Before I give my personal opinion, I use the terms K-pop and J-pop to describe the mainstream music of both countries, not just pop. Personally I consider myself a fan of music, I don’t care about genre or what country it comes from. Music is very subjective, so it’s wrong to say that X is better than Y. Personally, I prefer J-pop because of the following reason. J-pop is unique. When it comes to mainstream music there is no other country that produces music that’s sounds like J-pop. Don’t hate me for saying this, but K-pop is just a carbon copy of whatever is popular in the American music industry (mainly rap, edm, contemporary r&b, electro/dance pop). Also, it seems that now a days k-pop is basically all about getting millions of views on RUclips, which now that I think about it that’s not really a bad thing since its lead to some very amazingly well produced music videos, but it just makes it more about the visuals rather than the music. I love Miss A’s "Bad Girl Good Girl" and "Good Bye Baby", I think those are fantastic songs, but other than those (and maybe some early Girls' Generation, I really like Gee) the only reason I watch k-pop videos is because of the fact that I’m a guy and I find most of those girls to be incredibly hot (fine, the guys are hot too)… I don’t do it because I think they are producing music I want to listen to. There is too little variety in K-pop as well, its all about the boy bands and girls bands, the mainstream musical spectrum in J-pop is much, much, wider than K-pop. There is obviously nothing wrong with the way K-pop is produced and marketed, it’s just that when it comes to the music, I prefer J-pop. You have idol groups like Momoiro Clover Z that have songs that might sounds childish and silly to Western listeners, but if you listen to the music you realize how incredibly complex those songs are. I love the ability Japanese musicians, especially those that write idol pop, have of seamlessly mixing a wide array of instruments and music styles into a song that is classified as pop. Even in the more traditional western sounding pop/rock music, there are still so many elements used that are very Japanese in terms of scales, chord progressions, etc. Yeah, you still have the stuff that simply copies whatever is popular in the west (are even tries to be like K-pop) but it’s not as common as the more traditional J-pop. You also have to keep in mind that the Japanese have a pretty decent music industry, they can make music for the domestic market without having to worry about international sales, and despite increased popularity overseas they still produce music for the domestic market. Whereas in the past few years the Korean music industry has been increasingly focusing on the international market which has resulted in the K-pop we see today. Again, nothing bad with that.

You've said it with your own thoughts, which deserves to be appreciated but I'm going to tell you that, to express that, you have to have sound understanding both Kpop and Jpop. I don't think you're not familiar to Kpop at all but you sound like you haven't heard of Kpop music except for boy/girl bands. K pop has more of that bubble gum feel to it. Catchy tune, lots of color, cute girls, or boys, and nice choreography, It's a recipe that will work almost everywhere in the world in almost every culture. Spice Girls anyone? . J pop, has some of that, but it feels less bubble gummy.

i don't listen to pop music a lot but kpop seems to be more professional then jpop. jpop is like childish pop but not like pop, j-rock/metal and some jazzy musics are really great. The difference between kpop and jpop. All kpop groups can become jpop groups but jpop groups can't even ever become kpop groups. Kpop in general is better in dance, rap, and vocals. Even acting and variety show styles. Not saying jpop idols are untalented but, kpop, each group/idol is so unique and different. I love kpop and I always will. To be honest, to all the jpop fans, I truly think you will love kpop if you try. In fact, I really think everyone can love kpop if they try.

Also, it is not one genre of music. It is Japanese Jazz, Japanese Electropop, Japanese Noise, J-Rock, J-Pop, Japanese Electrojazz, Enka and many more. Get your facts right matey :DDD

K pop has more of that bubble gum feel to it. Catchy tune, lots of color, cute girls, or boys, and nice choreography, It's a recipe that will work almost everywhere in the world in almost every culture. Spice Girls anyone? . J pop, has some of that, but it feels less bubble gummy.

일본 pop도 좋다. 하지만 이렇게 kpop과 비교했을 때. kpop의 리듬감과 감정표현이 더 풍부해 보인다. 마치 일본무사의 칼과 조선무사의 칼이, 서로 다른것처럼.물론 난 한국검이 더 뛰어나다고 생각하지만, 보편적으로는 일본도가 세계에서 더 유명하다.
kpop과 jpop의 차이의 원인은 언어, 발성의 차이다. 일본어로도 극복은 가능하나
kpop을 능가하는것은 불가능하다.

애초에 음악에 국경을 둔게 좀 그런데 전 한국인이니까 k pop을 들어서 다른건 잘 모르겠지만 j pop가수인 LiSA는 확실히 노래 찾아가며 들을정도로 좋던데 애초에 j pop은 LiSA 노래 외엔 안들어서 당연히 k pop일 수 밖에
솔직히 옛날에 한국 대중음악은 일본 중국의 영향을 많이 받았지만 지금은오히려 그들이 한국 음악이나 아이돌 그룹을 많이 따라 하는 건 사실이다. 그렇다고 해서 자만하면 일본 도 금새 따라 잡는다. 지금 깨어있는 작곡가 라면 일본과 한국의 장점을 잘 융합해서 만드는게 더 발전 가능성이 클듯 무조건 일본이니 한국이니 깔생각부터 하지말고말이다.

내가 한국사람 이라 그런게 아니라 리듬 음성 언어도 포함되겟고 댄스 기본적으로 한국은 유행에 상당히 민감하게 반응 하는데 아시아 유행이 아니라 세계적 유행에 민감하게 반응 하고 받아들여서 흡수 제탄생이 반복 되죠
일본은 유행에 선도 주자라고 들 하는대 유행에 선도가 아니라 히귀한 것들을 많이 만들어네는 것쯤으로 생각하는게 맞음
그리고 k팝과 j팝이 세계에서 차이가 나는건 음악시장에서부터 차이가 상당히 난다고봐야됨
한국은 음악시장 자체가 작죠 그러니 세계진출과 인지도를 얻어 수익을 내는게 맞다고 판단 미리미리 진출한거고
일본은 지들 자체 시장이 크다보니 세계진출? 이런건 신경도안쓰고 말그대로 자기들 방에 틀어박혀서 자기들끼리 지지고복고하고있으니 차이가나는거임 머앞으로도 차이는 더더욱 날거임
한가지 더 얘기하자면 2주전에 미국 토론토 행사장에서 머 큰행사는 아니지만 일본 제품이랑 한국제품 여러 곳 제품들 홍보하는 행사정도였을거임 그래도 나름 큰행사였는데
일본 회사 제품 홍보할때 일본 음악 댄스팀이 열심히 노래? 대스하고있는데 저기옆에서 엑소랑 빅뱅 뱅뱅뱅 이엑스아이디 이런 노래 나오면서 춤추고있으니 다 그리 몰리더라구요 딱봐도 차이가 어마어마 하게남 환호소리도 들리고 완벽한 비교는 아니지만 그런곳에서 조차 차이는 확연히 나고있음

i don't listen to pop music a lot but kpop seems to be more professional then jpop. jpop is like childish pop but not like pop, j-rock/metal and some jazzy musics are really great. Korea has kpop for good entertainment and Japan has many great artists but not pop..but i really respects those japanese artists who make some real musics

The difference between kpop and jpop. All kpop groups can become jpop groups but jpop groups can't even ever become kpop groups. Kpop in general is better in dance, rap, and vocals. Even acting and variety show styles. Not saying jpop idols are untalented but, kpop, each group/idol is so unique and different. I love kpop and I always will. To be honest, to all the jpop fans, I truly think you will love kpop if you try. In fact, I really think everyone can love kpop if they try.
I listen to both but I should say, I prefer solo jpop artists compared to group
