door. You wont be able to lock the door without that part, but i never had any issues with not being able to lock it on my old s6
The only stupid thing is to convince yourself that driving 73 Mph is considered "conservatively" in terms of fuel consumption when your low-fuel red-light is shining at you.
There's always a small amount of reserve gasoline in every vehicles tank when it hits zero. Usually a gallon or two but manufacturers don't want to disclose it.
I have had the gas filler release issue in two cars - my '12 Taurus and my wife's '21 Forester. I had to pry the cover off on each because they would not release. Once I got them open, and got the covers back on, they did not cause a problem again.
this happened in my 2018 RS5 when it snowed the mechanism got frozen and my emergency latch literally snapped in half 🤣 ended up pouring hot water on it and that fixed it but still super annoying
Im 98% sure you drove behind me last night through the tunnel and onto the home street. It was dark and I couldn't quite tell if it was the Audi or not. I promise I don't always drive like a 16 year old, but my niece was loving the sounds of the car. 😅 She also loved when I pulled in the drive and you, or whoever it was, gassed it a little bit up the bend. She was giggling the whole drive to Lowe's and back. 😂
Why would you wait until your about out of gas to have it taken care of by an Audi dealer? Your lucky you made it to the gas station and was able to pry open the filler.opening.. Good luck with the repair, I’m sure it won’t be cheap. Nothing is with German cars.
Had an issue with my Camry XLE V6. Automatic fuel door wouldn’t open and had to use emergency latch twice. Sprayed WD-40 and it never had that issue since.
I have to laugh - a couple minutes into the video Mike is driving in the left lane at 77MPH where I'm pretty sure it's 60 or 65MPH - if he was _that_ concerned he could have done double nickel and drafted a semi-truck - he'd make it with a few miles to spare I reckon....
My brand new Mercedes did this. Except on my AMG I don't have an emergency release. At least not one that I can get to without pulling all the trunk paneling off, which I wouldn't do. It ended up being the actuator was in the "lock" position and was stuck. Replaced under warranty. In and out of the dealership same day, took about 90 minutes.
Had this issue with my MB E500. Ended up being that the cable latch was getting bound up in the noise insulation. Did a little trimming to resolve it but what an annoying issue.
You’ll need a actuator as well as that’s the part which has failed, the flap will always be replaced when you do one of those so no harm breaking it open like you did.
Autovlog Great Video I'm sorry to hear that your Audi RS7s Fuel Door is broken and I hope it can be repaired easily and I'm glad you didn't run out of Gas
Hey, I have an older S4. There is a pin inside the gas cap that locks in place, it's electronic. Check the fuses, and if all else fails, use a butter knife to slide the pin open, and then put something in the hole the pin goes into so it won't latch till you can get it fixed. The cylinder drop you can tune out if you want, but your gas mileage will take a hit.
You should have taken the car to the shop and asked them what to do THE first time this happened. Now you are in the “I’m screwed” zone. You should have called the dealership and asked questions. You should have done a lot of things. You know what I am saying?
Had it happen on my 2018 s5, bought a new fuel door actuator from audi and installed it myself. luckily there was a video on youtube so it saved me from getting ripped off by a shop or dealer because the most annoying part is getting the cover and fuel door casing out and after that its two screws.
Just for future reference. When you hit 0 miles to empty, you typically have about 10-15 miles left before the car actually cuts off, depending on whether you're in the city or on the highway. What you experienced was wild, to say the least. It's never happened to me before, but you just taught me where my emergency fuel door release is at 😂
Idk man my audi just ran out of gas recently and it went to 5 miles left, then the 0 and it ran out in as i pulled into the gas station a couple miles away.
Low fuel levels can cause fuel pump failures from lack of lubrication, therefore burning out the pump. Can’t imagine what it would cost to replace a fuel pump in your Audi.
I had this on my A6 with 50 miles left, common issue however I know the updated parts over here in the U.K. fix the issue I’ve heard. It’s an easy job to replace, try putting pressure on the flap whilst hitting unlock and it may release ☺️ Watched the rest of the video and realised you did it, common issue with these and the A6 though sadly :(
that´s the problem with modern cars, they put so much tech and gadgets and then people get stuck with no way to quickly repair the problem, this is gonna sound really cringy but back in my day we were fine with just AC in the car lol we didn´t need any of this fancy stuff and when by some chance we did break down it was easy and pretty quick to repair
Hello, you had a spare red tab in the trunk behind the mat. You had to pull on it to unlock the fuel tap. Well you have opted for the radical solution haha it does not matter.
I have a 16 s6 and had the same problem 😂😂 . Had to get a hole new cap and audi charged me 1400 to put a new one in . BTW it's not coved under audi care . Best of luck
The same thing happened to mine lol. I replaced the whole unit in the end. In the uk from tps the new solenoid and whole unit was £60 i think. You need a small flat head screwdriver and push it in to the 4 oval marks on the plastic and the whole thing comes out.
I had this problem with another car. Feul cap made out of plastic and the holder made out of metal. When it's freezing cold outside, the plastic freezes to the holder shut. I had to just warm up the key with a lighter and turn the gascap with a hot key in a petrol station. 🥴
Had this on mine, emergency lead didn't do anything ended up using a microfiber and a screwdriver and wedged it open, ended anyway changing the lock as it was seized up Also with the cylinder deactivation it happens usually most times while using cruise control
Shame I didn’t see this video earlier. Same thing happened to my A7 their is a trick with double clicking the key fob in a sequence. Doesn’t matter now though
I learnt when my truck say empty it empty maybe 5 miles max took gamble twice and lost , ran out gas on red light while gas station was on the other side light
This happened to me on my way to work back in 2018, in the snow, thought it was frozen closed.... Pulled the e-cord and it snapped... The sun came up about an hour later and the cap finally unfroze.
In a way not so bad because at least you got all that fuel out so it’s not just sitting in the tank now you have fresh fuel, I usually let my car get really really low on fuel that way there’s no old fuel sitting underneath freshly pumped fuel especially 93
Had the same issue in my 2000 Volkswagen, went to try and get gas one day and i the electric opening didn’t work, had to take a screwdriver and break the plastic to get access unfortunately….gotta love German “ engineering” 😅😅
Hey M. AutoVlog, 🔴 Red Alert 🔴 fella' - driving those phriggin' Audi vehicles with an extremely low FUEL condition is a death knell for their fuel PUMPS. You see, the fuel believe it or not serves as a LUBRICANT for the pump in the tank. When you drive with that little range left (ie; 15-20 miles) the pump is sucking more AIR than gas. Sentiment - You may be looking at a fuel pump replacement in the very near future. Estimated Audi service dept. BILL for that part replacement ?!? Right around $1,875.00 spendola's ! Hope this helps Yo ! 🚘🔍. 💲.💲.💲. 💲. 💲
Hey, did you try grabbing the rear passenger door to unlock. If you grab the rear passenger door, it will unlock the gas door. Let me know if that work for you.

