The problem with liberal/conservative labels divorced from issue positions is the huge discrepancy between how Americans sort it out and what they attach to the labels. Only the culture war issues line up. Social and economic policy opinions often vary from assumed tribal support or condemnation.
You could not be more wrong. He put aside his businesses and lavish life to serve the country. He's lost half of his wealth doing so. All other presidents somehow become super wealthy while being president.
I have felt an increase in my own positive feelings for Harris. A year ago and before I would have been hesitant to have had her as the nominee. She seemed weaker in the Democratic primary four years ago: she didn’t win her home state, she dropped out of the race before Super Tuesday, I was a Bernie stan. But now I’m super stocked to have her as the nominee. I’ve been trying to think of why that is and perhaps it’s that the talk around her is more positive, she has more experience now and has been serving as the next-in-line to the president for four years, and that she’s not up against so many others and we’re just comparing her to the Biden who seems to be declining. I’ve surprised myself at how excited I am to vote for her, but I don’t think excitement will diminish before the election. She’s a historic candidate and she and Walz bring such an optimism, hope, and joyfulness for the future and for towards the country.
The No Tax On Tips thing makes me so furious. American service sector wages are already super low, and tipping is already ridiculously high. This will make pay and conditions worse for low income earners, and the guess the actual price game so much worse for consumers.
Agreed, I never understood what problem it solves. All it does is encourage employers to make their workers income more tip-based, which is highly variable. We are not going to re-build the middle class on tips. I doubt the policy will ever pass, but it would mean the average SS payments for tip-workers would drop, increase the deficit, and save poor people little income since they barely pay any income taxes anyway. Really we need general income growth, and lowering prices on housing.
She is also wanting to increase the minimum wage for those earners to 7.25 (or more i'm not sure) vs 2.25 or whatever it is nationally. The no tax thing is just supposed to help the higher tip earners in high cost of living areas. There are a lot more policies they want to enact to help the middle/working class as well.

Honestly Democrats should go after Trump, Vance, and the GOP in general for being too conservative. What is interesting is back in 2016 more Americans thought Hillary Clinton was too liberal then thought Donald Trump was too conservative. But Trump is pretty conservative (tho more right wing populism than conservative) but if Dems can grow a spine and argue Republicans are too conservative like on abortion or the economy or immigration and actually do well with messaging it could work.
She seems to be afraid to speak without a teleprompter. And when she speaks without a speech in front of her, her comments are often shallow. We know her positions only 3-4 years ago were exceedingly left wing and would be terrible for the country. Why can’t Democrats run a true moderate like Shapiro? It’s frankly mind boggling how Americans can allow themselves to be gaslit by the DNC-Media into believing that this shallow-minded person can take on Putin & Xi.

The really sad thing is that you never see any shift in Republican base voters- it’s all about changes in enthusiasm among Democrats, and some opinion shifts among independents. So disappointing to see continuing immutability among Republican voters who are clearly just willing to submit to essentially autocracy.
@@irwinshung809 We've already been through this before, Trump lost in 2020 and people he endorsed lost in 2022. Nothing is going to pull his support away including more losses. I wouldn't know how to answer the question about whether Harris is very liberal. I don't think she's particularly ideological. I think she shifts her opinions to match what she perceives to be the popular sentiment.
I want my politicians to follow public opinion rather than pretending we’re magically aligned. Shouldn’t the person in office reflect the people’s preferences?
