Nice review, Tony. I'm in a similar boat as yourself because I have had way more motorcycles vs. ATVs, but I have had some of them. Here's my take on a few of the ATVs I've owned. *1985 Yamaha YT125N Tri Moto* : My first ATV and the one I spent the most time on and enjoyed the most. It had no suspension except the balloonish 22X11X8 tires, but the very torquey oil-injected, air-cooled 2-stroke engine with 5-speeds and automatic clutch combined with a nimble chassis made this machine tremendous fun riding up in the woods behind the house where there were not even any trails - I made my own. I would be up in the woods for hours snaking through the woods, finding hills, bushes, and streams to practice on, completely forgetting about everything except me riding that machine. The very torquey power characteristics made this kind of riding second nature on that machine. I rode it like a three-wheeled trials bike simply exploring the wooded terrain. Tremendous fun and I have fond memories of those times. *1988 Yamaha YFS200U Blaster* : Mine was blue and white, and if I recall, the original retail price was $1,899 before it went up to $1,949. I bought it brand new, and I believe I got the first one sold by my local Yamaha dealer. Lots of people say the engine is the design from the 1984-1986 IT200 because the cooling fins on the cylinder and cylinder head look the same, but you are correct that it is actually an air-cooled version of a Yamaha dual-purpose bike, the liquid-cooled 1984-1988 DT200R that was not sold in the USA. I thought this was a fun, torquey yet peppy, light-weight machine for general play riding in gravel banks and on trails. I also thought the suspension was firm, as if the innards contained molasses instead of shock fluid, but all-in-all it was relatively cheap fun. *1987 Yamaha YFM350FWT Big Bear* : Yamaha's first 4-wheel-drive ATV with the same engine top end design as the 350 Warrior ATV, so it had the same power characteristics. I liked using this machine going relatively slowly through water and mud and brush, amazed at what it would be able to tractor through. What I find amazing today is that back then, a 350cc single-cylinder ATV was considered fairly big. Honorable mention: *1987 Yamaha YFZ350T Banshee* : I never bought and owned a Banshee, but I was able to ride one several times over the years. What I liked about this ATV most was the unique twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled 348cc 2-stroke engine that made lighting up and spinning the rear tires easier than child's play on any surface - even clean and dry pavement. There was just enough low-end torque to make things easy to ride, but it was not torquey, either. Then, in the midrange, the power hit hard and those rear tires spun no matter what. In fact, the most efficient way to turn it most of the time was to simply spin the rear wheels and the back end would automatically snap right around perfectly, and the howling intake and exhaust note while riding it like this was amazing. Great fun to ride as long as you had plenty of room and a sure-fire way to spray dirt and gravel.
you didn't mention that the 85' and 86' had 6 gears that I can recall, that is a huge gain in top speed. I owned an 85' and out of every motorcycle, atc, quad, I've ever owned street or dirt, my 1985 Honda 250R was my very favorite hands down. it was like an extension of my body. loved your video brought back so many memories. I learned to ride on 73' trail 90.. thank you for this video
Great Video! In 1991 I bought A Honda 250X Brand New, I never even rode A Quad before that. I still have it, and it still runs great! Looking back though I should of went back and got the 300X with the Electric Start, as that is one of the reasons I did not use it that much. Then I wanted to introduce the wife to quad trail riding, and got her a small Suzuki 160, she liked it so in 2019 I got her a brand new 250X. sold the Suzuki. Shortly after we decided the 2019 was nothing like my '91! So I got us Honda 400's. Hers is 2008, and mine in 2014. and sold the 2018 250X.
Yamaha rules sport quads the last 12yrs or so..but they very high- performance machines . If your serious get a YFZ450R before they stop making them. Incredible quads.
A friend of mine had both a Banshee and a Raptor at the same time.. He used to let all of us dirt bike riders have a go of them.. So many guys had accidents on them that 911 already knew his address before he said it ! I never came off because l learnt to ride them in my youth... Great times at Glens house !! LOL !!
Had a 90" blaster, rode it from age 9-16, added DG pipe and silencer, Boysen Reed's, changed the rear tires to 18x11x10's Holeshots, changed the front sprocket to a 14 tooth I think?! She ran good in the trails and woods! Also switched to a 96" KX125!
My 300ex was damn near identical to yours, holeshots and all. I 100% agree with you on the handle bar cowling, taking it off made the bike look so much better. Lovin all your videos!
I had a blaster when I was a teenager for probably 6 years absolutely loved it and now I’m 28 and have another one. Surprisingly my drum brakes still work
This channel makes me nostalgic. I had a couple of these as well growing up. I ride atvs and bikes. I feel the exact same way as you. MX first but I loved these atvs and still do. Great channel.
A few years ago, my buddy got a similar kind of deal on a CHERRY of a Dodge Viper. He put in the opening $30k bid and turned out to be the only bid. 7500 miles and brand new tires. Not a blemish.
Oh yes sir. There is definitely a discrimination against sport ATVs... And the race quad guys are the same way towards utility quads. But I absolutely agree... They're great for trail riding. Bark busting motos. My personal favorite thing about quads is that they're a three season machine. Dirt bikes and snowmobiles are strictly single season.... A foot of snow and a dirt bike is useless unless you're following a plow truck, whilst a quad can still hit the trails. There's something extremely fun about hitting 5th gear and only going 15mph in a full drift.
Spot on with the Warrior 350 analysis. It felt absurdly heavy like a tank. I couldn’t stand the Warrior especially after riding the amazing Honda 400ex
first one to view this, i was waiting for your next video, Im always looking forward to your new video, and im sure this one will be just as great as all the others. Your supporter from the True North , I will view and comment again, keep up the great work and im sure your subscribers will grow. You should have over 500k . (it will get there)
Sport quads are awesome! I went between those & MX bikes as well. Raced em both. They all fun. Own 2 newer Yamaha sport quads ..& 2 - Suzuki RM 2-stroke MX bikes. Best of all worlds . #Maxima
I remember when I was a kid my uncle had a YZ250 3wheeler ..extended swing arm port and polished..its was sweet but I was scared to death of it ..it looked and sounded mean lol..
3 wheelers are my thing...can slide great, wheely without trying, super lightweight...but 4 wheelers just have the better stability when jumping or on steep hills.
I have a 1987 250x awesome machine blows everything else out of the water, the 300ex engine is a 250x engine all they did was bored it out a tiny bit and it was really a 260x and just slapped a sticker that said 300 on it, all 300ex is just a supped up 250x. When I got my 250x my buddy bought a brand new first line 300ex smoked him no prob with my 250x.
never follow a quad or trike on a sandy single track ,I followed my mate on his quad once and got buried in the tons of sand in the roost man they pick up a lot of material lol
first ATV was an 02 Warrior so have good memories about it. theyre especially heavy when you get stuck and I did all the time 😅 dead reliable though and great on the trails
seem like you had a lot of 4-stroke. for me I was in my teens in 80's I had a lot of 2-stroke 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers and dirt bikes. like 1982 CR 80 and 1984 CR 125 and 1984 250R 3 wheelers and 1986 4-trax 250R- and 1985 Suzuki LT250R
It’s great to see an MX guy that loves quads and trikes. There’s no reason to hate any of them. They’re all fun!
Agreed!
What a find ! That 250R

