Hi Ivan, great video! The lack of a "click" when you push the coil onto the plug is normal. BMW did a redesign (which filtered through to non-OEM) on the coil and they specifically highlighted that there would be no longer the expected "click" sound/feel. I am not sure why they did this, but just so you know it is perfectly normal for new coils.
We have a lot of BMW's on our roads. I know lots of people with them. I would never own one. They are amazing machines but they are a liability. Most start life as company cars on lease and under warranty. Most independent shops here, if you turned up at them with a BMW with a problem would tell you to go to the BMW dealership because they don't have the diagnostic equipment. The most popular BMW engine on the road here is the N47 which is the 1.6/1.8/2.0 diesel. It's just mapped differently depending on the vehicle. A sub contractor my boss uses who used to be a heavy diesel mechanic and worked for JCB has his 520D in bits in his workshop right now because it snapped it's timing chain at 86k. The engine is longitudinally mounted and the chain is at the back. You have to dismantle all the suspension and drive train to drop it. I went to help him last night to drop it. Man there was some tool throwing. We took the timing covers off which confirmed snapped chain. He says it's bad design. Finally left at 4 in the morning. Sunday he's going to pull the head and see if there's any other damage and then hopefully repair it and get it back in the car. BMW quoted £5400 to do the job...
Interesting. Just a tip: Always measure the coil resistance on the 12V-side before doing any other tests! If the coil is short circuited repeated engine starts can blow up the final stage in the DME = DME replacement. Dont ask me how I know...
It's a DISA valve. If the actuator is good, you can just replace to O-ring. Make sure the old DISA valve or new one if you replace it has the upgraded pin fix.
I really like how people buy a high end car to have the image of having money then cheap out on parts to keep them maintained and repaired PROPERLY....like you said ivan, you have to pay to play...
haha, I see it allll the time. Someone wants a lux car... they pay over what they can afford (should really be getting a used Nissan or something) for a worn out used one and the only money they put into it is for a set of chrome wheels, after that the car is run into the ground like a farm truck and only gets the cheapest of cheap replacement parts, and only when it quits running... this is a perfect example of it, and I see a ton of them around here. I hate to say it this way, but it's like a low income status symbol... dumb use of money.
I have a bmw I save some money on the side, ALWAYS go OEM or Certified parts from BMW. My dad gave me his car my god, he didn’t took care of it. Me being an engineer decided to dismantle and replace all of the hose, and ignition OEM I bought a MAF 165 which isn’t that bad now I got the car registered it’s really a tank lol
That valve=DISA is very familiar problem with BMW's. It changes length of intake and thus creates more power and torque. There are also many aftermarket choices for that valve.
NGK 3199 plugs are the best to go with. Also DISA not a dealer only part. Used oem can be found on eBay also they sell rebuild kits for them at around $30. But any way thanks for the video.
Nice one Ivan. I got a 330i so I could take some good coil ramps if you like. And BMW parts go bad like any others ;) Just check that "DISA valve" flap, it have a metal pin that can fall in to the cylinder if its get loose. Cheers.
Enjoy your channel. Done this same repair to many of this generation BMW. Each manufacturer has their quirks. What would us mechanics do if they didn't? Professional lottery winner isn't working out 😉
Nice video Ivan I have a 2003 525i Euro model and have good waveforms with original coils and 162000 miles on the car, the peak amperage is 8,5 A and it strikes 7 times at idle.
You, Eric and Paul are about the only guys that can keep me up this late. Nice work calling that one so fast. That's crazy that the dealer can demand so much for a plastic part. I'm just shaking my head, but we've all been there. Thank you kindly for the video, I always enjoy them.
Hi Ivan I noticing that not all BMW have cylinder cylinder miss counter but I notice with the Autel Maxisis in OBD 2 mode 6 and you can see the cylinder count not live but if you erase the fault codes and then they go to zero count start the car and see which one is actually misfiring And yes some BMW do come with NGK spark plug but BMW is constantly changing the supplier and the part number on there spark plugs so if a car came with a certain no. Of plug you go to the dealer it doesn't mean that you are going to get the same ones that the car was built with. As for coils I only put BOSCH or BERU or whatever the OE supplier is.
