CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Despite their incessant arguing, Marcus (Martin Lawrence) and Mike (Will Smith) thwart a couple of would-be carjackers.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Former video director Michael Bay had his first big hit with this action comedy, which also returned producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson to the big-budget, high-violence movies that they successfully churned out in the '80s. Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are two Miami cops who watch as 100 million dollars in heroin, from the biggest drug bust of their careers, is stolen out of the basement of police headquarters. This puts them hot on the trail of French drug lord Fouchet (Tchéky Karyo), who leaves a trail of bodies in his wake and only one witness, Julie Mott (Téa Leoni), who quickly teams up with our heroes. Comic hijinks ensue when plot complications force Mike to impersonate the married Marcus, to the point of moving in with his wife and children, while Marcus takes over Mike's bachelor pad and lifestyle. Car chases, snappy one-liners, and nonstop pacing fuel this umpteenth variation on the cop "buddy" formula.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s dynamic as Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett is so hilarious with Mike being the straight man and Marcus being the funny man in this action-packed comedy duo.
I miss this Marcus. Man, Martin was killing it in the 90s, absolutely unrivaled. Just wish the sequels still had some of this edginess to the character. By Bad Boys 3, they made Marcus more or less Mike's sidekick, when it's clear judging by this film that Marcus has the chops to be his own action hero. I understand character development and that Marcus is now older and a grandfather, but I just miss the edginess that his character had in the first film. Fingers crossed the 4th film will give Marcus at least one big badass moment to play with.
I thought that Marcus had some good moments in Part 3.
Legit, I've had the same thoughts! I think that's why the first one is so timeless- they both contribute and are seen as equals; in fact, Martin was the top cast at the time by a small margin iirc.
Marcus is a better cop who definitely has the capability to hold his own, while Mike is the better "cowboy" type who uses boldness to get them out of situations they couldn't escape by conventional means.
They have to get Micheal Bay to direct it this time, 3 was disappointing.

Lawrence was such a lively actor during this time. Can definitely tell he was in his prime during the film sort of like Eddie Murphy in the first Beverly Hills Cop. In the later films, his character changed maybe due to the changes in the actor's life and career. He becomes more tired and grumpy. He even sounds different.

@@MrAgodine I'm not sure you watched his show on Fox, but he was basically the Martin character as a cop. In the sequel, he doesn't have the comedic presence like he did in this film. The films are all still very good, but kind of miss this version of him.

Martin was one of those that peaked and primed fast, to me he was the heir apparent to the throne after Eddie started to decline in the early 90's. Martin was at his absolute best from 92' to 96', when he and Will got together to do Bad Boys while both had hit shows in 95' was like a Christmas wish as a kid. They'll never be another era and character like Martin in the 90's.