There’s this thing called Murphy’s law.

In a 55pmh zone and then he wonders why he gets tickets 😂
Yeah, love Mike, but 73 in a 55 is not conservative. haha
A 4 lane highway being a 55 zone is a joke, 70 is nothing. And most cars like an RS7 will use less gas at 70 than at 55
Taking it to hit golf balls knowing it is extremely low on fuel….smdh.
There's always a small amount of reserve gasoline in every vehicles tank when it hits zero. Usually a gallon or two but manufacturers don't want to disclose it.

Ahhhh, Audi's .... The cars that stay in the shop more than a Range Rover.... LOL
Man this RS7 sounds sick. 😍. I still wouldnt mind owning one but Meredes S63 AMG seems like a better option.
Great video. So relatable to be angry about car issues.
Just need to stick a flathead screwdriver in the side, and it'll pop open
Just finger it
Seems easy right lol
He is not very handy with tools
93 oooh here the lowest is 95 i always tank 98 😉👍🇳🇱
@@ErnstDetailingIt is
Mike doesn't own many tools for a reason
this happened in my 2018 RS5 when it snowed the mechanism got frozen and my emergency latch literally snapped in half 🤣 ended up pouring hot water on it and that fixed it but still super annoying
Bad gas door or not that RS7 is sick!

You are aware of these people named Mechanics aren't you Mike? Been weeks bro just get it fixed.
A gas cap is gonna be the least of your worries on an Audi. Good luck
So glad they got rid of the fuel door release on newer cars(not sure about Audi). My ‘14 E63 doesn’t have one.
Video tapes himself breaking his own car....you sir deserve a follow 👏 👍 😅😂
You bought an Audi. What did you expect. 🤭
Why would you wait until your about out of gas to have it taken care of by an Audi dealer? Your lucky you made it to the gas station and was able to pry open the filler.opening.. Good luck with the repair, I’m sure it won’t be cheap. Nothing is with German cars.
Bloody technology mate ! It’s ridiculous that a mechanical thoroughbred has an issue like this!
I’m so jaded with fancy gadgets and gizmos. Give me a simple manual gas door latch any day. $86 for a fillup huh. Unreal. FJB
Had an issue with my Camry XLE V6. Automatic fuel door wouldn’t open and had to use emergency latch twice. Sprayed WD-40 and it never had that issue since.