That item is called the DISA Valve. You can try a cheap fix for the DISA seal the the intake manifold. Remove the DISA Valve and scrape the silicone seal on the DISA Valve and install an o-ring where the silicone seal use to be. Some people use a round o-ring other use a square cut o-ring. A 140 o-ring should work or a square cut o-ring can be brought at some store that sells paint ball guns. The smoke test show smoke coming at the DISA valve, but I would also look at the rubber bellow below the DISA Valve that connects the MAF to the throttle body and the Idle Air Control Valve. The small rubber bellow portion that connects to the IAC valve is usual torn and is a common vacuum leak. Everyone wants to be seen in a BM Trouble U but they are too cheap to actually buy quality parts for their BM Trouble U. These BMW has dropped in prices that kids flipping burgers at MCKie D can afford them, but they lack the skill and knowledge to fix them and the funds to buy quality replacement parts so they go on eBay or Amazon to buy made in China crap for 1/4 the cost of OEM parts.
+Upallnight It looked like the smoke was coming from the internals of the valve, like a torn vacuum diaphragm or something. Are you sure it's just a sealing o-ring that goes bad?
+motoYam82 The other thing that goes wrong with the DISA Valve is the metal pin for the flap become loose or sometime actually falls out. If you don't catch it in time, the pin can end up in a cylinder, which will do a lot of bad thing to that cylinder. I owned a E34 5 series BMW prior to my current X5.. I am also on the xoutpost.com E53 forum posting under Upallnight. The vacuum leak on camera sound more like the rubber bellow vacuum leak on a IAC valve.
+Upallnight If the seal is good it should take some effort to remove the DISA Valve from the intake manifold. If it come out really easy, than the silicone seal is bad.You can also use a Ford Probe parts--- Fel-Pro brand and Advance Auto Part #35489 "91-94 ford probe gasket seal". It for a thermostat.
I don't know about your Maxidas, but my Maxisys does great on BMW. I also adopt a German accent and slam 8 Heinekens. The beers make the wiring diagrams simple to use. Unfortunately a DUI comes standard with every Euro car.
Nice fix Ivan. Love your quote, "because you gotta use the scope when you can." Looking over the comments, people sure do get riled up when a part on a BMW fails! Jeez. That plastic valve went 98kmi so that's not too bad really. Expensive, sure but there are probably alternatives. Eric O. would hit the junk yard as would I. People somehow think that BMW has found a way around the laws of physics and now only uses parts that never fail. lol
+Baxrok2 haha oh yeah gotta hate on the Eurotrash!! Well they wouldn't be too bad if the prices on the disposable plastic pieces weren't so outrageous :)
Cheap, crappy generic parts! I replaced 2 coils once on my e46 with an "aftermarket" lifetime guarantee coil because it's what I could find in stock. Same problem with not seating properly with the spark plug. Took that crap back and ordered the Bosch, which was the same price anyway. Just had to wait a couple days for it to come in.
Nice video Ivan and good find on the coils and valve being bad. I'm not surprised that pos valve costs that much being a German car. Have a good one Ivan...
I got a kick out out of the trouble code misfire several cylinders on a Straight 6 engine. Most likely a generic code but I chuckled a little bit on that haha.
If Mr. moneybags would have left the six old coils in that under hood parts tray maybe you could have found two out of them that still worked which only leaves the $400 piece of plastic left to buy.
Here's a video on the intake boot that is usually the cause of a vacuum leak on a BMW inline 6 engine (M54). As you can see, the boot is located directly below the DISA Valve and any smoke leaking from the boot will also appear to be from the DISA Valve. ruclips.net/video/0XtvQFKv-o4/видео.html
Usual problems with those , DISA valve , Coils, secondary air pump, secondary air flow sensor, PCV valve and all the hoses related to it (moisture freeze and craks) , valve cover gasket leaks , cooling fans (done twice) , burns oil like crazzy (i quart every thousand miles and BMW says is within normal specs) BMW's are money pits i do my own work in my vehicles and I hate my X5 , cant wait to get rid of it, honestly i am going back to my Asian vehicles , Done with German high maintenance cars (yes i have own a VW too , same story with that) but i like how german cars drive, thats my problem! , i like that stiff to the ground feel like!
What we need to understand I suppose, is that anything that gets slopped onto Ivan's plate are the leftovers.....just like in my line of work... It's both an honor and a curse.......Welcome to the big league! I get the work that others abandon.....so I do understand...