Really enjoy the owner review videos that you're doing. Thx
That is the best part he's owned all of these things

I agree quads are a blast and I think most guys that hate them have just never owned one.
I forgot to say thanks for another killer vid, we appreciate it.
Thanks!
Hmmm... I'm not a general ATV hater.. like, I'd rather not be thumb wrestling. But here I am.. lol.
LONG LIVE THE MOTOCROSS VAULT!
Someone has to do it.
LOL thanks!
These are fun videos man, thanks for putting it together.
Glad you like them!
I have an 87' FourTrax, nearly mint condition. I wish I could attach a picture but I don't know how to do that on RUclips.
Spot on with the Warrior 350 analysis. It felt absurdly heavy like a tank. I couldn’t stand the Warrior especially after riding the amazing Honda 400ex
You skipped the Raptors,,, I had a 02", top heavy wheelie Machine torque monster!!! I love Yamaha in stock form hand's down!!
Another friend of mines dad had a sweet honda 250r that he flat tracked..it was also sweet..it was fun to ride!

The honda had 2 valves not 4, same as 300ex. The 400ex had 4 valves, which gave it alot more power
I remember when I was a kid my uncle had a YZ250 3wheeler ..extended swing arm port and polished..its was sweet but I was scared to death of it ..it looked and sounded mean lol..
Yamaha Blasters are legendary! For performance > value ratio they were unbeatable. #Yamaha
I also embrace all off-road.... Except Side by sides
3 wheelers are my thing...can slide great, wheely without trying, super lightweight...but 4 wheelers just have the better stability when jumping or on steep hills.

I know lots of people love them but it was not my cup of tea
They have terrible ground clearance at the rear sprocket and brake disk
badass
seem like you had a lot of 4-stroke. for me I was in my teens in 80's I had a lot of 2-stroke 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers and dirt bikes. like 1982 CR 80 and 1984 CR 125 and 1984 250R 3 wheelers and 1986 4-trax 250R- and 1985 Suzuki LT250R
This is funny but we are about the same age and raced and we had a lot on bikes. I’m on my 40th new bike and at least 100+ used ones.
What about Yamaha banshee.
87-88-91-92 Honda trx250x never had electric start now in 93 Honda produced the e trx300ex had electric start
$4k for 4trax250r in 2004 in today money that probably like $7k-$8k or something like that
Kool.
I had a warrior, worse quad I ever had, complete dog