My thoughts surround why haven’t you gotten it repaired? It’s been broken for awhile now.
My question is, why didn't you have the fuel door fixed after it broke to begin with?
Also wd40 is a degreaser. A silicone lube would work better or a dry lube
Had this issue with my MB E500. Ended up being that the cable latch was getting bound up in the noise insulation. Did a little trimming to resolve it but what an annoying issue.
dude you could live in a much nicer neighborhood my man....
You need to change the lock mechanism its one t20 or t25 screw holding it in normal vw group issue.
That's not conservative enough. If you slow down to 65 or 60, just for this one instance, you'll be better off.
I just saw this pop up 5 seconds ago! I'm a big fan! Been here since the fusion experiments!
Instead of dealing with this more than once, why aren't you getting this to the dealer to have it replaced?
You’ll need a actuator as well as that’s the part which has failed, the flap will always be replaced when you do one of those so no harm breaking it open like you did.
Autovlog Great Video I'm sorry to hear that your Audi RS7s Fuel Door is broken and I hope it can be repaired easily and I'm glad you didn't run out of Gas
Brave man. I’d have just towed the car home, rather than running it low since the fuel pump needs gas to keep it lubricated and cool.
Seriously mate - how long has it been broken? - get off your butt and get it fixed

I hate cylinder deactivation because it often leads to oil consumption and other problems
Had it happen on my 2018 s5, bought a new fuel door actuator from audi and installed it myself. luckily there was a video on youtube so it saved me from getting ripped off by a shop or dealer because the most annoying part is getting the cover and fuel door casing out and after that its two screws.
The exhaust note never gets old ❤️❤️❤️
Just for future reference. When you hit 0 miles to empty, you typically have about 10-15 miles left before the car actually cuts off, depending on whether you're in the city or on the highway. Shit happens, at least you fell back in love with it instantly.
I have the same problem with my Q5 TDI. I scanned my vehicle and it’s a wiring issue that causes this problem.
Damn that exhaust sounds so good! Sheesh! 💪🏽
Low fuel levels can cause fuel pump failures from lack of lubrication, therefore burning out the pump. Can’t imagine what it would cost to replace a fuel pump in your Audi.
Yeah that's why I try to fill up when half empty. It isn't good to run the tank down that low.
Clearly he has the money to break any car he buys so..let's just sit back and enjoy the show 😌🍿
Why you didnt drive to the next dealer? I dont get it
I had this on my A6 with 50 miles left, common issue however I know the updated parts over here in the U.K. fix the issue I’ve heard. It’s an easy job to replace, try putting pressure on the flap whilst hitting unlock and it may release ☺️

It’s amazing a RUclipsr hasn’t used RUclips search…… lol
i believe that you have like 2.5 gallons of fuel when the light comes on. and 1 gallon when the red light starts flashing and range reads 0 🤙
Now 0 miles, a tunnel and "I think I'm gonna make it". That is not something everyone could tell. He has the experience :).
Our A4 had this issue, did you try to hit the unlock button? That worked for us.
Hello, you had a spare red tab in the trunk behind the mat. You had to pull on it to unlock the fuel tap. Well you have opted for the radical solution haha it does not matter.
Yes, you get it towed to the mechanic/ dealership (especially if it's still under warranty.

Press against it... Cemtral lock and unlock several times... Usually pops the lock

17 over gets you tickets here! Hell, 7 over gets tickets!
Why not use remaining gas to drive to Audi dealer or other shop?
How absolutely ridiculous it is to have that as an option, and you didn’t break it you corrected it.
Just stick a flat head in the side where you are spraying, IT WILL POP Open
Had this happen to me a month ago . I pulled on the red cable and kept hitting the door till it popped open . Ended up replacing it .
Audi- Where parts break that never break on any other car.
"You're not very bright, are you?" - Jerry Seinfeld
you need fuel cap actuator had same thing on my a7
Could glue the new door on to the mechanism..delete the stupid pull latch and use earth magnets to keep fuel door closed...
I think you should go and visit your local Audi dealership to fix this annoying problem!
Tank on E before fueling up. Best gas is on the bottom
The definition of I know my car😂😂
Maybe drive a little slower...
Hi Can,t you use road side service to fix it? From the Auto club! Will s
Had the same issue in my 2000 Volkswagen, went to try and get gas one day and i the electric opening didn’t work, had to take a screwdriver and break the plastic to get access unfortunately….gotta love German “ engineering” 😅😅

My anxiety level is off the charts watching the fuel gauge
Chillin' in the left lane? C'mon, Mike!
On my rs7 I just pull the door and it opens. When I push on the gas door it doesn't pop up 😂 it haven't popped open in months
Looks like you had a gallon of gas left in the tank with it being a 19.3 gallon tank. Now we all know how far down it can be taken 😂
Does it lock with the doors ?
I almost ripped mine off but then realized when the doors lock the gas door locks too
I guess the Audi showed the Danger Ranger how to run on super empty.
Hey, did you try grabbing the rear passenger door to unlock. If you grab the rear passenger door, it will unlock the gas door. Let me know if that work for you.
Had the same issue with my 2003 Honda civic two years ago. 😂 I like my money in the bank.
when its at 0 i bet it has at least a couple gallons of reserve. Thats pretty common on most vehicles
I’ve had luck repeatedly pressing the unlock button and the fuel door and eventually it pops out