The PCV is a known issue..They should be replaced quite regularly..and some BMW systems here will not work with aftermarket coils..Some have Bosch and some have Delfi...It appears that they are not compatible.."Broke the Man's Wallet" That's what I call BMW.
So, I have an 04 330i ZHP and it has misfires, but not to the point of shaking. Yesterday late afternoon was hot as crap and it just lost power and kept cutting off when I came to stops or slowed down. No smoke or obvious smells. Got it flatbedded to the shop but they’re saying the O2 Upstreams (?) and Plugs are causing the vehicle to behave like this. I just drove it home, no noticeable issues. Any takes on this?
+Steve Rob But still, look at that 400$ 'actuator' (aka plastic piece of S*), it is an OEM item and nothing but garbage....(like most parts in BMWs today, unfortunately) But of course you're right...also in the aftermarket there is quality and junk products... For that plastic actuator housing I would probably just break out some JB-Weld and seal it up as long as it is still functional.
+Markus Krause Right. At least price is a definite. OEM/Brand name doesn't always mean quality. Some of the OEM stuff is just re-branded crap from China these days. It's a crap shoot. And no I don't always buy the cheapest crap I can find.
Hi there...I was looking for some help...I have a 2004 535i BMW with a missfire on cylinder 2&6 I already replaced all the ignition coila and spark plugs . But it continues doing the same thing
That vakuum leak part is not a dealer only part. You can order it from Sweden from Schmiedmann.se Or from any other country.. Schmiedmann.de is also an option about 200 euros incl vat 25%
those have vacuum pumps that are just a pain to replace ... i did one few days ago... i HATE BMW .. i work mainly on Mercedes and i believe that they are simpler to work on than other euro crap
I had a good laugh at the BMW storage tray haha. And supposedly an OE coil is ~$72 each and the parts store special is ~$28 each. And the owner wonders why its running like crap. If the total bill from you and Absolute Auto Repair are greater than ~$450, not including the replacement of the actuator, then not being cheap would have saved the owner money instead. My thought is if you can afford to own an European car then you should have the money to fix it when it does break. I need another series to watch haha.
Part is 120.00 through Rock Auto... but don't tell the owner that..... Search using the part number..... Looks like it adjusts the intake runner volume. BMW = Blew My Wallet..... Oh I noticed you have used an Autel in you older vids as well. What is you unvarnished opinion on it. Maybe you and Eric could do a show on them, pros/cons. actual coverage or areas you have found lacking. I'm thinking about one as a field tool and to replace an old EVO as a loaner.
+Blazer02LS Is that a Dorman unit on RockAuto? The Autel is a very capable scanner, with incredible coverage. It just falls on its face in graphing live data and saving it...definitely recommended though.
No it was a Uro, Probably from the same Chinese plant though.... Yeah I've heard the graphing and scope are miserable. Supposed to be an update for those but ???
Hah I had a bad experience once with a Uro timing belt tensioner on an Audi V6. Basically it stopped tensioning and the engine was VERY close to grenading!! Had to replace it with a Gates unit.
Great video , is the smoke machine yours or the shops and what do you think about it is it worth the money on flee bay . Had a ford escape the author day with a vacuum leak could not find it to save my life .
+8power0 The shop didn't even have a smoke machine, so I busted this thing out. He was a bit skeptical at first, but once he saw it in action he asked where he could get one haha! Works just as well as the fancy pro ones, and you can modify this thing all you want without "voiding the warranty" :)
Ivan I have the same smoke machine I bought from ebay. However I used it once on a neon to try to find an evap leak and the thing exploded and started on fire lol. I'm afraid to use it now, but I feel like the regulator or something failed letting in too much psi. It blew the lid right off. Have you had that problem? What are your suggestions?
+Alex Schmidbauer I got rid of the stock regulator completely, and just use a manual external one with a dial. Also it's important to keep the right amount of baby oil in it. Also don't leave it hooked up too long or else it gets too toasty and at 6 amps it can drain your car battery pretty quick! Otherwise it's worked great!
+motoYam82 This should not be used for evap testing at all. An exposed heating element of unknown reliability in a tank back filled with fuel vapor and oxygen . It's why the larger machines all have a check valve in their machines now to prevent the back draft effects. I'm sure this is why you said the right amount of baby oil, but not everyone pays enough attention to the details. At least if nitrogen is used to keep the tank inert ?
