Mbuyisa, Lost in Exile (June 16 documentary teaser)

Mbuyisa Makhubu picked up Hector Peterson after he was shot during the June 16, 1976 protests. Sam Nzima took a photo of that moment that became an iconic image that represented the uprising against Apartheid, and made Mbuyisa an enemy of the state and forced him into exile months later. His family never saw him again.

We started working on this film in light of developments that suggested Mbuyisa was alive in Canada. Unfortunately we were never able to confirm or deny the identity if the man that was being held by Canadian officials. Maybe one day we'll manage to make our way over there and find out if the mystery man in Canada is indeed Mbuyisa.
