It's strange, I, like you, was keen to go into the military and did, then subsequently got into civilian mountaineering and ended up as the Chief Mountaineering Instructor for the Irish Defence Forces. I find your passion for mountaineering is infectious, which is only great for those who want to get out and explore the wilder spaces of wherever we live.
Hi Ian, I know a little about the scheme but only know one person who has done the training. It's only run over in Ireland so most here won't have heard of it. I'm sure it's a good scheme, but a little limiting in terms of where you can work.
@@JBMountainSkills Yea it sure is.I have it completed also. I'm very surprised it hasn't been adopted and used in the Uk even as a pre requirement for the MCI I found after the SPA that you were on your own when it came to MP climbing. I'm hoping to go for my MCI in the near future, I really think it will be benefical having it completed, there is a lot of similar systems from the MCI. Loving all your video's, keep them coming.
Nice one Jez. I’m not sure what is going to happen when we all manage to get back to work! I suspect I will keep referring to these vlogs. You didn’t mention the IML; do you have any advice/top tips on this award?
Jeremy Ballard I’ll be going back to work for a holiday...! I haven’t done my IML and it’s not really my area of expertise so I’ll have to leave that advice to someone else I’m afraid.
Awesome video! Super helpful and such a blessing to have all this information provided on YT. As someone who spends a lot of time soloing in the mountains, how do I know if I am ready for the ML training? Would my trips still count as QMDs? Cheers again!
As long as you have the minimum number of QMDs (20), you're ready! The training is really thorough, and solo stuff counts, so if you have the QMDs get involved :)
Is the MCI equivalent in the US AMGA (American Mountain Guides Association) certifications? It looks like they want you to be certified as a wilderness first responder (in addition to CPR certified) before starting the process. Did MCI have any medical training prerequisites?
MCI is broadly similar to the Rock Guide part. You have to have a fairly basic first aid ticket before MCI assessment, but it's up to you or your employer to make sure you have an appropriate one for the work you do.
Can you name the route that’s the thumbnail for this video? Have you done it?
Cheers bud !!!
A dream of white horses
Epic Content. Can you do something similar for RCi with a brief breakdown of the skills you need.😀
Luke Thornton yeah a few people have asked so I’ll see what I can come up with 👊
Nice one Jez
Great Vid mate, looking to get booked on to a MCI course soon! Thanks
Enjoy it, it's an ace course!

Really useful insights into the different schemes - thanks
Glad it was helpful!
What is your opinion on the Multi pitch Award (MPA) if you have heard about it? It seems to be only run in Ireland.

What branch of the military would you have joined Jez?

is the MIC qualification similar to IFMGA?
MCI is similar to the rock climbing part, WMCI is similar to the winter climbing part, but is UK based only and non Alpine.
The waffle is funny
Haha, thanks!