I guess that is a concern...you could always add a check valve to the outlet hose if desired. As long as there is positive pressure in the smoke machine, back-drafting shouldn't be an issue...But yeah use at your own risk :)
Nice work Ivan. Hey I liked the look of your home grown smoke machine, how about a vid on putting one together? Great channel thanks for sharing the skills.
+motoYam82 Thanks Ivan. Down here in Australia the pro machines are about AU$1000 and upwards so I've been looking at making one up myself. Enjoy all your vids and Eric O too. cheers Clive.
got 366K kms on mine. Great car to learn on. Yes, not as reliable as Japanese cars. Driving dynamics are amazing for a car of that mileage and age. Went from a trouble free Accord to a 330i, no regrets at all
I have the same car except its a coupe 2001 330ci same engine. I have p1345 cylinder number 2 misfire with fuel cutoff. Along with p0172 p0175 codes I got spark . I swapped coils swapped injectors but misfire stays at cyl 2 Fuel trims r at -28% both banks replaced the fuel filter w/fpr This car is killin me. Would you go after the cyl # 2 misfire or the rich codes first? What could cause rich codes on both banks maf seems to be working
+motoYam82 when i clear the codes and start it it seems to be smooth but then within 10 seconds i think it starts misfiring and it doesnt go away unless i clear the codes while the car is running(which makes the car run smoother for like 5-10 sec) i did the drop test like u did and unplugging cyl 2 coil doesnt do anything but like i said i have done the coil swap and injector swap no change. Has all new sparkplugs I do have the ccv/pcv deleted at the moment. It was broken i never put another one back on so all the vacuum ports r blocked off and valve cover venting to the atmosphere for now. Could that cause all the rich codes and misfire? Should i buy the actual bmw ccv valve and put it back on or jus get any pcv valve and put it on(i dont think that makes any difference since they both do same job) i have ordered the adapter for my bmw peake tool so i can plug it into the obd port for all I know i might not be gettin all the right codes with these generic one.
+motoYam82 i will do as u said with the maf and report back. But i do want your opinion on the ccv valve. Bmw ccv valve back on it or any quality pcv will do or a catch can? Thanks
+motoYam82 so i did as suggested. Fuel trims were at -28% on both banks and when i unplugged the maf bank 1 went to 2.52% and bank 2 went to -1.65% so does that mean i need a new maf? Misfire is at idle only it gets better if i turn ac on or if i raise the rpm. Also the car ran alot better with maf unplugged. There wasnt any poppin out of the exhaust. I looked at misfire data and it has misfire at cyl 2& 5 i dont know if misfire it causing those fuel trims or fuel trims causing the misfire
You are great I will like to have you local to fix me car 2003 X5 3.0 with with the same problem. Mechanics here in SD they just want money and never fix the problem opposite give you more problems.
Nice video Ivan ...that is a great lesson for those that think a Mercedes or a BMW would be great to own ..400%&^&**^$ for a part that .....controls a vacuum line?? WOW. I used to subscribe to a BMW motorcycle mechanics channel ( until he started getting lazy with ,,,not kidding here 30 second videos ) ,,anyway he used to say that BMW sometimes would use a part that was a known bad element for years..just so that down the line they could nail you for $$ more
+deepsquat600 It controls more than a vacuum line haha, It's actually for the variable length intake runners. The intake runners change shape to generate a beautiful flat torque curve. These types of cars are all the same great to drive, expensive to fix.
ahh//yes I know what a variable intake runner is .. the original yamaha V max had them ( i could be talking out of my ass here LOL ) But I did no know that that is what THAT part was for ..thanks
+Jason Argonauts They are real easy to make. look for youtube Brian B or search google for Paint can EVAP smoker. I've built a couple and they work fine for most testing. Basically it's a paint can, a few inches of 20 gauge Nichrome wire wrapped around some tiki torch wicks, a BBQ propane regulator (those are preset at a level lower than the EVAP damage level) and some wire and battery clips. You also need an air source. Parts are easy to find. Paint can and regulator came from true value, Nichrome or Kanthal wire from Ebay (I bought a 50 foot spool from TEMCo Industrial for $12.00) wire and binding posts for the first one came from radio shack. Second one I made my own posts. Short piece of 1/4" brake line for an air bar.2 fender washers to reinforce the top for the smoke outlet. And the most important item ---UNSCENTED--- baby oil..
