My old-maid Aunt Mary had this exact model, same color scheme! Parked it in front of her house on one of the steepest hills in Paterson. I remember a lot of rides in the back seat with a bunch of cousins, going for ice cream. But my favorite part was always the car itself.
That's a really nice DeSoto! Groucho Marx would've liked this one, since DeSoto was his sponsor. The interior is beautifully appointed and looks quite comfortable. Engine sounds great. DeSoto was already becoming ChryCo's neglected middle child by 1954. By the end of 1960, DeSoto would be history.
You will have much better cranking if you replace those 4 gauge battery cables with 1 gauge cables. 6 volt starters draw twice the amps as 12 volt starters, so thick battery cables are mandatory.
what a tough looking car so wonderfully built
Indeed, a rare beauty.

My folks could have used one of these cars. Looks like it rode smoothly and comfortably. I missed out.
Looks like a fine car. DeSoto was good in its day.
