Thank you, Siger Miller, for putting up this compilation. In my opinion, the song goes both ways as it is about both Charlie and Alex. From Charlie's perspective, this song was about him caring for Alex and treating him better than anyone else could. On Alex's part, this song was about him mistreating Charlie in the series of encounters after their first initial kiss following the lockdown until the moment he realized how much Charlie meant to him during the riot scene. Even then, he kept mistreating Charlie on and off during the prom proposal scenes (until he relented and accept Charlie's invitation in the Math bookroom) and even the during the prom when he kept refusing Charlie's invitation to dance. It was only from the moment when he accepted Charlie's hand for the Prom Kings' dance that he began to treat his boyfriend better. That was the moment when Alex saw Charlie as a guy with a golden soul who should be treated as someone precious and valuable.

Yes, but a good part of the problem was Alex's mood swings, which even when treated tend to strike, going up and down in shorter "seizures" until the finally stop -- but then treatment is ongoing. Love is no cure, but it is the best care.

You identified the key factor of Alex's mood swings, which became intensified after his failed suicide attempt as well as compounded after he pushed Bryce into the water resulting in the pressure to keep it secret, as the main problem of his relationship with Charlie. You are also right in stating that love is the best care as Charlie has exemplified that fact. Charlie loved Alex, and was patient with him all throughout Season 4 despite being mistreated. That was the example of his caring attitude. Even when Alex told him to stay away after their talk at the pier, Charlie cared enough to put some space in their relationship. Zack opened up Alex's eyes to the fact of Charlie's love. Even then, Alex still mistreated Charlie throughout the "promposal" and the prom scenes to the point that Clay admitted to Justin that Alex asked him to share the eight-person limo for fear of Charlie "trying something". It was only after the Prom Kings' announcement and during the dance that Alex realized how special Charlie was and started to treat him better. This was the "icing on the cake" to the fact that Charlie had always treated Alex well from the start, and had continued to treat him better all throughout the final season.