+Jim Maas From what I heard the owner elected to just replace the bad coils and plastic actuator. That means he will continue to have misfire issues until all the junk coils are replaced with OEM coils, or at least decent aftermarket ones. A bit off topic, but my professor for Psychology 101 at Cornell University was the great "sleep expert" James Mass...might that be you? That was the most interesting course that I took at Cornell, even though my major was Engineering Physics (class of 2008) :)
Just curious, what is the picture next to your name? It looks like one of those ink drawings they use in psychology experiments...that's what made me think of the connection lol
IVANNN.... BROOOO ...EVERY TIME WHEN YOU ARE POSTING A VIDEO I'M HOPING TO SEE AGAIN YOU ETC 2000 ..... PLEASE .... TRY TO DO AN OTHER VIDEO SOLVING A CASE WITH U ETC2000....
+KALIFUCKER86 Actually I have developed some new testing methods for "short-to-ground" testing that involve a testlight and an amp clamp. The ECT 2000 is a cool tool, but not as accurate as one would hope...
+Clete88 OK, I was a fool this time..... My main job is guessing correctly......wish me luck....I'll need it......I would have sworn this was an ignition wire issue......sigh
That's the DISA Valve. About $150 OEM. Not a dealer only part.
This guy is a good mechanic. Thorough diagnosis and deep knowledge. If I didn’t work on my cars myself I would for sure trust him. We’ll done
Hi Ivan, great video! The lack of a "click" when you push the coil onto the plug is normal. Keep up the good work.
Yep, the DISA valve, a known issue on bmws... great work!!! keep em' coming..

+g johan Thanks for the info! Yeah the peak current on these cheapo coils seemed quite high. Not good for the PCM drivers I imagine.
You, Eric and Paul are about the only guys that can keep me up this late. Nice work calling that one so fast. That's crazy that the dealer can demand so much for a plastic part. I'm just shaking my head, but we've all been there. Thank you kindly for the video, I always enjoy them.
DISA valve, not a dealer only item. those coils are the cheap crappy ones you get from autozone and ngks were the original plug on the m54.

+Upallnight Apparently humor is lost on you.
Apparently you fucked up the joke...
Great video man! BMWs don't like aftermarket coils. And vacuum leaks are like butter on bread. But they're nice when they're running. :)
🤗🤗🤗
Nice troubleshooting & video. Quick down & dirty diagnosis!
Nice fix Ivan. Love your quote, "because you gotta use the scope when you can."
Looking over the comments, people sure do get riled up when a part on a BMW fails! Jeez. That plastic valve went 98kmi so that's not too bad really. +Baxrok2 haha oh yeah gotta hate on the Eurotrash!! Well they wouldn't be too bad if the prices on the disposable plastic pieces weren't so outrageous :)
$400, Blimey! Trouble is, would a second hand one be any better. Love the logic behind swapping coils out on a Vac leak.
Do you have a video about your DIY smoke machine?
kick ass. im work in on the same thing with the same problem
Maybe he should store some spare parts in that storage compartment under the hood.
I've got an '03 E60 530i with a misfire, so this should be relevant to me !
+Devon Morder Why would that code don't match just because its a straight 6? All it says is that its more than 1 cylinder misfiring.
-________-
the vacuum leak is the disa valve. When that goes bad the carwill run lean
You should do a video on how you made the smoke machine
If Mr. moneybags would have left the six old coils in that under hood parts tray maybe you could have found two out of them that still worked which only leaves the $400 piece of plastic left to buy.
Here's a video on the intake boot that is usually the cause of a vacuum leak on a BMW inline 6 engine (M54). As you can see, the boot is located directly below the DISA Valve and any smoke leaking from the boot will also appear to be from the DISA Valve.

I liked the smoke detector. Did you make it yourself ?
Seems there are some aftermarket ones , or at least that part number came up as one , but are they any good or not is another thing .
Hey Ivan can you do a video on how you made your homemade smoke machine ???
I had the same problem on my 2003 325.had to replace the coil and that took care of the problem.
