@OriginalPiMan ,that's good to know. Will make it more intense when playing. My idea was so you start the game with 10000 or something then that number stays relevant for all the levels. Kinda like survival on the doggo pilgrimage
Considering how many entities are on screen at any given time, I'm surprised the game manages to run as well as it does! Great job to the developers!!!
There are quite some nice techniques that even indie devs can use nowadays. One thing I would have never thought of is using a particle system to simulate a lot of characters on the screen. Still not easy to get done right, so it’s still rather rare 🤓😊
It shouldn't be too tough, since they crowd doesn't really need to truly simulate all of the units In a high fidelity way. They are more simulated as a field. The gridded behavior also helps since they can just completely ignore checking anything other than the grid they are in.
Lemmings was the first game I thought of when I saw this. They did actually make a 3D one and demo'd a second. They weren't bad, but I kinda preferred the originals.
The tech wasn't ready for Lemmings 3D. Needed more horsepower to be able to look at more of the level at a time. Needed advancements in game design to get more practical camera controls.
Lemmings was 2D. You used them to make walls, tunnels, staircases etc and you only had a certain number of lemmings (I can't remember if that was every level or only certain levels, too long for me too but I loved the game) to successfully get them to the exit...or plummet to their doom!
There was a similar game that IO rememvber a friend had in their ps4, about 2018. The premise there, was that Bob was sleep walking, so you had to set up obstacles/directions to avoid him falling and waking up. and giude him "Back to Bed". Quite a shhort game, but good puzzle-fun, cool sound design. You also played a dog, of sorts, in that game!
This might not be quite up your alley, at least in terms of how to go about playing it as it is normally only unlocked fully by playing far into the main game, but the PS2 game Xenosaga III has a minigame called HaKox; This game somewhat reminded me of that in concept of controlling folks that are constantly moving. It gives you a series of stages of increasing difficulty where you use different button controls to move objects in each stage, the rate at which characters can spawn, and the speed at which characters can move in an effort to get a quota of respective colors in total to be met by the end of each stage... AND you sometimes can only achieve a quota by earning simultaneous goal reaching bonuses along the way. It is surprisingly technical, often requires that you alter camera angles, and even the subtle default turning motions of characters can have them sent flying way off as their directions when catapulting them is not as gridlike as the stages, but actually following along with their actual character positions. Should be an interesting test of your problem solving skills if you can ever come across that game and a cleared enough file that lets you play HaKox in full.
First off, big fan of the channel, thanks for always entertaining vids. A game to consider in your puzzle game quest, not very recent but worth a look if you've never seen or played it, is Opus Magnum. Hard to describe - it's kind of like building molecules - a little different from others I've seen you play on the channel, but guessing a fellow engineer would enjoy it as much as I have (many hours logged, I still go back to it from time to time). One of the best puzzle games I've ever played. Have a look and see what you think!
Matt have you ever played "World of Goo"? I guess it is one of the best constructing-puzzle games I know and a real classic! I'd love to see you give it a try!
Wow, this video had me in stitches! As an Engineer myself, I could totally relate to the challenges of crowd management. Watching you navigate the crowds and strategically direct them through obstacles was both entertaining and nerve-wracking. It's amazing how a simple command or gesture can save countless virtual lives. This video reminded me of the challenges I face as a Mechanical Engineer! Just like in the game, I often find myself navigating complex systems and solving puzzles to achieve the desired outcome. Great content, keep up the good work.
thank god you actually try to collect all the goldies lol saw another yter play this and he just winged it. the completionist in me was complaining of how unsatisfying it was lol.
thanks for posting videos like these i really needed to smile after having a massive heart attack on may 31 then 3 stints put in my heart just happy to be able to smile at something for a change in the last few days
You should try open TTD it's basically city skylines but it focuses on infustructor more like wast, death, health doesn't matter but u need a yt vid for a tutorial.
@@Wibbs yeah but it’s more torment, because he has to help the architects in charge, so he would be doing more things as an architect, making more mistakes, mistakes, mistakes ect.
This is just Lemmings! Lemmings living in suspiciously minimal, and completely impractical... architecture! They even did a Lemmings 3D. Same game, except Lemmings was quite a bit more inventive, and the Lemmings were cuter than these generic corporate people that are surely taxing our dude's graphics card.
This game is what happens when the lemmings game has a baby with the assassin's creed 3 animus tutorial level and no I will not explain myself further.
In my head i like to think that the game starts with a set amount of people and if you're too bad at it then you could run out on the later levels :')
Some later levels have an explicitly finite number of humans.
@OriginalPiMan ,that's good to know. Will make it more intense when playing.
My idea was so you start the game with 10000 or something then that number stays relevant for all the levels. Kinda like survival on the doggo pilgrimage
The game said that the human souls are reused (not the goldys)
Honestly same
So basically like the lemmings game? :P

