Thanks for uploading the video. Just got a HP 800-G2 Mini and awaiting a DP-HDMI converter. Will update to the latest 2.61 bios following your instruction. When you install the OS, do you not have to modify the Bios from Legacy to UEFI (secure boot), or are the HP business units set to 'Secure Boot' as default?
Just reading specifications on a seller's website is not sufficient. I ordered two of these from Amazon ("certified refurbished") and they did not contain the ports or were in the condition advertised: one had no USB-c port, one had two VGA ports and only one DP, and both were not in at least cosmetically refurbished condition. I sent them both back. Ordered one from an eBay seller after considerable correspondence about what it had; it had more than I had bargained for (it had WiFi which hadn't been promised) and was cheaper than the units I had ordered elsewhere.
Thank you for bringing up Bitlocker again. I found it running on systems when I did not know it was engaged. From an admin command prompt, run manage-bde -status . If it says your drive is encrypted and you don't want it to be, run manage-bde -off c:
I just ordered two 65 watt bare bones minis from eBay for 62 dollars. Waiting to build them out with the max CPU and Memory. These are great little boxes. Very tough, as you say, "built like a tank"!
Carey I want to thank you for sharing the live stream. I was not able to see it as I was at the hospital not feeling good. On any of the pre built HP or Dell is there a possibility that the bios would update through installing the operating system? Thanks for being real! John
I did a video (although no where as good as this), because I was suprised about the Cheap/inexpensive decent running computers out there (especially the HP Elitedesk 800 G2). It's the replacement for my desktop that tanked. Your statements about business computers being strong are right on. From my experience, this HP has the Windows 10 license internally (maybe bios, I don 't know). That made my Windows 10 clean install great. I also have the Win7 drivers, because I will use my Win7 Hard drive. Why? Because I don't want to pay Microsoft, Adobe and others again because they don't support Windows 10 without re-purchasing the new versions, that aren't much better than old versions. Anyway, this video is excellent and I am only into the first 18 minutes of it.
I own 6 of these G2s ... 4x the model you have and 2x the more powerful i7-6700 version. These i7 and 3x the 6500's are being used in a 5-node ESXi cluster, each with 32GB RAM, 1TB NVMe and 1TB SATA SSD. Also using USB network adapters. These are great little machines. I'm running Win 11 on one of them. You can upgrade the TPM from v1.2 to v2.0 via HP software. No issues.
Picked up 4 of the G3s from an auction and I've been trying to find projects to use them in for resume padding. I was kind of surprised they all worked since they were listed as for parts.
I love these Micro PCs. I have one from Dell that I got on Ebay . It is a Dell OptiPlex 3060 Micro 6-Core i5-8500T 2.1GHz 8GB RAM 256GB NVME. I use it as a secondary PC for testing Windows 11.
Carey, if someone says they are refurbing or renewing, I expect it to be clean, bios updated and cmos battery replaced. Otherwise, what have they really done to add value? And all are simple to do.
Thanks for this. Got to love Dell bios updates after doing this, but this makes it easy. Love it when you find videos of this sort that require you to be clever enough to follow the steps, but not so complicated you have to be a high level tech.
I really wish that I had seen this when it was a live stream. My arthritis took my knees over. Thank you Carey. I have some questions, but they can wait until The members only live stream next Monday.
Great stories after the installation and updates to the mini PC I laughed so hard. But you are right 😀 As it is always said "KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!!! Love it. (Rolling on the floor laughing) Common Sense. Good advice on questioning and doing your own research if you have questions. Thanks, Great Video 😀
Great video. I urge people to buy one of these instead of a mini pc. I am kicking myself everyday for not buying this. I wasted money on a mini pc from Bmax that lasted 3 months. This mini desktop from HP is really, really good. 😊
I bought one of these little things a month ago to McGyver into a Plex server. It made no complaints about me installing win11 on it. Fun little machine :)
I now own 2 of these mini PC's mine is the intel 6500 65w one's at the moment they both run 8gb memory with a small 128gb ssd for now one has the original windows 10 pro cloned over to the ssd works really well the other i did install windows 11 pro yes its mot supported but i think it runs better than windows 10 even intel gave me a HD530 windows 11 driver i get 0 errors so far only put it on for testing and it works that well so keeping it on there for the time being
Just wanted to let you know that I think that you are doing a great job. I have never created RUclips videos, but have been in the PC business for years as well and it is refreshing to see live video. Mistakes happen, unexpected things pop up all the time and its great to see your work. Ty
thanks!! hopefully this will provide me a great basic 2D CAD-machine. I'm using ActCAD [seriously, the best-AutoCAD-alternative! your welcome] which seems to require little. What's the MAX for RAM?? 32 would be cool :-) but 16's been doing fine. buona fortuna! sub/liked
Free tech advice, step by step, unedited. Love it. I'll be using your video to refurb the HP 705 G4 I just bought today.

Hi Carey,
how about idle or full-load power(electricity) consumtion of these boxes?
would you recommend this as a home server/NAS?

Hi - I just found your channel and just wanted to say thanks for the helpful content. Very much appreciate your expertise.

I disable bitlocker on every install.
Thanks for mentioning it.

Wow It seems this PC is still supported by HP. As I see latest BIOS (2.60) was released on Feb 14 2023.
Linux can be an option then run it till the wheels come off and replace it. You already know that.
Carey can you recall who the seller you purchase these from? The links you provided aren't working right now? Thanks
Thanks

Just because you ate poison and it didn't kill you doesn't mean you're healthy or won't have consequences later.
HP EliteDesk 800 G4 version will be Windows 11 ready because they have an 8th generation processor.

Amazon India is selling the same model (certified refurbished) Core i5 6th Gen with WINDOWS 11 Genuine installed
There is no support for windows 11 on the i5-6500T and that is being sold by a sketchy third-party. This is common in India, unfortunately.
Thanks Carey for the detailed job. The content is very educative. I would like to know if the particular machine supports nvme drives. Thanks.
i have dell optiplex 5060 sff love it i5 8500 3ghz 16 gigs dd4 256 m.2 nvidia geforce gt 730 2gb love love love pay 200$
Thanks for the BIOS update procedure. I am skipping Windows and going to a Linux distro.

That G2 probably came from our Corporation 😂