Usual problems with those , DISA valve , Coils, secondary air pump, secondary air flow sensor, PCV valve and all the hoses related to it (moisture freeze and craks) , valve cover gasket leaks , cooling fans (done twice) , burns oil like crazzy (i quart every thousand miles and BMW says is within normal specs) BMW's are money pits i do my own work in my vehicles and I hate my X5 , cant wait to get rid of it, honestly i am going back to my Asian vehicles , Done with German high maintenance cars (yes i have own a VW too , same story with that)
but i like how german cars drive, thats my problem! , i like that stiff to the ground feel like!
I despise my x5. Just one problem after another. All those failing tubes and plastic gizmos.
+ZIGgassedUP Then you need repairs its time to "Bring My Wallet!" haha
They did come with NGK spark plugs.
Great video Ivan. Keep them coming.
What are you using for the source of smoke? Ive made the device. But cant find what works best for the actual smoke source?? Thanks
Baby oil
So, I have an 04 330i ZHP and it has misfires, but not to the point of shaking. Yesterday late afternoon was hot as crap and it just lost power and kept cutting off when I came to stops or slowed down. No smoke or obvious smells. Got it flatbedded to the shop but they’re saying the O2 Upstreams (?) and Plugs are causing the vehicle to behave like this.
I just drove it home, no noticeable issues. Any takes on this?
Oh boy more aftermarket junk, everybody buys buy how low the price is and not how high the quality is. Awesome testing buddy 😊😊
+Steve Rob Yup and then you wonder why the car runs like sh*t lol
+Steve Rob But still, look at that 400$ 'actuator' (aka plastic piece of S*), it is an OEM item and nothing but garbage....(like most parts in BMWs today, unfortunately)
But of course you're right...also in the aftermarket there is quality and junk products...
For that plastic actuator housing I would probably just break out some JB-Weld and seal it up as long as it is still functional.
There is some truth to that saying - buy cheap, buy twice...
You can order it from Sweden from Schmiedmann.se
Or from any other country.. Schmiedmann.de is also an option
about 200 euros incl vat 25%
did you make a video on how you made your smoke machine?
those have vacuum pumps that are just a pain to replace ... i did one few days ago... i HATE BMW .. i work mainly on Mercedes and i believe that they are simpler to work on than other euro crap
The picture next to my name, is a picture of a cat peeking into the room :)
+Jim Maas Oh I thought it as a butterfly lol
do you have a video on how to make that smoke machine?
I had a good laugh at the BMW storage tray haha. And supposedly an OE coil is ~$72 each and the parts store special is ~$28 each. And the owner wonders why its running like crap. If the total bill from you and Absolute Auto Repair are greater than ~$450, not including the replacement of the actuator, then not being cheap would have saved the owner money instead. My thought is if you can afford to own an European car then you should have the money to fix it when it does break. I need another series to watch haha.
So what was the coil problem? Open wire or bad coils?
shitty eBay coils haha
motoYam82 that sucks
Man this was very well done. Logical approach to chasing down these problems. Like, subscribe, and share.
BMW's don't come with Bosch they come with NGK
These days it's hard to tell what you're gonna get. I'm hoping it improves, that way you young folks will stick with it...
Very cool i will be busting out one of these from flee bay .
I have a 2007 bmw 328i and im having 4,5,6 missfire. Im putting all 6 new coils hopefully that fix it. Do you guys have any advice on how to fix it?
German cars+broken parts=starving wallet
I really enjoy your channel, very informative
ok so I know this video is old but did coils fix misfire?
That's a storage tray?! Lmaoo I always wondered wtf tht was 😂🤣
same 😂
@@active507shorts It has a filter and is cabin air intake on my 530i 1 on each side.
It's a 169.00 plus tax at fcp euro life time replacement
Make a video about your homemade smoke tester ;)
WHAT HAPPENED WITH PINE HOLLOW DID U CHANGE THE NAME OF IT???
Nice job, Ivan. BMW= Big Money Wasted.
BMW = broke my wallet 😂
Do you know the difference between a Porcupine and a B.M.W. ? . The Porcupine has the pricks on the Outside
Coils are spring contact.
do u know if engine codes for a misfire can show times or dates from when the misfire occured on bmw diagnostics?
