As a youth champion latin and ballroom dance of the Netherlands in the early eighties I can only say " this guitar solo kinda grabs the tango by the booboo, don't it?!"
this is one of many examples where Frank’s aesthetic can be jarring - amusing himself, first and foremost - in this case playing “whole tone” scales, which most people will hear as something that is not expected / desired in an electric guitar solo, ya’ know? like “wth is he doing?.. can this guy even play guitar?” kind of thing, would be a common reaction lol ahh Frank 😊 seanM
This album and Zappa lineup is brilliant. Songs like Yo Mama, Flakes, and Broken hearts are for assholes! Its great music with hilarious content. Adrian Belews impression of Bob Dylan is spot on.
After studying this date and the songlist from this concert....I have deduced that it was during THIS guitar solo from THIS concert that David Bowie was backstage... and when Adrian Belew left the stage during this guitar solo to get a cola...David Bowie stole him from Zappa's group.
The meeting between Bowie and Belew was, indeed, at this concert but I tend to think it happened earlier in the show during the longer solo, that which made Rat Tomago. Speculation, of course.
A good Zappa solo but not top tier for me. From his most successful album, almost entirely from London and Germany. It's sort of "fake live" with the amount of overdubs/engineering done on this. I like this but don't love it. Still a good pick from Wayne, especially when you consider what we have for the rest of the week, 😜

What a beautiful soundtrack behind the conversation between Belew and Bowie...