I'm curious about how Josh from Let's Game It Out would manage to kill the FPS in this game..

It’s bizarre to think that those people would jump to their death if a dog wouldn’t tell them to literally float

@OriginalPiMan Yeah the couple static camera options really held it back.
I 100% went to the same place in my mind.
I feel like the human brains in this game were made by architects.
No they’re made by dogchitects
You mean by robots
Nah bro they are architects
@@luzellemoller6621 architects are not robots, but i know they are as smart as an unprogrammed one
@@Dave0439 I didn't say they are robots I said the minds of the humans are eprogrammed by eobots
The VR version of this puts you in a god like position over the level. It is kind of a power trip.
so we become a flying dog?

There was a Lemmings 3D though. :P
This reminds me of the 90's game "Lemmings" - Awesome. Buying this.
The levels on this game get insane visually and in scale, would love to see RCE play to those levels
Matt: *he sees 2 blocks* 10 meter fall
Also Matt: *he sees 3 blocks* 50 meter fall
Lemmings started out as 2D on DOS but later had some 3D varients. This is definitely the latest step in that "evolution". ;)
How dare you?!? Those weren't even lemmings!
Please, continue playing this. It's amazing!
I like seeing RCE having fun in a game whose scenarios where clearly made by an architect with an affinity for brutalism 😜

Lemmings, now with more Dog.
I'd love to see more of this! There's a specific level I think you'll like
what is the game called?
@@gustavlasthein3923 The level I'm thinking of is The Blue Core

Now you need to play lemmings, so nostalgic!

I read this as “I send thousands to their dorm...”, saw the picture, then thought:
“Ah, yes, this perfectly encapsulates the college experience.

"Wow, this is gonna require a unique solution. Better not show what that is."

Looks like a new version of Lemmings
Besides the level that was called Loop, you didn't need to loop anything.

The game is on the PS+ game catalog right now. Great game.
Actually a really cool game, I wouldn’t mind another episode or two!
Lemmings has finally been remastered !
Sad they forgot the "ho no"
If there was a 3D Lemmings I never saw it, good video, would be up for more!
There was a Lemmings 3D. .. There was also a Lemmings Paintball, but I don't know that that was made by the Lemmings people.
No one said Lemmings yet. Soooo, Wohooo Lemmings!!!
0:23 It can't be as cute as paddy, paddy is qualified to do Bridge Reviews.
Haha it's like Lemmings but with humans
Reminds me of the visitors from Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and absolutely torturing them by making them living bowling pins.
I can already tell the people-falling-off-the-cliff part is more fun than the people-pulled-into-a-transporter-beam part.
thats.. thats a human version of "Lemmings"
It's funny that he said "counting isn't maths right?"
Cause I had to spend a full month and a half learning about "Counting" in Discrete Math
POV of the people in this game = Just got raptured, but now there's a skill check that nobody was told about in advance.
Those people there are definitely architects
"Come on less thinking, more swarming" -Bill the krill.
God damn it. I knew a bridge review was coming the second you spoke the last level’s title.
I don’t know. Seems pretty accurate. People following the crowd without questioning anything or thinking for themselves lol

Sorta like old school Lemmings(tm) for sociopaths.
To fall down or to fall up? That's basically this game
