This church rose from the ashes of destruction to fill the the surrounding city with the joyful sound of its bells and be a place of worship for its congregation once more. I would love to see this church someday as its mission of reconciliation and the how it rose up from ruins is something I find inspiring.
Moving and beautiful. The bells cry for all who are lost, and all who fight still. If I was there I would sit quietly and listen to the whole peal, allowing the haunting sounds to guide my thoughts. Music, and the sound of bells, takes us to another world. Thanks for this.
Currently Holy Trinity has two bells.... on a roof there is a small bell hung for swing chiming, cast by Taylors in 1925, and in a side porch there is the Sanctus, disused and dangling from a piece of the old 1600s bellframe, It was cast in the 1700s by William Brooke of Bromsgrove.
I am installing a small organ at Sidney Sussex College in Cambridge. Last night I heard change ringing here! I almost wept! I am so happy to be in this beautiful country of yours. Best of luck to your partner in the wild world of organ building!
Holy Trinity, which had a ring of eight (23cwt) in a separate campanile. They were melted down and used in the former Christchurch Cathedral twelve. In the 'lost rings' section of Church Bells of Warwickshire website if you want to read more.
Oh my. It seems I have just learned something. So tower bells are sometimes muffled? What must such a device be like?? And what an INCREDIBLE effect! I'm just an organ builder, so what do I know! Incredible sound...
Since the clapper strikes the bell on two different sides, a leather muffle can be tied to one side of the clapper for this sound (though I appreciate it's something of a late reply).
@virginiaorganbuilder which fits neatly over one side of the clapper. it is then attatched with straps above and below l. some people use duct tape so there is no chance of them turning. and what do you know as an organ builder? a hell of a lot. organs are superb things. my partner has recently become a tuner and trainee voicer here in the midlands.

These are bells that do not lose their tune with the muffles! Beautiful ring these are!

They sound even better with the muffles on!

Makes me want to ring there - beautiful noise.
Which is the nearby church with an impressive spire? Does it have (or did it have) bells?
Thank you for the info.
Really really nice sound.
Such beautiful ruins of a cathedral..this coming from someone who left Coventry 39 years ago..