Thanks man for starting some where
Nice work Ivan. Hey I liked the look of your home grown smoke machine, how about a vid on putting one together? Great channel thanks for sharing the skills.
+Flair4Air Actually I got it off Ebay for a bit over $100, and then modified it to my own liking :)
+motoYam82 Thanks Ivan. Down here in Australia the pro machines are about AU$1000 and upwards so I've been looking at making one up myself. Enjoy all your vids and Eric O too.
cheers Clive.
+Flair4Air Oh yeah $1000 is on the cheap end for the pro models. That's a bit steep for a little gizmo that just blows a little smoke :)
Probably some Dorman coils lol.
+rider9195
eBay
Ryan L 😂
those NGK plugs are not cheap but if they are not compatible then they should be changed what did you end up doing to repiar the car?
They are compatible ;) NGK or Bosch are recommended. I use the NGK in my BMW. Like you said, they're not cheap. They're more expensive than Bosch.
eldor coils and Bosch plugs and fix that vacuum he should be fine!
Ivan I repair lots of BMW'S and the most common word to describe them is JUNK.
yes junk!
got 366K kms on mine. Great car to learn on. Yes, not as reliable as Japanese cars. Driving dynamics are amazing for a car of that mileage and age. Went from a trouble free Accord to a 330i, no regrets at all
would 2 injectors side by side goes completely gone would it cause a loud tapping sound
I have no idea what you are asking lol
what are you burning as your smoke?
More info on your smoke machine?
+EZRider1979 Look for "Paint Can Smoke Machine" on youtube.
+EZRider1979 Added link to Ebay listing where I got mine...it did require a few modifications to get it just right.
+motoYam82 Thanks guys!
I've got a 2000 bmw 528i should I remove cam cover and inspect cams and lifters
Are you replacing the valve cover gasket?
I have the same car except its a coupe 2001 330ci same engine. I have p1345 cylinder number 2 misfire with fuel cutoff. Along with p0172 p0175 codes
I got spark . I swapped coils swapped injectors but misfire stays at cyl 2
Fuel trims r at -28% both banks replaced the fuel filter w/fpr
This car is killin me. Would you go after the cyl # 2 misfire or the rich codes first? What could cause rich codes on both banks maf seems to be working
+5Riverz Is it a dead miss, like happening all the time? Otherwise unplug the MAF and see if the fuel trims change at all.
Yup time for a new MAF :)
You are great I will like to have you local to fix me car 2003 X5 3.0 with with the same problem. Mechanics here in SD they just want money and never fix the problem opposite give you more problems.
Scary pop up at the end
These types of cars are all the same great to drive, expensive to fix.
ahh//yes I know what a variable intake runner is ..
the original yamaha V max had them ( i could be talking out of my ass here LOL )
But I did no know that that is what THAT part was for ..thanks
Need to show the fix.
How did you make the smoker?
And the most important item ---UNSCENTED--- baby oil..
cool! Thanks Blazer02ls
The rest of the story? Did the owner pay to play?
+Jim Maas From what I heard the owner elected to just replace the bad coils and plastic actuator. That means he will continue to have misfire issues until all the junk coils are replaced with OEM coils, or at least decent aftermarket ones.
A bit off topic, but my professor for Psychology 101 at Cornell University was the great "sleep expert" James Mass...might that be you? That was the most interesting course that I took at Cornell, even though my major was Engineering Physics (class of 2008) :)
No, I am not the great sleep professor, but I do like to sleep :)
I enjoy your vids.
Thank you 4 reply ivannn....and please DO THAT VIDEO.... I'M WAITING 4 IT
Nice work
great work
Cylinder 4 is misfiring.car shakes a little.ain't running smoothly.
Compression, spark, or fuel...
fuel
might be coils from ebay.
+Randy Gudeahn (ProTech) Randy, I bet you are 100% right :)
فيديو رائع انا من الكويت اتابعك دائما
Just curious, did your country rebuild ok after Saddam Hussain invaded? In USA we never heard the end of the story.
quick and dirty! making that money
I call bad plug wires....gambling...haven't watched it yet...
+Clete88 OK, I was a fool this time..... My main job is guessing correctly......wish me luck....I'll need it......I would have sworn this was an ignition wire issue......sigh
I had a laugh about that one...
"plastic garbage" and bmw go hand in hand!
Awesome
