Goldstein and Daley wrote as a duo (and were once attached as directors before leaving due to creative differences), while Harold worked solo, strongly suggesting that multiple, and likely conflicting, story treatments were folded into the final script. When you’re working from story treatments by different writers who were attached before the final screenwriter even came on board, writers who almost certainly had very different takes on The Flash, you can already imagine how fractured the final script was bound to be, especially since Goldstein and Daley were originally set to direct but exited over creative differences. What I’m saying is that, as responsible as Hodson ultimately was for the screenplay in The Flash, she was pretty much doomed from the start, having to stitch together competing creative visions on a project that had already spent decades stuck in development hell. A similar thing happened with The Mummy reboot starring Tom Cruise, where the script passed from a solo writer to a duo, then to another duo who didn’t collaborate with the previous team, and finally to yet another solo writer, again without real collaboration, resulting in a patchwork story that never fully cohered 🤷

I feel that way as well. The movie had the building blocks of a classic Ghost Rider and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man comic book hit, but Ezra Miller and some of the other things attached to that universe at the time really dragged it down. Still enjoyed the movie

I disagree for Brand New Day. You don’t need much marketing because everyone already loves the IP. We don’t need to have the whole plot knowing we have Endgame at the end of the year. Why does everyone need to know the entire movie before seeing it???
I also agree that we shouldn't be quick to judge something before a movie comes out. I'm willing to think that the writers and cinematographers behind Batman & Robin went on to do better movies after the fact. The cinematographer behind the Flash (2023) also did Superman (2025). I understand that the Flash was another major low for comic book movies. I'm beginning to think that Batgirl should've been the last movie in the DCEU (regardless if it was meant to be a sequel to the Flash or canon in-universe or not). It was still going to have Michael Keaton play Batman, it was going to pay a much better homage to both Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher's Batman continuities, and there was no Erza Miller in sight. It would've been much better and quieter for the DCEU to end on some random standalone movie than end it with more baggage from the fallout of the Snydercut movement that fractured and divided many fans of DC. But just because one creative team has a bad time working on one project doesn't mean people like Andy Muschietti are inherently bad creatives. I still had a fun time watching his IT movies even if I felt the second movie was just a repeat of the first one. Welcome To Derry was a good show! Unlike some other people, I could honestly care less if Andy Muschietti is going to direct another Batman movie or not. I felt like how he handled Pennywise, Andy can direct that same creativity with the other Batman villains. So I'm still open to see him take another shot at it if he wants to. I may not have liked Bubblebee or Birds or Prey either, but knowing that the writer also did Paranorman, then I'm hoping maybe we can see something 'supernatural' with this first outing of the DCU Batman. I also don't have any issues with the potential direction of Superman and Maxima. James Gunn "having a way" with writing women in his movies is something that never stood out to me. I always felt like he just writes funny and interesting characters. If the panic in the sky arc is how we can get the Justice League in the first chapter, all I can say is just let's see how it goes. I had the he man toys, watched the cartoon, loved the original film when I was a kid, so I’m super excited for masters of the universe, cos’ to me it’s nostalgia personified, but we shall see what the main trailer looks like.

That's actually not what Gunn said. He never said that production won't start until The Batman Part 2 releases, he simply said that there won't be too many updates on TBAB during the production of Part 2. It's still highly likely that TBAB starts filming at some point in 2027.
Hot take: Birds of Prey is actually pretty decent and a lot of fun. Yeah, the villain is pretty cookie-cutter, but Ewan McGregor as Black Mask was clearly having a blast, and I couldn’t stop smiling whenever he was on screen. I also loved Huntress and really wish we’d gotten to see more of Mary Elizabeth Winstead in future movies, and the action scenes, reportedly led by a choreographer from the John Wick films, were pretty solid. Birds of Prey isn’t perfect, but when you compare it to Suicide Squad (2016) and much of the rest of the DCEU, it looks ironically great, is tightly paced, and ends up being one of the better entries in that universe. Heck, I enjoyed it even more than Aquaman and The Flash 😂
Disagree they turned birds of prey into a Harley Quinn movie. They completely butchered Cassandra Caine. Black Mask was kinda a joke after a while and meh on the story as a whole. It's just as bad as the 2016 Suicide Squad movie. At least that's my opinion

Edit 2: 14:20 honestly I feel like she's not a bad choice given that she was the writer of the canceled batgirl film; and while the flash wasn't perfect (then again I don't think the writing is why that movie 100% failed) it did given the Gunn's DCU fresh ground to start with. Also if were keeping score this would be Hodson's thrid batman related DC project after Birds of Prey, Batgirl, and the Flash so hiring her does make sense along with the fact she has somewhat of understanding of the fact Gotham is a character.
Because if you look at the Gotham that appears in Birds of Prey and compare that to the Gotham in BvS its a little night and day.
The flash is Batman 3 to me.

Thank you for sharing all of these updates. I’m a huge fan of Maxima so I’m personally looking forward to seeing her in the next Superman movie. They have some incredible character tension. Also I’m still looking forward to Brave and the Bold because I really want to see Batman in a movie where he’s more developed as a crime fighter and we’re finally past seeing him as a “beginner”. I’m really excited about Spider-Man as well even though I’m a little bit cautious about all the stuff that seems to be tacked onto this next chapter. That's actually not what Gunn said. He never said that production won't start until The Batman Part 2 releases, he simply said that there won't be too many updates on TBAB during the production of Part 2. It's still highly likely that TBAB starts filming at some point in 2027.

Hot take: Birds of Prey is actually pretty decent and a lot of fun. Yeah, the villain is pretty cookie-cutter, but Ewan McGregor as Black Mask was clearly having a blast, and I couldn’t stop smiling whenever he was on screen. I also loved Huntress and really wish we’d gotten to see more of Mary Elizabeth Winstead in future movies, and the action scenes, reportedly led by a choreographer from the John Wick films, were pretty solid. Birds of Prey isn’t perfect, but when you compare it to Suicide Squad (2016) and much of the rest of the DCEU, it looks ironically great, is tightly paced, and ends up being one of the better entries in that universe. Heck, I enjoyed it even more than Aquaman and The Flash 😂

Disagree they turned birds of prey into a Harley Quinn movie. They completely butchered Cassandra Caine. Black Mask was kinda a joke after a while and meh on the story as a whole. It's just as bad as the 2016 Suicide Squad movie. At least that's my opinion

@benmalsky9834 but we’re talking about Spider-Man. The best thing that she’s ever done is Tasm2. The worst thing that she’s ever done is the Spider-Man villain spinoffs. So hopefully we get lucky and she just is really good at making Spider-Man movies and sucks at making villain movies.
