Just truing my first wheel and this video fills in a lot of the gaps missing from other vids - he has already worked out the problems a novice will encounter and answers all of them - a truly great teacher.
This and the previous on how to build the rim are the two best videos on how to build and true a rim thanks man you are a great teacher believe it or not no one else explains how to detention a rim and the small tricks you explained to help with the "heartache" lol thanks again great job!
This wheel building series is really an excellent tutorial! I purchased a wheel building book and I can honestly say that these 2 videos are easier to follow. Thanks a lot!
I hope you are doing well. That was so well done and included so many important details that make me feel very confident that I can build a very reliable, strong wheel! I've invested time watching some very seasoned Master wheel builders and I just want to say I think you're up there too thank you very much sir, may Jesus Christ bless you and your family.
Thats brilliant. THanks for showing all the details. Very comprehensive. Will be building my first wheelset this week and this is a huge help in giving me the confidence that i'll get it right!
This is the best instructional video I've watched. In the past I used a couple vids by "TheBikeTube". However, I find this one to be much better and if followed properly, your wheel build will likely work well your fist attempt. Thanks for the vid!
I thank you very much Chris for taking your time to show the true way to true a wheel .I had a great time watching you show off your skills at trusting and building a wheel from beginning to end.I pick of some great tips for future use on my own wheels.desperately will consider in buying the trusting stand ,dish tool and tension spoke tool keep those videos goingVictor from New Jersey
This was an excellent followup to the first video. Clear and concise instructions. I liked that you pointed out that patience was needed and you would need to go through several iterations before completion. The idea of breaking the process up over a few days seems to be well advised. Can you tell me where you purchased your rim, hub, spokes, etc? Maybe an additional video on how to make a wise purchasing decision when selecting components would be nice. Thanks again for these inspirational videos and helping me spend my money on some new wheel building tools. :-)
thanks a lot for uploading this tutorial. I was able to tear apart an old wheel, put back together, play with the dishing and got it true. thanks for helping me putting a skill in my pocket. will invest in one of those tools to measure tension. thanks again
Wow! Incredibly useful information. Why do people typically use a rim like the Dyad, with a 19mm inner, for touring bikes? Wouldn’t it be wiser to use a wider rim, such as the Cliffhanger with a 25 mm inner width? Thank you the information and expertise that you have shared.
Thank you, I want to suggest you that please make a video on wheel building for a completely new 27.5/700c wheel, how can I choose the right hub for my wheel rim? How can I choose spoke length? This kind of video will be very helpful for us.
I give up. I have a different style rim that's 2 inches or 60mm with the holes on both side with what I found was a 17mm offset. I got the offset for the disk break rotor and all the hub measurements.. This is the third time I bought spokes that are the incorrect size. I went by exactly what the calculator told me. I should have just bought the premade wheel. I wasted hundreds of dollars on all the tools for building wheels. The one main thing, the machine for making your own spokes, $10,000.. I can't keep wasting time waiting for more spokes and hoping this time they are the correct size. I was able to do a single cross on my hub motors and those came out perfect every time. It's every time I try a 3 cross the spokes won't fit.. I just don't understand what I'm missing, or is doing a 3 cross on the rim I'm using not possible?
Thanks for the thorough explanation. I’ve done motorcycles rims for 15 years or so and learned; to center the hub just flip your wheel in the stand making the dish tool superfluous. Am I missing something?
So tighten one side and loosen the other side? I tried doing that (before I come across to your video) on one of the rims and I accidentally broke a spoke!😠 Now some are really tight, and some are slightly tight. My other rim will take a lot longer to do. And no I don't own a wheel truning stand.😞
you have to make sure to tighten and loosen in really small increments, half a turn at most. This will prevent you from over truing as well as over tightening. A truing stand really makes it easier but if you can properly position a zip tie on your forks or chain stay, it works pretty well.

I have the book "The bicycle Wheel" and it sucks in a way this vid is far better.

Best presention, instruction, I have seen yet. Thank you.
Thanks for the tutorial and in-depth steps and why you do them!

Really enjoyed the demystification of wheel building. Thanks so much!

Best video so far I found on all of RUclips about the task of truing a 36 "spoker"! Thank you
Thank you very much Chris for posting the helpful video..

Man, I wish more videos on RUclips were so clear. Perfect.
Very detailed instruction. Thanks for taking the time to show us how to build a wheel. Now I can't wait to try it myself.
This information is absolutely invaluable! Thank you so much.

Good informative video. Thanks.
Thank you Chris! Very well explained and demonstrated, So far I have built 3 wheels and rebuilt two with your videos..
Wow! I heard it wasn't easy to build a wheel. Now I see why. Thanks for the lesson! 😊

thanks again
Great Tutorial!! Thank you for doing that! I feel confident I can do this now!
Awesome job just built my first wheel using your video and the wheel is working great.
Excellent video Chris, thank you.
Good one useful
This is the most beautiful wheel I have ever seen
Good job, very thorough.
Choose your vids to do this , loved the flow. Made it so easy to do. Made my own nipple driver from an old screw driver (plus a file and dremel) :)
You made my first build easy squeazy! Thanks

Wow! You are the man. Your tutorial is way better than the DT Swiss one. Thanks a lot.
How do you prepare the spoke threads before lacing?
Excellent video . Thank you
Thanks you are FIRST to say you only need One side for Truing I Thought So again Thanks
I just built my first wheel. Thanks!

bravo best how to video I have seen!!!!!!!!!
it's meditative just watching this...
Chris, where'd you go?
Thanks so much for the detailed explanation.

Great. I hope will come next stages.
just subscribed!!!!!!
Muchas gracias por el video y muy bien esplicado,ok
why shouldn''t the spokes all be exactly the same tension and be true? imprefections in the spokes? or imperfections in the rim? Both? why?
Thanks for the thorough explanation. I’ve done motorcycles rims for 15 years or so and learned; to center the hub just flip your wheel in the stand making the dish tool superfluous. Am I missing something?
What spoke lengths did you use
Are you sure you aren't Patrick Stewart's son?
now I see why they came out with mag wheels
What number should the spoke be at on the meter?😕
So tighten one side and loosen the other side?
I tried doing that (before I come across to your video) on one of the rims and I accidentally broke a spoke!😠

Thank you, I saved on repairing my wheel during a trip through Peru. (RUclips: Cycling South America Stan Jaslo)
very very useful, tks
nice
Lyric octopusian handy hands good and happy performance.
Thanks bro
All you need is not what you promote it's just the cheapest spoke wrench and wheel in bike frame and a little intelligence and patience
